For the most part I love the characters, but don't actually care much for the series itself. If we're talking solely the anime then I'd have to say that the 2011 anime is mostly good with a few really bad moments, the CG anime is ok, but not as good as the 2011 anime and the movie is trash. Most of the other stuff varies but I don't want to make a super long post on every single aspect about the series. It is better than most other idol series though.

Best animated television anime of the 2010s and contender for AOTD. The only idol anime that ever managed to be more than mere pandering. Spearheaded by some of the most skilled people in the industry and a literal M@STERPIECE. And this is coming from someone who has seens thousands of cartoons, shortfilm, movies and television anime alike. IM@S is a masterpiece and it deserves to be treasured. It's social commentary is so thourough and its criticism and optimism are so genuine. I went into it expecting idoltrash. I left being in awe of the production and every single one of its element.
Prefer Love Lives music, though. Not a fan of many IM@S songs, but that's irrelevant.

It's not perfect, but it has lots of perfect things about it so you can forgive the bad parts. Every single character is likable in some way and they all get moments to shine, the music is catchy and varied, the art style is really one of the best in anime and the animation can be stunning. It was clearly made by fans who are passionate about the games and took little pieces from each of them. The second half has too much of Kuroi trying to sabotage them, and Hibiki's episode is straight-up poor, but it's saved by things like Chihaya's solo performance.
One of my favorites, and Miki is the love of my life.

I like the cast of CG more, but the OG does have a special place in my heart still. I love Azusa and Yayoi. Azusa's episode is one of my favorite anime episodes ever just for how silly and fun it is. The original is better in terms of story and execution, but what I like the most out of iM@S in general is when it's just fun and not plot-focused like those special bonus episodes of OG and CG. CG has the best overall songs.

iM@S was the perfect series for me when it came out. I really wanted to watch cute girls doing cute things, but not in a school setting as most anime did at the time. The series was a breath of fresh air and has made me a life-time fan of iM@S. I loved their huge variety of music and how they incorporated it into the anime.
And along with the series, I found Chihaya, who is forever my waifu. No other character tops her in my eyes.

Holy shit what a shit. Idolmaster isn't an anime, but a fucking game. And then the most appealing part are the dance performances. And then the dances are really only appealing because the (by default not oversexualized) characters are cute and pure and have an actual personality. So they aren't just objectified walking holes. Which, of course, makes 2d and waifus so attractive relative to "liberated" 3d roasties, who are just walking holes without any kind of emotional and social value. Idolmaster characters are absolutely worth jerking off to (as opposed to random thots from other games or real life), because they have actual value as character. Liberated 3d women and random porn thots, however, are just soulless objects. Thinking of them while jerking off is like... thinking of a plant. Or other inanimate object without soul. It's pointless.
Personally, I found the following 765 idols worthy of being jerked off to in a beautiful/cute sexy kind of way: Miki, Hibiki, Haruka, Yayoi, Chihaya, Takane (And Maybe Iori)
