So chihiro asks kadota what he is doing waiting in line, and he replies that he´s trying to get some curry bread. It turns out that after being sent so many times as errand boy by yugami for it, he has come to actually like the taste.
Sensing the irritation, Chihiro asks him if all is going well in the baseball club and he replies that the new normal is him and yugami always arguing during the games, which isn´t as it should be.
Yugami cuts in to warn them that the special flavour they want will be sold out by the time they reach the counter, and Kadota asks him why did he even bother saying anything rather than buy it for them or something, but Chihiro doesn´t mind and just leaves to buy something else.

While Kadota ponders about Chihiro´s amazing reaction, Shiori interjects that while kadota doesn´t seem to be able to connect, the connection Chihiro and Yugami have is like that of the anemone and clownfish, with the clownfish not being affected by the anemone poison while the clownfish keeps the anemone healthy, and the both of them have come to develop an exquisite sense of distance.
Kadota agrees, and then Shimizu passes by to compliment his team for appearing on tv. Kadota is surprised that she no longer has problems talking to him, when before she kept elusive as if he were a wolf and she a fox.
Meanwhile, Nidou has no time for romance.

All I can get from that interaction is that Kadota was freaked out from his weirdness, and was glad kido was there to bring some normalcy.
Meanwhile Yugami had his suspicions, but from the smell and taste of the cookies in chihiro´s posession, he confirms that they were made with the recipe he taught shimizu so she could make them for kadota.

Yugami asks the question implicitely, and kido confirms that indeed shimizu has found another good person she likes, and to Yugami´s next question she just nods tosay he doesn´t know anything yet.
Kido says that while there never was a actual relationship between them, and that Kadota never really tried to approach her, she believes he made it out to be something special and that the news would hit him bad, so she decided to only tell him after the tournament is over.
However, Yugami tells Kido that Kadota is a man that will face things head on, be them good or bad, and so that he can handle it. Kido trusts Yugami and tells Kadota...

Kido tries to soften the blow, by pointing out he made it out to be much more than it ever was.
After a moment of self reflection, kadota asks kido why did she even join the baseball club, and kido replies she originally was part of the volleyball club, but that she had to stop after she got her knee injured. That perhaps, becoming a manager for the baseball team was a way of her proving to herself she wasn´t useless.
Kadota feels he can symphatise, as he does his best to keep playing as Yugami´s catcher but even as a main player, he doesn´t seem to get much respect, not even from Yugami himself.

However Kido answers back that Yugami DOES care, and mentions this one time that Kido offered to get someone else to fetch bread for Yugami, and that he replied that he didn´t need it. She then asked Yugami why he asked Kadota to do it if that was the case, to which he replied that if Kadota always refuses to refuse going to fetch bread it´s because he actually wants to do it.
Kadota gets outraged at the thought, but Kido thinks Kadota´s too soft if he couldn´t actually refuse to do it once if he really didn´t want to do it. Kadota then asks about the curry bread, which I think it´s from her, and she replies she noticed he didn´t manage to buy it in time.
The last scene is Yugami deciding to train with Yokomizo for now but that Kadota will be the main catcher for the next game, which is the koshien qualifying tournament semi-final.

Next match is against arguably the thoughest team in the tournament, Houjou academy and their superb slugger Nanda, who won the last Koshien qualifying tournament.
Not even Kadota´s family think their chances are good, since Yugami gave out an interview where he isn´t very confident in his teammates abilities...
Back in class Kaori asks if Yugami´s listening to music to focus on his baseball performance, and Chihiro explains to her the Rakugou routine he is actually doing.
Somehow Yugami is managing to pay attention to what Chihiro is saying from across the room even while focusing in his pitching visualization, as we´ll see later on.
And I´d like to note that controling the thrown ball within a 3 x 3 square is actually pretty impressive, especially in high school.

While Yugami is in top form, the same cannot be said for his teammates, who are all a bit intimidated. Nanda reminishes on the last time he went against Yugami, and wants to pay him back for being struck out. This time Yugami throws a slider like Kadota requests, but while Nanda strikes the ball it doesn´t count as a hit because Nidou catches it before it can hit the ground, and so Nanda is sent out.

After 6 innings, the houjou team coach is berating his players for supposedly being the top attacking team in the tournament yet getting no results, while the players themselves have literally given up on hitting difficult throws and are hoping nanda will score.
On Kamioshi´s side, our poor komai-kun still struggles to put himself together, but when he overhears Yugami answering if he still could go on as he has been, he remembers the conversation about the good luck amulet back when he first started.
Even though it didn´t work, he got another one from Shiori (who either said it was worth 500 yen or actually charged him for it) and he REALLY wants to impress her, so he goes for it...and strikes it infield, without even being able to reach first base. Still, everyone else thinks it´s an improvement.

It´s Yugami´s turn to bat, and he reaches second base with a solid hit, despite kadota´s protests that he should be taking it easy to be able to keep pitching.
The guy after him is the 4th batter, which makes a sacrifice bunt and lets him reach third base. Nanda is shocked by this, since the 4th batter is supposedly the best slugger the team has (like himself), but yugami replies that in their team it´s just some guy.
The one to bat afterwards is Nidou, who also gets a solid hit despite Kadota´s terrible advice. And since Kadota is next, he wants to make up for it and keep scoring.

Kadota gets a hit, and allows Nidou to score a run from second base, but gets himself eliminated by trying to go beyond first base.
It does mean that Kamioshi is ahead by two points, which is a 5 sixes get worthy, but the price is steep, for Yugami immeadiately notices that kadota severely injured his catching hand.
And while this is the end of chapter 71, at best, there are still three innings to go before the game ends, so it´s gonna get difficult.
It´s also interesting to see just how much things have changed since chapter 24, which was against the same team.
Kadota and Yugami are communicating, the team hasn´t made any pathethic errors, the enemy team went from evying Nanda´s protagonism to depending on him to put them out of the tight spot, Kamioshi has actually scored... Not bad results within less than a year.
That´s all from me today, while for tomorrow we´ll see the exciting conclusion, which involves fireworks.
