Kishi shouldn’t have written the protagonist meeting the psychopath as a “coincidence” but as friends who knew where each other lived, but could never meet due to them not being able to leave their homes. It would have been so much more motivating and makes sense considering they are the best players at the game they were playing.

Yeah, not keen on the coincidence part either, especially since they already had an existing link between the characters established, upon which the mc could have been motivated to track #2 down. I also expected them to know each other personally on an online basis. He was bound to his home for the entierty of his life, so I'd have expected he'd have a sizable amount of online acquaintances, since that was all he could realistically hope for, as far as human relations go. So on the one side, I commend their effort to invent a full scifi world from the ground up, but on the other, I feel like they could have done a bit better to make the characters, or rather their emotional state, more grounded and fleshed out. Let's see where Kishi and Okubo will take us.

Kishimoto is following the school of keeping greys to a minimum, that is because back in the day, it took so much time for non-digital to add the screentones which can now be implemented easily by digital artist. There were still plenty of artists that used screentones back in the day, but it's interesting to note that Oda, Kubo, and Togashi rarely use it as well. It seems Kishimoto's assistant that is doing the art is following the same style but, the problem is, he inks very few background stuff and barely crosshatches as a mean of shading.
