Carrotfags were fullforce during the first act but they've quieted down since she went back to background character. Tokofags filled that space, but they're pretty based so no complaints.

Personally, the only game I gave two shits about was the Groggy Ring, even though the boxing match had some good gags in it. I still liked it better than the more transitional arcs because it actually had some creative elements to it, but I just didn't think it was as solid as any of the good + arcs. I'll eventually get around to rereading the series (probably when it's done) and maybe I'll have a higher opinion of it, but it just didn't wow me enough.

So the fight is even from Katakuri's injury.

From a standpoint where they are fighting on completely even ground, with all the power they have left available to them, Brulee's involvement does not matter. while Brulee was necesarry for Luffy to achieve a haki powerup, this is actually irrelevent to the argument whether or not Luffy could beat Kata in an even fight, because we are shown an even fight after Katakuri injures himself and Luffy goes Snake Man. Katakuri expedites the progression of the fight back to even ground after Flampe.

Flampe didn't shoot Luffy until right before Kata stabbed him. Katakuri noticed at that moment that Luffy wasn't moving as well as he was before and got frustrated. Luffy was fine until that moment.

This new interpretation of Katakuri stabbing himself worse than Luffy is interesting. There doesn't seem to be any weight to it, but it's still cool that new angles are being brought to this fight.

Why do you think it would ruin it? I never realized the aspect of Usopp being tested differently each time but prolonged punishment would definitely be a new way of testing his bravado.

Also I noticed that Oda spent nearly half a page for the torture setup. If it was a small-time gag it'd be never be given that much focus.

If it happened beforehand, or at the start which is what I assume you're implying, he would've noticed then as well. In her introductory chapter (891), Flampe's henchmen were trying to shoot at Luffy but he was too fast. So, they missed every shot

This was the exact moment Flampe got involved. And no, Luffy never actually got hit by any of her darts. But because Luffy did dodge them, he did get stabbed really badly, which I didn't remember at all.
So yeah, I guess Kata's self-inflicted injury really did put them back as even as possible.

It's somewhat refreshing, actually to see an even fight between an MC in a shonen and the villain end with the MC singlehandedy beating the villain toe to toe, without any bullshit after the fight becomes even. Too often in these series do fights only get one because of some happenstance

The fact that by the end of the fight, Katakuri is proud of Luffy and acknowledges the strength of his ambition is really cool. It's so refreshing to see a major antagonist be proud of Luffy at the end instead of holding some kind of animosity like most others have. From how he was in the beginning, to who he is now, it's amazing how much character growth Katakuri ended up getting. And he has Luffy to thank for that

The title of 888 doesn't mention the Reverie starting at all, which with general 1 chapter per two episodes (aside of one pretty much full recap and one full chapter-to-episode transition) makes me think that Kuma parts of the episode will be separated to create 888 with 889 being the ending.

It literally wasn't single combat. There's no going around it, you might believe Luffy would win against Katakuri fair and square in one-on-one, but in story he simply didn't.

"Sanji sacrifices himself and stays behind with BM" was generally surprisingly common theory back in the day. Of course people expected it to happen during the fight at sea, but the crux of Sanji being in BM's custody and his second flashback was spot on.

If you're going to slice the fight, then yeah, from that point on it's a single combat. Just like Luffy vs Dofla or Luffy vs Moria has a point at which people stop interfering. But I don't think slicing it like that is reasonable. The fight started back on the Sunny.

When Queen's bounty is introduced he wants you to go "OMG he's stronger than Katakuri!!!". Now this does not necessarily have to be proven true. But that's what Oda wants you to think, and therefore is a legit argument.

I still feel like bounties are more an indicator of 'danger level' rather than just power level, since people with high bounties are not only more likely to be hugely strong, but also to be going around actively fucking shit up. And that's sort of the purpose of bounties in the first place, isn't it? Bigger number = this guy is really dangerous, we want him brought in ASAP. One Piece just takes that to ridiculous extremes now with them being in the billions.

Your bounty is how much cool stuff you’ve done, how ballsy you are, it’s worn like a merit badge by Luffy and Perospero. Bounty is bragging rights for a pirate, it represents how prolific a nuisance you are.
Blackbeard was stronger than Katakuri before he had a devil fruit, and especially after he got Yami Yami, yet his bounty was zero. He had no bragging rights on purpose, the opposite of Luffy who enthusiastically loves seeing his bounty raise.
Since this is the case, if you have a super high bounty, most likely you are really tough, though it’s not guaranteed.
