the pacing this ep actually almost met my expectation I was hoping for it to end at Tamayo using the blood illusion technique.

I don't like that they left Muzan's eyes as demonic as they did, but it works I suppose, since you wouldn't expect him to accidentally switch to full demonic if he had his eyes as unassuming usually.
Also didn't like the infecting slash, but what can you do. Maybe I just don't like the director's style.

Technically that person got it wrong because at the current pace spider arc would end with 22. Pillar meeting would be 23 and most of 24 and recovery would be the rest of 24 through 26. The thing is they will probably pick up the pace somewhere in a fight arc or something because the recovery arc would end on Episode 27 and I don't think they'll end just before finishing that. It's just weird because they are maintaining the manga pace for all the establishing stuff that is hit-or-miss but then will speed it up for the fan-favorite stuff? Seems a bit weird. I think it's totally possible they only speed up the pace enough to fit one more chapter (Chapter 53) and then end it there though they could also insert Chapter 54 so the season ends on a menacing cliffhanger.

This series has very slow pacing. I mean It's almost 10 episodes now and the MC still hasn't met his two other nakama. Well, he technically met Zenitsu, but didn't interact with him. With this pacing they will meet Inouske by the 20th episode and that's too fucking long for a 25 episodes season. All this useless interactions with literal whos could be allowed only in old shounen series which had more than 300 episodes. Here it looks like filler already.

That reminds me. Do we have any evidence that Muzan doesn't have multiple bodies? We see him in a few disguises, some of which seem to have been relatively long term. Granted his abilities seem sufficient to let him quickly impersonate someone and take over their life but I don't think we've seen him enter or exit one of these disguises. Meanwhile demons as low as the swamp demon can split themselves up into multiple instances, and one of the Upper Moons did a much more advanced version of it. So it should technically be possible for Muzan as well.

Big theory is that it wasn't Muzan, but one of Muzan's strongest underlings. The stronger a demon you are, the more your scent resembles Muzan's.

the “brainwashing” had very little to do with her not attacking humans. she’s always somewhat retained her humanity which was left over from before she turned, since she’s half demon/human. besides, she’s still unpredictable and tanjirou can’t be sure whether something drastic might happen in the future despite her keeping her morals as a person and her compassion for human beings.

The problem is the manga isn't historically accurate. The anime is trying to be more accurate than the manga. Even the Tomioka Gaiden showed that people had hunting rifles. Realistically Tanjiro's dad would have had one to protect the family but I don't think Wani really thought through the time period early on and was more concerned with not getting cancelled.

Because it's a plot point. She has tons of other things that make her different from demons (including those that make her way too powerful), it's not like being dumb is the only thing. I think it's obvious that if she gained her brain back it would no longer make sense to want to turn her back into a human so badly because she'd be better off as a demon and then it would just become another shitty shonen. Also, it would have really changed the tone if she as a character had vivid memories of her family getting killed, she'd have a totally different personality.

If done right I think introducing a villain early is good. It's kinda cheesy like a tournament when the main baddy doesn't appear till the end. It was nice for MC to see his ultimate goal, an extent of some of his powers, and the circumstances that surround him. Done very well

There's absolutely nothing wrong with introducing the villain early. The issue is the way he was introduced was so contrived and typical of Jump manga that are rushed early on. The manga will probably never rationalize it and other early stuff that has since been confirmed untrue. We'll probably never find out who those people with him were, it will never be explained how Muzan was unable to hide his scent even though Tamayo can hide herself from him and Hantengu couldn't be sensed by anyone. It was clearly a mistake to imply he killed Tanjiro's family because if that actually turns out to be true, the series will have to bend over backwards to justify such a bizarre scenario that is completely out of character. It's never explained how he could snap his fingers and have scrub demons as bodyguards working for him, we know he hates demons, it has never been again implied he does this. He barely respects or acknowledges the Moons, why would he power-up these other random losers. The manga also implied way too strongly that he specifically creates every demon when that obviously could never be the case and it turns out it wasn't. Basically, the whole scenario where we met him will eventually all be retconned away or never justified at all. The idea that a demon nobody alive knew the appearance of except other powerful demons (who also are unknown to everyone alive) could be caught randomly walking down the street of a big city by the protagonist is so fucking ridiculous. It would have been better if he walked by Tanjiro and we knew who he was but Tanjiro never noticed him and then he just sent someone after Tanjiro because he saw the earrings and got mad (as he's prone to do).

Keep in mind the next times Muzan came into the story it was quite a while later as a woman killing the Lower Moons and then as a boy talking to Akaza. I don't even think we saw his Michael Jackson form again until Daki. He was clearly not defined when we first saw him.

It set up a plot thread between Tanjiro's ancestors and Muzan with the earrings, it established that Muzan is a coward who hates taking any risks, and his human persona added some mystery to it all. Gator was winging it but it worked out fine.

Dude, we see in this very episode that he personally created the incel demon. The reality is that he doesn't know which demons will turn out to be strong enough to rise through the ranks until he makes them and sets them loose. Most die, but the strong ones survive.

Tanjiro's sense of smell gave him an edge when he was weak. Pillar-tier hunters could have sensed Muzan without magical smell powers and all the other exam kids have a special sense too. They have been hunting him for many generations. Clearly it doesn't make sense Muzan can be so easily sensed.

I agree that Muzan will use demons, I'm not arguing with him using them, I'm pointing out that he wouldn't have them waiting at his beck and call. Unless they were magically teleported in through Nakime, it seems completely impractical they were waiting in the shadows to serve him. It makes him seem like a high-profile gangster who is constantly under watch by his incognito servants waiting for an order when every later appearance has shown he's not like that at all. His own Moons couldn't recognize him and he goes a hundred years without gathering them.

Since we know he has other forms and lives, if those people weren't important there's no reason he couldn't just kill everyone on the entire street and disappear. But serialization causes problems, especially in such a competitive weekly magazine like Jump where every author is worried they will get cancelled. My problem is people rebranding obvious errors that Wani herself would want to fix if she could with the idea it was all genius-level writing that is beyond our understanding.

The only other shounen lately to get movies that wasn't one of the big ones was MHA so I can't really see that happening with Kimetsu. Movies are also just really expensive ads for the manga just like anime is and considering how Kimetsu could be wrapping up within a year, I don't know if they would even want to

Why is Muzan so incompetent?

I am not saying there couldn't be an explanation for the family, but clearly we should get one and I don't think we ever will because Wani probably doesn't know herself. The scene seemed way too much like it was going in a secret mob boss direction and then it turned out that's not how he operates at all. We have zero evidence he couldn't discard this form, there's zero explanation for what was special about keeping this family. He's hundreds of years old, clearly he cycles through families all the time and is unaffected.

The whole set-up of the manga is neither side is able to detect the other and that is why they have to randomly bump into one another. There's tons of plot-holes in regard to this but leaving those aside, it clearly is out of Muzan's interest to be sensed. If somebody not as dumb as Tanjiro sensed him, they would report it and investigate further like with what they ended up doing to Daki. His cover would be blown.

The clear end goal was established even without him meeting Tanjiro, we already knew the goal was to kill Muzan. Actually meeting caused a weird character interaction and didn't add any real end goal that wasn't already there. Tamayo established the actual goal after the arc of killing Moons to get their blood. So, the arc actually CHANGED the focus from Muzan into something much more natural that could allow the manga to run a few more years. A perfect example of what everyone is talking about when they say the manga went from looking like it was getting cancelled to getting the greenlight with that arc.

I'm not saying he doesn't make demons but I am saying the manga recognized this didn't make sense which is why it started introducing the idea Moons make demons later on. Though the thing that is constantly being avoided is my point about the bodyguard demons he summons. That is what's so bizarre. It would be different if he had created two demons in the alley or just sent a psychic message to all demons in the vicinity.
