I'm biased because I grew up with Gundam Wing, but I could easily marathon all 49 episodes plus Endless Waltz and it still wouldn't get old. Such a great memorable cast, an amazing dub, some of the coolest MS designs in the entire franchise, the music is fantastic, and the story taking place from the perspectives of the terrorists is a cool change of pace.

Some of the issues brought up in Wing are also very relevant today, specifically the moral discussion of the use of drones in warfare, and whether an autonomous drone should be able to make the decision to kill people instead of that responsibility falling onto the shoulders of living pilots.

War in the Pocket for story. Thunderbolt for aesthetic and style.

The original is a classic for a reason, that show has aged visually, but even so it still has great direction and visual composition despite how wonky it looks at times.
The compilation movies look a lot better though.

Other than that 00 is an amazing modern HD Gundam series and probably the best one to air since Turn A
Aside from build fighters it's the only modern Gundam series that felt completely planned out from start to finish.
G-Reco is kinda good, but I don't like to recommend it because it's very hard to get into

Boring is a non-criticism and there was not a second I was bored during Turn A anyway. Go take your ADD medication.

Also, honourable mention to ZZ. I'd list it at 5, if not for the first 18 episodes (until they meet Ple). Everything after that is as good or nearly as good as Zeta (especially the Dakar/Dublin arc). And when Glemy comes into his own around then, the show really kicks off in continuing the themes that Zeta started exploring.

The story of IGLOO 1 isn't bad, and I would actually say it's pretty good. But the CG is just so bad. If it weren't for that, I would easily say it'd be among the top on my list. IGLOO 2 was dogshit though.

Leina is all you need to look at to see how much care was put into ZZ's writing, it never gets better. Joke of a death and joke of a resurrection to shoehorn in a reference to an older character for no reason.

For old series I pick 0079. Characters in the sequels after that are just too 'Tomino' for me. For modern series I think 00 is still the best. Lack of beam weapon in Orphans made it visually less appealing.

IBO had a pretty good first season and don't bother watching the second

I watched everything except IBO, which I dropped like halfway through S1 due to hating basically every single character.
IMO the thing worth watching the most is, by far, the original storyline - 0079-Zeta-CCA.
ZZ is optional, as the two main characters do not make an appearance there. You can easily revisit it after CCA if you want to and not miss anything.
0079 movies are an acceptable substitute for the TV series. Zeta movies are not.

The second 0079 movie is terrible. The series has superior pacing and the character-building moments have more breathing room and create greater impacts.

I'm not here to argue, neither version is perfect but if you want to get the gist of it the story, the movies are a fine substitute. One can always revisit the TV series later on.

It lets the exhaustion and war fatigue of the White Base crew set in, and there are always character-building side plots in those episodes. Plus, it generally splits the episodes into arcs with certain relevant opponents, such as Ramba Ral. The films are also overly restrictive with the character moments, and as a result too much of the weight is missing from those versions of 0079.
