Chapter 31: Triceratops Fist
I want you to know that i am shitting myself as i saw that you graced us once again with Baki glory but i have a policy that i don't take smart devices to the shitter anymore since i had a hemorroid and the surgery while reasonably expensive was ultimately avoidable.
So even if the thread ends up dying before i return once thing should be made clear, you have my gratitude!
End chapter.
And this.
Credit given where credit's Stew.
Itagaki sez:
>I debuted just at the end of Shouwa. So, I was a pro for the entire Heisei era. (distant look...)
End transmission.
thanks translator-kun and stew
Thanks
Im predicting baki does a head first spear tackle into sukunes crotch breaking his pelvis and killing the fatty.
but then who would sumo
Where's the demon backs mouth? I've only ever been able to see the eyes.
I've always understood it as being the latissimus dorsi and down to the waist. The nose comes off poorly here, but it's supposed to be shaped by the bottom of the trapezius.
Sumoman will use METEOR CHARGE
but does he even know what meteors are? I bet if he saw one, he'd give us some weird speech about how it's some shinto god
nah, but I called it last week; he's gonna do the stupid horn fighting thing and then give us a[n alternative] history lesson about it
>Over 6,000 years ago, the earliest Chinese term for wrestling, "jǐao dǐ" (角抵, horn butting), refers to an ancient style of military Kung-Fu in which soldiers wore horned headgear with which they attempted to butt, throw and defeat their enemies. Ancient Chinese imperial records state that "jiao di" was used in 2697 BC by the soldiers of a rebel army led by Chiyou against the Yellow Emperor's army.[1] In later times, young people would play a similar game, emulating the contests of domestic cattle, without the headgear. Jiao di has been described as an originating source of wrestling and latter forms of martial arts in China.[2]
>"Jiao li" (角力) was first referenced in the Classic of Rites[3] during the Zhou Dynasty. Jiao li supplemented throwing techniques with strikes, blocks, joint locks and attacks on pressure points.[1] These exercises were practiced in the winter by soldiers who also practiced archery and studied military strategy.[4]
"角力" is the archaic spelling of "sumo". Itagaki's going to conflate 角力 with 角抵 in a historical context, and use that to explain why all the Nomi no Sukunes have learned how to fight horned beasts across 2,000 years.
RIP Baki
Jurassic World got weirder
Is Baki beyblade for bigger autits?
DOPPO BEST BAKI
Only if they reveal a hanma ancestor parted the red sea.
so how does dragon style kung-fu actually work?
where the fuck is my boy jack
Death by roid overdose, so sad...
NOT
absent cause we cant have a filthy gaijin stealing the spotlight.
ah! so they approximated what a dragon would be like an called the resulting style as such.
basically yea,how did you think they did it?
if sukune kills him so itagaki can get rid of all gaijins i'll finally drop this
I was thinking the same, that's basicaly the squad that ran a train on Ali Jr but with Doppo's son instead of /OurGuy/
in the gym
wonder how that brainstorming session went down. did they seek out to make a dragon style kung fu or just stumbled upon it by accident?
>brother li is spazzing out again
>but brother, when you look at it closely it seems to resemble a dragon.
>dragon style was born.
fuck sumo
jack,oliva, and yuichiro >>>>>>>>>>>>doppo
so yuichiro never cared about doppo getting a hit in right?
yuichiro could have raped that bald little fagget if he wanted to but doppo didnt shower that day so he want interested in a smelly bald midget.
fuck you sukune-kun is here to save us
no. fuck that fat cunt. i wish pickle bent him over and raped him until he died.
Were is Retsu?
i have some bad news for ya...
Sukune's the only antagonist to have something of a goal that's not personal right? what's the point of restoring sumo to prominence if he'll just lord it over (people will get tired of an unbeatable champion eventually)
Maybe he just wants to be the best at something, and sumo is the only thing he's good at
either way, after this, the main bout will determine who's going to lead the sumo association right? wonder who will be Sukune's actual opponent will be?
>why didn't chinese martial artists not learn from dinosaurs
Because they didn't know they existed, you dumb fuck
nah, they just called it dragon style because it makes it sound like i's the most powerful
>bro, the bear fatties and crane faggots are laughing at our school of the kitten fist again
>oh yeah? they won't laugh anymore when we re open as the MIGHTY DRAGON school
Thats a big pig
that's actually pretty small for a boar
But they knew that dragons existed.
I hate these chapters where Itagaki spends 3/4ths of it explaining something either really obvious or already known the audience
Was expecting Haneyama to have an eye patch
The priest said that the original sukune descended from the afterlife because they didn't respect the origins, but that could be simply his narrative.
>school of the kitten fist
is that a ranma 1/2 reference?
>I hate these chapters where Itagaki spends 3/4ths of it explaining something either really obvious or already known the audience
they are amazing pleb filters. the chapter where Sukune braided his hair was one of the best he ever made.
maybe you should stick with One Piece.
>the chapter where Sukune braided his hair was one of the best he ever made.
I didn't mind that one as much, also it was a nice reference to Make Upper
We literally did not need an explanation of Baki's Triceratops Fist again, anyone who still reads the series at this point knows what it is
Isn't it supposed to be a new set of muscles evolved for fighting that normal humans didn't possess?
Not really. The face is described as the muscle form made by his "hitting muscles", which are developed to an abnormal extent.
i wonder what stand sukune will conjure up
Is it me or the double chins are gone?
His flab will open up to reveal his psychoframe so he can use his hyper mode with the help of getter rays
If you can take The Geek that easily, you can take Kakuryuu on even ground. Tochi is so gonna challenge the Kak for yuushou - and restore his rank along the way.
good
we have the motherfucker with one arm present, but the final boss of the first series doesn't show up? why does itagaki hate jack so much?
when did itigaki get super nationalistic in the story? we used to have non japanese fighters all the time, now hes getting rid of all of them and only having japs be important now. what caused this change?
never happened, shut the fuck up
>168x299
>tries to make a point
Thx!
>>I hate these chapters where Itagaki spends 3/4ths of it explaining something either really obvious or already known the audience
Itagaki's been doing this for years. The story behind Hanayama's tattoo is pretty much Baki-verse's Uncle Ben. You might as well admit you're unable to leave no matter how many times he throws this shit thing at you
Hey user, 2008 called, you need to go back.
where is he? how long as it been since we've seen him?
>allowing your opponent to enforce their imagination on you
He's already lost a third time and doesn't realize it yet.
>You might as well admit you're unable to leave
No shit, there isn't anything else that scratches the same itch this series does and inbetween the crappy chapters like this there is enjoyable stuff to be found
at least in this arc, it has a defined purpose ("make sumo great again") musashi was just 'wtf?!'
Thank you both for the dump as always.
I hope there will be arc for him.
That honestly isn't that much greater of a feat than Yujiro's Earthquake punch
>Sukune basically toyed with Olivia
>Ohma basically toying with Sukune
I know Ohma > Olivia but I don't like how this is implying that the gap between the two is this stupidly huge to be honest
>Ohma
He's sleeping bro, did you mean Baki?
based Jack
They're interchangeable really.
Not even vaguely.
There are no sad endings in Baki
Also why are two Russians under a Kotatsu? Did Sikorsky fucking bring one back with him?
It's Garland and Sikorsky at Garland's house. They're in the kotatsu to stay warm; Sikorsky is declaring his defeat. You know, the 'defeated by the kotatsu' thing.
Please let all of them teach Sukune that his Sumo isn't ready or it's imperfect like they did with Ali Jr
Defeated by...a Kotatsu???
You get the idea.
But the point of Ali Jr's style was that it was perfect, he just sucks.
My one armed karate boy is gonna finally shine by beating the shit out of a barrel of lard
Then I hope sukune style is perfect and he just ends up sucking
>What's the best counter to Sumo?
I'm in the middle of reading new grappler baki, and holy fuck when did his face turned into that insect like shit?
Recently.
Weirdly enough I think it's unique to Baki dou 2018
Not Memetobe
He lost the first round of the maximum tornument to a Sumo guy
Then Igari beat Sumo
>He's in the cloning tank
This stance was always way too deep
>What's the best counter to Sumo?
IRL?Almost anything much anything, In early UFC when things were pretty much style vs style Sumo wrestler had terrible performances. Sentoryu Henri, Baruto Kaito, Keith Hackney, Kazuki Nojiri, Kosaku Shikimasu, and so long, all of them were sumo wrestlers who tried to fight other styles in MMA, and most of them have more loses than wins
Westerns...
>Almost anything much anything
I fucked up, but I think you got it
>I hate these chapters where Itagaki spends 3/4ths of it explaining something either really obvious or already known the audience
I love it, I had to skip all the untranslated chapters, but nothing was lost, because Itagaki loves to repeat itself like it is something new. But yeah, I guess this would suck for people who read everything
Takayasu why did you have to pick this yusho to suck REEEEEEEE
>... sumo wrestlers who tried to fight other styles in MMA
crux of the failure of this argument
Did Itagaki forget about that Mongolian boxer from the Maximum Tournament arc that Baki befriended?
Yeah, being morbdly obese and practcing a martial art that have no punches, no kicks, no locks, no chokes and limited throws puts you in a disadvantage against fit opponents who can actually fight. Shocking.
What are you planning to prove with this video? That fight was failure of planning. Ali though it was going to be a exibition match, Inoki was going for a real fight, then they imposed a shitload of rules that prevented Inoki from grapling or kicking unless he had one knee on the ground, so Ali could have a chance, of surviving. The result was that ungly ass "fight" you posted that almost ended Ali's career because of the low kicks he had no idea of how to defend.
Crossing fighting styles doesn't work.
Ali had many ways to attack Inoki, but no way to do so in the ways with which he was thoroughly accustomed. Then, how can a rikishi be expected to perform any better in comparable circumstances?
>Ali though it was going to be a exhibition match
hearsay from cornermen, unrelated journalists etc, who are notorious for lying after events have transpired
for a bright example, see: ali vs liston '64, after which one of liston's cornermen verifiably lied in an interview about his shoulder injury for no discernible reason
also, the wikipedia source which makes the claim about ali being oh-so-naive actually states the following:
>The story of exactly how Ali came to be in that ring, underneath Antonio Inoki's spandex-clad ass, is tough to untangle. It's only 30 years on and the facts are already a mess, recounted by a disparate set of narrators, each as unreliable as the other.
If I had a Wikipedia account, I would mark it with a "This article has multiple issues."
Oh yeah the guy who defeated a pack of wolves and was there when Bakis mother died
He was great should've made a cameo during Retsu boxing phase
Different fighting styles going against each other do work, MMA is probably the most popular combat sport these days afther boxing and that's how it started. If you want to prove it doesn't Ali vs Inoki is poor exemple to make this point, it's biggest issue was that both parties involved were completely oblivious to what the other wanted the match to be, not the idea of putting different fighters against each other.
>Honabru Mongol
Vs
>Good natured Yakuza
How the fuck did she get to America? Does she get all the connections Baki gets for being his girl?
Mma tournaments aren't even mixed martial arts they all grappler wrestler types
because that's what works the best
>My boyfriend could walk into the white House and bitch slap the president with zero consequence.
Free first class plane tickets please!
You're misunderstanding. I'm saying that you can't give a rikishi 3 months of UFC training and expect high-tier professional results. You can't give a UFC fighter 3 months of sumo training and expect high-tier professional results. Ali vs Inoki saw the pair learn a very particular, theretofore unprecedented style of sport combat in a very brief period of time. The conditions for both fighters can be compared to those of a martial artist transitioning to another sport. Both produced an awkward and untoward showing independent of the other despite having been and being consummate experts in martial arts from which the new 'style' was created. MMA and sumo do not derive from one another anything nor do they share much. Then, it should be expected that anyone making a transition in either direction would perform even worse than did Inoki or Ali, independently, relative to their change of performance.
Would be better if they got rid of weight classes and made it all vale tudo
>they all grappler wrestler types
Most of the current champions have striking arts as their base style
Nah there's plenty of Muay Thai and Kickboxing in there
>My future father-in-law would probably bitch slap everyone in Texas if I asked him nicely
How would Tanba fare in the Maximum Tournament?
>I'm saying that you can't give a rikishi 3 months of UFC training and expect high-tier professional results.
I agree with everything you said, but I need to remind you of why I started this whole thing, This user asked what would work against sumo and I replied with a real life counterpart of what did work against sumo
>MMA and sumo do not derive from one another anything nor do they share much. Then, it should be expected that anyone making a transition in either direction would perform even worse than did Inoki or Ali, independently, relative to their change of performance
Another important thing to take a note on is that MMA isn't even a style itself, is a ruleset, specially in the eartly days when people didn't knew what would work it, that allowed all fighters to use what they knwow, be it striking, slams, grappling or whatever. The fighters who beat the sumo wresters I named a few posts ago had not much experience in MMA either, they were, karete fighers, boxers, greco-roman wrestlers and so one, that style of competition was created so they coul put their styles against each other. You have your mind in moder MMA, todays fighters know what they need to know of boxing, muay thai, BJJ and so long, that wasn't the case for the old school fighters who sought and beat those sumo wrestlers
>My boyfriend could walk into the white House and bitch slap the president with zero consequence
Yujiro was defeated in the first manga by a net and a few men armed with tranquilizer guns, the US president can get some of these
You think that would work on current Yujiro!?
I dunno, I'm still on ne grappler baki. Did he learn a kamehameha or somthing? How can he even improve since then if nothing is a challenge to him?
Oh shit sorry man
Yojiro has gradually become more and more absurdly powerful
Nah not well
Tanba is too human even for the maximum tornument arc
In that same manga he stopped an Earthquake with a punch.
And after being caught by said tranqs and net he then punched off the steel door containing him.
not a chance
You sure about that?
Tanba vs Doppo - lose
Retsu - lose
Baki - lose
Shibukawa - lose
Igari - win?
Jack - LOSE
Yujiro - win
In volume 5 of Grappler Baki, Baki tells everyone that Yuujiro is in a perpetual state of growth in terms of fighting ability.
Itagaki went out of his way to make ambiguous the circumstances of the earthquake's having stopped. He focused the message of that moment to concern Yuujiro's self-confidence rather than his strength.
Honestly think the power levels are spiralling out of control now, I get that it's sorta supposed to be that way but it limits what Itagaki can convincingly do with the main cast
want an arc where Katsumi enters a Maximum Tournament-style event or something, he's been training his one-armed karate for ages now
I think that's why people hate Sukune so much Powerful outta nowhere
great idea i'd love to see katsumi get some shine
He still hasn't recovered from witnessing the big dick energy of Memetobe.
lel
Somebody post that one upskirt pic of Motobe
This is the last time she's appeared right? at the end fight of Son Of Ogre.
yes
Sukune is lonlier than Musashi he has no relationships despite being similar age to Baki, Hanayama etc.
what about that girl he fucked a few chapters ago?
I still think Musashi shouldn't have died at the end, he learned not to fucking kill people for pleasure anymore so surely he could just be left to his own devices like Pickle
He and Motobe could've become coffee pals discussing the art of war and shit
>She ded
Split down the middle
>he learned not to fucking kill people for pleasure anymore
He refused to stop.
I'm starting to think we will never ever see Motobe again
This is like a month later; he's probably just out of the hospital.
with all of the old characters we've seen referenced from the first series recently i'd be shocked if he didn't appear
worst part is I'm starting to think that more and more
>...what? Back in my day this shit made me famous
>want to get into baki
>start reading it
>half of the manga is not translated
>there is other missing huge chunks of it
>the only way to get the missing parts is the anime or reading the translations people post in foruns
What the fuck? How did you guys deal with this shit?
I don't understand why you keep reposting variations of this. Or if there are really this many stupid people.
To be completely honest, you can just skip what is missing, the story is full of the narrator explaining the things we already know, you could start with Baki Dou and not miss much
A lot of people watched the old 2001 anime and then jumped onto the manga where that anime ended. I guess now you can watch the netflix anime after the old anime too.
Yet I've read it all despite that
Was Tanba a good character?
Nah not really
Way more bland than Baki
People love saying Baki is the worst character in his manga but Tanba was on another level. I couldn't get hyped at all about his fights, while Baki has great moments
Why is Tokugawa acting like it's the first time he sees it?
The joke is that Baki totally did that
nope
People often forget that the sumo wrestler in UFC 3 (Emmanuel Yarbrough) pushed Keith Hackney so hard into the cage that the cage door broke and Hackney was sent flying out of the octagon. Now imagine if that had been a solid wall or hell, if he was shoved onto a road, in the way of oncoming traffic.
This is why I propose all MMA fights should be held in public sidewalks, for maximum realism.
Is there really a kung fu bear style? I watched so many chink martial arts movies I scrapped the bottom of the barrel and I don't think they ever used that one.
>pushed Keith Hackney so hard into the cage that the cage door broke and Hackney was sent flying out of the octagon.
More like the door opened and Keith took a few steps back
>This is why I propose all MMA fights should be held in public sidewalks, for maximum realism.
Then Keith wold have won even faster when he knocked down Emmanuel in the early secconds of the fight and he hit his head on concrete. And it is a sport man, you can't have people dying on every fight
Senility kicking in?
Fucking kenshiro couldn't even break steel bars in Shin HNK.
Which makes no sense considering he can punch through tanks and shit before then
What exactly is tokugawa's deal? He likes underground fighting but can't deal with death. Seems like he's both going too far and half-assing it at the same time.
He grows attached to his fighters
>imagines tokugawa tearfully chanting 'one more match!' at a fighter's retirement ceremony
weird but plausible
kay
I can't even recall Baki chilling out.
that asshole yuujiro does way more chilling out than baki
It's good to be the king.
Thx master! Baki is my favorite anime about martial arts that motivated me to become strong in the past
the maximum tournament animeholds up well in my opinion
That's what makes him a weirdly complicated character.
He loves fighting and fighters
For all his faults the guy is just a sentimental old man
Yeah sure if your blind deaf and have the patience of a fucking monk
Where do you even find this fan art from
Only times I see such quality content is on threads like this
I just search for Baki stuff on Pixiv, Twitter every couple months. 刃牙, バキ, 刃牙道, whatever.
I have now somehow discovered chink deviant art
Yeah, that's a problem with Pixiv as a whole.
Aren't these pages basically taken straight from the Pickle arc?
still haven't seen any quality art of sukune-kun on there
not at all
That is because nobody is drawing him.
=(
