The anime is slowing it down a lot actually, possibly to a fault. the Swamp Demon arc shouldn't have taken more than an episode, maybe half an episode if UFO wanted to be brief, but it was stretched out to 1.5.

I actually really liked Muzan's voice, too bad we'll never hear it again this season after next episode. It was a pretty good episode overall but I must admit I'm having the same feelings as I do with the manga where I just want to skip ahead to when he has companions to talk to. I think the filler with the city kinda went overboard. No way Tanjiro's later stupidity over the train and other general things makes as much sense when we know he's seen the modern world.

I think it's a double issue of doing shounenshit the old-fashioned way while also doing better-quality 2cour show instead of 900-ep Toei shit. Goku didn't meet Vegeta or Trunks until waaaay late in the series, and even then he didn't meet Yamcha or Krillin until further in than we've gotten with KnY. I imagine the pig guy and blond kid will show up eventually, and I agree it's weird the OP and ED show them off so much, but we can assume the source manga will aim for at least a few dozen volumes, meaning we've not yet reached what the status quo -will- be.

Since episode 2 the anime is adapting two manga chapters per episode, if this kept going for 26 episodes only 51 manga chapters would be adapted but in the opening there is a scene of chapter 53 of the manga, I think that by episode 11 or 12 the anime will start to adapt three manga chapters per episode.

Its early 1900s Japan, they don't have a ton of cities. Additionally, the demon hunters are not a super large scale organization and are not recognized by the government. As such once they complete training they are expected to be able to act on their own independantly without major support. Most of the hunters also have some skill similar to tanjiro's sense of smell that makes finding demons. And the test is so brutal because that's the average they can expect to face out in the field. If they made the test easier they'd just have a bunch of scrubs getting slaughtered while on an actual assignment that they would have to devote more hunters to completing. The arms demon wasn't even actually that strong. Wait until you see the upcoming fake lower moons which aren't anywhere close to the upper tiers of demons.

Daki/Gyuutarou and Douma are the best of the 12 demon moon designs. They're really nice. The others range from pretty good to kinda bad.

Bullets rarely decapitate people. Also the only thing capable of killing demons is a rare and special iron that slowly absorbs sunlight, you can't equip an entire hunting corps with bullets made of that. Breaths are also far superior to guns and only a scrub that can't use breaths and has to eat demons to steal their strength uses them.

All the designs are god tier imo. Even Gyokko who is the worst is at least so original.

I don't mean a couple pages. I mean an actual past flashback arc. The series has never done that. It does flashbacks to establish characters or to send them off. The only characters who could have flashbacks to Sun user are Kokushibou and Muzan. There's basically no narrative reason to ever get a Muzan flashback to that time because we got all we need. For Kokushibou there's a chance but if it's the usual flashback after he dies thing, it obviously won't be that long. If instead he gets a flashback as he's introduced and it turns into an arc, that would be more interesting. There's also the possibility we get a past arc even though no character is actively seeing what we see (which is probably best, but it would have to be inserted at an appropriate time and this series doesn't slow down enough for one of those times). I guess the best bet is after this arc is over then Tanjiro reads whatever Senjuro sent him and that triggers a flashback arc.

Muzan is very smart but he's extraordinarily paranoid and extremely moody. He literally rolls up an entire mook division in an angry outburst because he's so disgusted with how ineffective they've been.

There's someone who fights with a shotgun loaded with nichirin iron buckshot later on in addition to a sword. It works pretty well but you have to absolutely nail a point-blank headshot to kill high-level demons with it, so it's generally used to stun/zone them.

I loved that as an establishing moment for Muzan. The heroes just took down a lower moon and you think they're going to progress through them normally, then Muzan just slaughters them. Afterwards you get train games followed by Akaza, for a direct comparison of just how big the gap between a lower and upper moon is. Yeah bad guys kill subordinates all the time but there's an extra flare of hopelessness when we see Muzan can read their minds.

The problem is this was badass for a moment but it totally fucked up the power scaling in the long term and it's why after Gyu we had the exact same situation of Muzan calling a meeting and establishing the last guy was a joke and then it turns out no, all the other Upper Moons were his level and lower and all of them lost from being idiots or weak-willed.

The thing is that Muzan wasn't even wrong. Except for the one that was batshit insane, the lower moons were all afraid of the slayers now and with the Tanjirou crew getting strong enough to start cleaning them up they were useless.

So it was a perfect moment to let Muzan be terrifying, but also cut out the chaff.

I'm assuming the rumors of demons he was sent to investigate were ball girl and arrow guy, my best guess is that they were probably fairly recently turned and Muzan was seeing if they had any potential, so they were feeding a lot. I can't imagine Muzan himself tripped up enough to get any rumors going

He heard from the other demon hunters that Muzan is the person who makes demons, and someone attacked his family and made his sister a demon. It's logical that if he recognizes the scent that was at his old house, it's Muzan.

I don't think they considered him a joke. They just said that his sister held him back.

I mean it's incredibly contrived but it's not an asspull. It was just a way to show the series had an antagonist to avoid cancellation. Since Tanjiro kills every arc antagonist, it was probably the only way to introduce the boss and justify an explanation of how the demons are ranked without another bland infodump. The arc established that he no longer has to ask every demon about how to beat Muzan he just gets to keep killing higher and higher tier demons and harvesting their blood.

They established he lost because he made dumb mistakes by being led by his emotions but otherwise he would have won. They present it as the exception but it turns out this how literally all six of the people in that conversation lost.

To put it in a non-demonic situation, that's like some detective trying to find some Yakuza boss, leader of a 1000-men gang, then he finds someone with Yakuza tats on the street, think it's the Yakuza Boss because he looks like a tough guy, and by pure chance, it actually IS the Yakuza boss, and not one of his 1000 gang members who would have the same tats, to his eyes anyway.

His power-up was actually an asspull mid-fight. They make the mention that he awakened that power precisely because he was in a pinch. It's like a reverse shonen trope.

Akaza is exactly the same, he lost due to sentimentality. He should have easily killed them both. Hantengu is more debatable, he was definitely a slave to his emotions since that was his entire gimmick but from the outside looking in it seems obvious he lost by taking too long to power-up. He was clearly overpowered and technically only died because he wasted too much energy and time.

Also, I feel like a lot of characters became less interesting and nuanced over the series. They just started acting like archetypes and cliches, and going into this latest arc it's been tiring to see them vanish without doing anything interesting.

Yeah, I’m hoping that this isn’t the last arc as up to this point I’ve not really been super satisfied by the amount all the side characters have been fleshed out. Like, as you said, even Zeni and Pig’s characters as they stand just don’t sit well with me yet. I feel like everything needs to be fleshed out further before it all ends, historical and character and world building aspects included. I really don’t think this is the end though, I think at least Muzan and Kokushibou will escape and the pillars left standing will have to train to develop their marks, we’ll get some more character building moments and diving into Tanjirou’s and the sun pillar’s backstories, and then once everyone is ready they’ll somehow find their way to Muzan once again. What I’m really not sure of is whether or not Douma will die here though, but I’m thinking and hoping that he won’t as it would be kind of stupid since this is the first time we see him fighting, and I’d like to know more about him and what he was like as a human, but I feel like if Wani just dumped all of his info in one fight it would feel stifling. I’m really curious to see where this goes in general and I truthfully don’t know what to expect in the end.

It depends on how the story handles it.
If this isnt the end wither Muzan survives and this becomes Inuyasha 2.0 or he dies and a new big bad appears.
There is also the possibility that the demons will end after thsi arc and after a timeskip of quite a bit of years tanjirous kid will be trained by his father and will be forced to fight evil demon slayers now.

It's not over. The main characters need to become pillars. If Muzan dies then there won't be a need for that. Alternatively, Muzan could die or turn human, but there might be some other caveat to turning everyone else back into a human. UM1 could end up surpassing Muzan. There's still a lot to cover about the breath of the sun. It's doubtful that UM4, 2, 1, Muzan, and a few other pillars will all be getting development this arc.

Oh god, no. No one is evolving/transforming some trite shit like that. This is a shonen, but this isn't one of the grade school tier power level trips.
Tanjirou is not becoming a "dancing flaming god." He's reconstructing the BotS even if not on purpose.
He's pruning what doesn't fit physical aptitude and leaning into what does.
Zenitsu was also doing the same when he developed his original technique. The naming scheme was just in honor of his friend's influence on its development if anything.
So don't go expecting them to start adding an endless series a bunch of unnecessary adjectives to their breaths/forms or go picking up some dumb chunni titles for themselves

The more I think about it, the more I compare KnY to Busou Renkin. They have some similar plot elements and they're both kind of in that middle tier of not being great or bad shounen, just average overall after a great introduction/first half.

Things I would've done to make KnY more popular/unpredictable/last longer:
>Have an arc about a speedy demon from the Edo period being confronted with a modern 1914 car.
>Dress everyone up in Taisho-era Western clothing occasionally so they could infiltrate the big cities better and so they don't just look the same every arc.
>More chapters of Shinobu, Kanao, Aoi, and Mitsuri babying and/or lusting for Tanjirou and causing him to nosebleed like in ch 101.
>More minor demon short arcs, especially ones that don't feature Tanjirou but other junior demon hunters.
>More of Tanjirou hunting for demon blood for the demon doctor and her nurse.
>Inosuke fighting on a set of biplanes in order to take down a flying demon, like a flying circus act.
>Lengthen the training chapters into mini-arcs instead of just montage panels, like when the 7th Lightning form is developed.
>More guns.
>Someone bringing a Maxim gun or a Type 3 HMG to a demon fight.
>Kanao using the sense of taste instead of sight to battle, befitting someone succeeding Shinobu who is a master of poisons and medicine.
>Kanao being recruited for the red light district mission and using poisons and antidotes during the battle.
>Zenitsu fighting a demon on a sinking cruise ship and not being able to get a solid footing to use his Lightning style.
>Nezuko versus a horde of cat demons.
