My theory for Asuka being so aggressive is that she wants to make Tomoko into her best friend because she doesn't have any true friends who don't care about her appearance or social status and saw the potential in her after she went from random loner into a girl who has connections a wild variety of people.
The reason Asuka tries so hard is the fact that she has only one year of high school left and their university choices aren't set in stone yet, meaning they could go different paths if Tomoko prioritizes other schools because of Nemo and/or Yuri. At first Asuka tried to get close to her through normal means, but since it didn't have much effect (because Tomoko is anti-normalfag at core), she wanted to be at the receiving end of sekuhara since that's what Tomoko said she did to her best friend, Yuu.

The eventual big development that's guaranteed to happen is how strong each relationship with Tomoko and the other girls are and how getting close to graduation, not to mention the graduation itself and the aftermath, will effect them. Personally I'm looking forward to it because the drama in the series has been really good so far (early Imai stuff, Komi-Yuu dynamics, class trip, Nemo-Akane fight, etc).

Just look at the I in "trip" compared to elsewhere. They must have a bad pixel-hinting algorithm or something to cause text rendering issues like that. The O in out also looks like it had its lower-left corner chopped off, as another example, but these errors all all over the page.

So it's a typesetting error, but it probably looked fine in print resolution, and went all screwy when someone downscaled the image for digital.
