Granted, these are extraneous bouts between competitors who haven't been personalized beyond their names and appearance, but from a writing standpoint, what's the purpose of setting up a big tournament then? If we're only going to focus on a handful of matchups, why not shrink the number of competitors down to something like 8 in the first place? And if this is some kind of metatextual joke about tournament arcs, it's not a particularly funny or clever one.

The manga used the matches ad a way to mirror how Genos was using the same moves but more effectively against monsters. Both happened simmotanously howverr the anime just did the fucking opposite by having the matches first then Genos doing the same moves the announcer said they did. My guess is that they didn't want to try such a scene again since last time they did it with king and other Genos fight and it fucked the pacing and emotional impact of the king scene. Also because they shoved in so much shit and focus time on the wrong shit.

They did so with the scene of Garou stomping the concrete, the bodies of Do-S and Eyesight on the monitor scene only, even this random fuck Suppon who we'll never see again. When they try they can, sure it's not as good as it should be but at least it's passable. In the armored gorrila fight, we can see genos jumping, kicking off armored gorrila, carrying that momentum to another shot and accelerating against that momentum. hell, we even see a pov shot of genos running up to armored gorrila. JC staff's direction is so shitty, it feels like genos is just floating. We don't even see him use his elbow rockets anymore.

I think Pheonix man was Golden Sperm level by the end, he could've been a threat level god if he died one more time. He went from fodder, to demon and became equal to the mech suit, then he went to Dragon and being able to easily dispatch the mech but he only took the arm for some reason. Finally he went into his half angel half demon looking final form before he ripped off his own suit.
