thanks user, it really felt like a disconnect between actual events and her reaction to it so it just didn't seem like much could have been on the line and I thought I misread it. I guess Araki was more interested in the details and the plot rather than making it feel more authentic. Arguably she could've been in such shock she didn't even acknowledge what had happened till it was over, it did happen very fast.

It was more comedic but I vastly prefer his newer stuff. Araki's art from SBR onwards has been a treat, it's incredibly interesting watching the process he takes while drawing too. That stream of him drawing the spread with all the JoJos in his current style was great.

Losing his fingers to Brainstorm didn’t phase him at all, he just used it as more ammo to see if he could guilt Josuke into betraying his morals as part of his test for him, he fucking exploded but unravelled himself and reassembled himself without too much complaint, and now he’s remaining calm and keeping his eyes on the prize despite having his fucking legs cut off. The guys a glutton for punishment and his personality contrasts Josuke and Yasuho’s really nicely.

We learned more about Kira after the Damo flashback, so undoubtedly we’ll learn more about him too.

Even longer. Don’t forget that SBR’s final arc took 36 chapters. Chapter 60 (Both Sides Now, Part 1) was originally called ‘To the Ground of the Final Battle’ in the magazine release, and it took a full 3 years to reach the end. JoJolion’s final arc will likely be a lot longer than that considering there’s a great deal more characters and plot threads running concurrently than SBR had. Not only are we probably a couple years away from reaching the final arc, that final arc will also likely last 3+ years all by itself.

I dunno if the Rock Humans would have had much to do with the Steel Ball Run since it was projected to last 6 months (only ended up taking 4 months) and the Rock Humans only stay awake for like 2-3 months max before sleeping another 2-3 months, so they wouldn’t feasibly be able to compete. That said, the Speedwagon Foundation was one of the sponsors of the race, and in the original series after making billions off of oil they became a pharmaceutical company, and a company that makes medicine would be very interested in a magic plant that can heal almost any injury or disease. The video of Wu that Yasuho and Mitsuba saw was assumed to be for shareholders, so it’s possible that Akefu Satoru is the SBRverse version of Soeedwagon or someone close to him. Don’t forget that Holly (a human) was allowed to study the Rokakaka in his hospital. She’s the only human besides Jobin who has been allowed to know of the Rokakaka’s existence, so if SBRverse Joseph and SBRverse Speedwagon have a history together like in the original series then it’s possible Akefu let Holly work on the Rokakaka project as a favour to Joseph or something. We’ve still gotta learn how Josefumi has the birthmark, and Joseph is the most likely candidate for that so we’ll be learning about SBRverse Joseph sooner or later. Honestly it could be anything at this point.

There was no retcon? Just because the fruit is the focus doesn’t mean the Ground was retconned. In fact the Ground has still been important during the fruit arc as well, after eating the fruit to heal Kira with Josefumi’s body they fall underground and the ground does the rest of the exchange, and in the Kaato/Jobin flashback chapter they outright bury the kid and exchange Jobin’s illness with him no fruit required.

Kind of, but it never felt like a slog to me. It's pretty interesting, and theory threads are fun too, so you should read it.

It’s just long and has a lot going on. There’s far more plot threads and characters than in any prior Part and it seems like Araki’s actually trying to use them all and not drop any for once. Not to mention that SBR’s final arc took a full 3 years to publish, so if we assume JoJolion’s to be of a similar length then it’s going to be 3 years at the absolute minimum assuming the final arc starts next chapter, which is unlikely as hell since the in-universe countdown to the harvest of the fruit everyone’s fighting for is still 5 days away.

Speaking of the countdown, lets do some math. It started in chapter 72 at 12 days and as of the end of chapter 86 it’s at 5 days. That’s an average of one day passing every 2.14 chapters. Assuming this average holds true for the coming chapters, the countdown will end in chapter 97. If Araki keeps averaging one break per year then we should reach chapter 97 early to mid next year, at which point the final arc MIGHT begin. If it’s anything like SBR’s final arc then it’ll last 3 years at the absolute minimum, meaning the earliest JoJolion will end is in 2023 with a chapter count in the 130s.

Pretty damn unlikely to actually unfold like this and I’m sure it’ll take longer as we get closer to the end of the countdown as more characters get involved but there you go. I’m also assuming Araki wants to hit 150 chapters again like he did with Parts 3, 4, 5 and 6 but with monthly chapters this time. If that’s the case then we’re roughly 57% of the way through JoJolion and it’ll end in 2025. This is the more likely option imo.

SO is hard to read at first because complicated stands and things are more subtle than earlier parts, it's when araki starts playing more with actual themes and characters and not just good dudes beat up bad dudes, not an easy shift because you're not actually looking for these things.

It usually only clicks after a reread, you understand the stands, the characters are more enthralling, etc.

Part 8 is going to take more than a decade all up to finish and Araki is 58, turning 59 this year. If we do get a Part 9 it’ll either be really short or Araki will step back from doing most of the art and will let his assistants do more of it. I’m not sure about that last one though, he’s not autistic to the degree of Togashi who won’t let anyone else draw HxH because it’s his passion project, even though he himself physically can’t draw it as fast as he wants to anymore, but Araki is autistic enough that there are certain things he won’t let anyone but himself draw. Yasuho’s skirt for example he apparently doesn’t let anyone else draw because he likes drawing it so much, his assistants fill in extra detail and shading on the backgrounds and on areas of characters Araki didn’t have time to do but he refuses to let them do certain things because he finds them really fun to draw.

I know Araki isn't that young anymore but it seems like he's in really good health and still loves writing JoJo, so we might get a part 9 with JoJo twins before he switches to Rohan one-shots or whatever he does aside from the main parts.

Kaato isn’t going to be the main villain. In chapter 59 she had no clue what Jobin was doing or who he was working with. She’s genuinely just a mother trying to help her son and will probably play a similar role to Kira’s dad from Part 4, being the main antagonist’s parent who forms a core part of their strategy.

Part 7 is 1+3
Part 8 is 2+4
Part 9 is 5+6

People thought Diego would end up being a big villain but he just ended up saying fuck you to valentine and went after him, it's not as easy to say so now since there is no valentine this part is 100% the main villain but you never know, hell Tsurugi could end up being the main villain

Part 7 felt more like 1+2 Redux. Other universe Dio showing up with The World doesn't count to represent 3 much.
Part 8 might be its own thing like 4

He’s never going to stop drawing but age will mean his releases slow down. Mid SBR he was doing 60+ pages per chapter, late SBR and early JJL he was averaging high 40s in page count and nowadays he’s averaging low 40s. As time goes by it’ll take longer and longer for him to finish stories and he seems intent on making those stories longer and longer too. Unless he lets his assistants take over most of the art duties at some point then I think it’s safe to say that Part 8 will be his last full length work. This cane from back when Part 5 was still running back in the late 90s so it probably isn’t accurate anymore but apparently Araki was planning on retiring in his mid 60s, which lines up pretty well with how much longer JoJolion has.

Regardless he’ll still do manga even after retiring cause drawing is his passion, but it likely won’t be serialised regularly and he’ll just publish chapters when he’s good and ready.

I could see him doing a Part 9 after retiring, but of course that would mean it wouldn’t be released regularly and would take even longer than JoJolion to finish. I’m interested in seeing how he’d fare with a long running series that isn’t serialised, since he’d have no deadlines and on stuff that isn’t his main manga work he can put in a hell of a lot more detail than usual. Araki already does good art on a deadline but seeing what he could do when the only deadline is when he feels completely satisfied with it would be cool.
