I see so many controversial opinions on Hunter x Hunter. Can anyone actually break it down?

Basically every arc changes genre and characters and might as well be a different story (we do follow a general plot line, but it's like going from Dragon ball to Naruto to SAO to Mushishi) , all of those arcs are of great quality mind you, but having so much variety isn't a pro for some people.

And the high IQ shitposting started because one of those arcs is stupidly good and philosophic while mostly discarding fights, it's mostly about stealth and talking your way through.
BUT HxH is as good as the shitposters pretend it to be, even if they are obnoxious.

It used to be much more highly revered on Yea Forums before "Hunterchads" appeared. Hunterchads dragged down the good name of the series by constantly invading other threads, then posting walls of text sucking off their own series with pictures of Yea Forums recommendation pictures with "Hunter X Hunter reading list" plastered over it.

Basically, they killed good actual discussion of the series in the name of fake pseudo-intellectual discussion. The series itself is still great when separated from the fandom.

Watch the 2011 anime, not because of the art quality, but because I don't trust the shitty manga translations like that. And Madhouse makes things limpidly clear so even a retard like me knows what's going on. Knowing how the powers PRECISELY work is KEY. The added animation and quality of production Madhouse brings promotes that clarity. I refuse to even read the manga after the anime ends because the translations suck such fucking shit.

People that think it's shit or a complete masterpiece are wrong.
The start is 7/10, quite slow paced, and drags the score down, it does reach 9/10 in some places.

Just watched it for the first time. Genre switching made it stay very fresh. Went in with an open mind and was not disappointed at all. The chimera ant arc ended up subverting my expectations a lot, and those last few episodes of it were hard to watch. I'd definitely recommend the series to anyone who wants something a little longer to sink their teeth into.

It literally starts with the warm, nature-colored jolly adventure of late-1980s and early 1990s adventure shows, and slowly drips in those darker elements.
It also uses cinematography and visual symbolism as a mood-delivering tools, avoiding the need to use annoying commentators. The pacing is also way better, with the cliffhangers being placed much smarter than in the 2011 version.

Before I was reaching the chimera ant arc, seeing the name somewhere before and letting my own fantasy loose, I thought that the chimera ant arc was about some kind of a mutant expiriment ala Homunculus gone wrong and on the loose. Then I read the nightmare fuel on TvTropes about the chimera ant arc and I though they were set loose on cities and towns killing many civilians left and right. Also I only saw images of Phantom Troupe fighting and killing those creatures made me somehow stupid enough to think that those creatures sided with Gon and the good guys.

That was a time I was just reading hunter x hunter for the first time and read/heard some stuff about chimera ants while imaging what it was about. Also I was wondering why Hisoka and Illumi weren’t appearing in that arc.

Even if she did she probably doesn't have the stomach for it, so whether or not she crushed some bugs without realizing it is irrelevant when it comes to her being potentially crushed to death under Gon's fist. Unless you're unironically willing to argue that a bug not even endowed with sentience is as worthy of ethical consideration as a Human.
