Major manga spoilers. Pretty sure final boss of this arc is going to be Mishima. The final book of his Sea of Fertility series is titled Decay of Angel[s]. He was IRL Dazai's bitter mortal enemy and threatened, at one point, to kill him. It was mentioned in the manga that the group's goal was to dissolve the nation itself. Mishima attempted a coup against the japanese government, which failed, after which he committed harakiri. I'm reading SoF now but it's four books, not even I can read all of it by next week, probably. First two chapters were pretty good though.
As it happens, Mishima loathed Dazai, undoubtedly because he owed him so much in influence. Once, he followed Dazai to a party, styling himself as Dazai’s assassin, and told him to his face, “I hate your literature.” Dazai coolly looked him up and down and replied, “And yet you are here.”

Dazai's literature is so amazing. It's unpolished and full of raw emotions and brutal honesty. Mishima's stuff is highly polished, meticulously written, very delicate and composed. At the same time he was this /fit/ stoic dedicated to patriotism and military aesthetic. Mishima was also IRL a homosexual. He probably wanted to fuck Dazai but, being straight, he was denied the D. IRL Dazai was also around 6' tall and was up to his neck in women, but somewhat sickly looking and in poor health, very sensitive. Something about it must have driven women crazy. Four love children and affair on top of affair.

Kyouka's parents were skilled assassins so it makes sense they'd be able to take out people who come after them,which probably happens often.The blood thing was the ability of someone who wanted to kill them, similar to Hawthorne's ability, so once they were hit with it it was either kill themselves or kill their daughter then presumably die.

manga isn't really "for laughs." there's a lot left unsaid that has a huge emotional impact if you know the authors' backstories.
When Dazai first met Odasaku he commented, "What an unhappy man!" The two were best friends and Dazai composed a heartwrenching eulogy after Odasaku's death. As for Ango, he said that Dazai was one of the best contemporary authors back when Dazai was still relatively unknown. Anime Ango always supports Dazai from the background even if Dazai hates him now. The LN had a line where Odasaku comments "Dazai is just a child too smart for his own good [and not anything like 'evil']." This mirrors a line in Dazai's Das Gemeine where the Dazai-character "gave a momentary expression of a child in anguish [before covering it up with his haughty affectation again/]". When Dazai teases Kunikida's glasses it reflects that IRL Dazai hated glasses because he was shy and it felt like he was being watched while, simultaneously, being unable to watch the expression on their face, which he did because he was continually afraid of other people but tried to cover it up with cocky arrogance and clowning. IRL Dazai was a class clown type to cover up crushing social anxieties, anime Dazai always clowns around. It's a pretty heartbreaking series. I don't think asagiri kafuka is taking his suicidalism lightly at all, though it's presented as comical for the sake of not making the series too depressing. There's a lot of tenderness in how she writes him. Odasaku's death scene and their two interactions show it the best. Also in the manga when blind hunting dog brings up Dazai's past and he's in utter anguish over his past sins. Author Dazai did a lot of bad things and felt 10x worse about them than anyone else. Read Villon's Wife for an example (about 30 pages long.) He was also a chronic debtor and alcoholic, which we see in the anime. As soon as he got a sen he spent it.

Continuing. IRL Dazai became addicted to drugs after appendicitis nearly killed him. LN Dazai cooks implied cocaine chicken stew and feeds it to Kunikida, who gets hopped up and doesn't know what is going on.
IRL Chuuya had a brother die young, reflected by his Sheep plotline, which left him in grief afterwards. He dropped out of middle school and started composing poetry, taking influence from Rimbaud, who left france to live in north africa as a merchant, where he eventually crawled home only to die a few weeks later in agony in a hospital. While in africa he said he couldn't return to france because the winter was too cold there and would kill him. the anime Rimbaud was always wrapped in winter clothing complaining of the cold.
As for Odasaku's writing, he was called part of the delinquent school (buraiha) with Dazai and Ango, but his writing showed a good nature, trusting, loving, and generosity. This is reflected by his orphan adoption.
IRL Dazai was obsessed with Akutagawa, a relationship which is reversed for the anime.
IRL Natsume Soseki's Kokoro probably formed much of anime natsume's character, and his ability comes from his more humorous "i am a cat." He was also into Zen.
IRL Fukuzawa came from a samurai family and touted equality and education.
IRL Mori and Yosano knew each other and were both doctors. Mori mentored her. Elise is based on a german girl (17) mori impregnated and then abandoned.

As for Soukoku, Dazai and Chuuya IRL hated each other from the moment they met. They absolutely despised each other. Dazai was about 6' and Chuuya was barely 5' tall. Chuuya also got into drunken rages and was once arrested for breaking streetlights while drunk.

Oh, one more fact, the series title Stray Dogs probably comes from Dazai's short story Canis Familiaris. IRL Dazai was scared to death of dogs but kept their company often and even adopted a stray he felt sorry for. Basically he was a sweetheart who acted like an asshole to try and hide the fact.
