Some isekai have proved decent over the years but there's always been an upward trend of the most annoying aspect by far that drags the genre down: MC encounters verbal resistance from a hostile party and everyone starts sucking his dick furiously by defending his ass. It's the premier kind of self-satisfaction that this kind of audience loves for very sad reasons

I tend to think of anime in terms of core anime (which have fanservice and are awkward to associate yourself with in public) and fringe anime that you might watch with your parents or siblings.
There is nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with fanservice and moeshit, but I want to keep Yea Forums true to core anime, because that is what anime is really about (though I have a suspicion it is going to die soon).

As someone who was bullied and who is generally rather unhappy with real life I could never relate to full blown escapism. If I want comfort I rather watch characters struggle with the same problems as I do to have someone to relate to plus a BIT of fantasy to make it more interesting, anime worthy and see some bit of hope or a more complicated, more mystical world. Often korean stories will focus more on SOCIAL raising of the protagonist because Koreans are all obsessed with status, whereas Chinese stories focus on raw power and Japanese stories focus on creature comforts like sex, food, and baths.
Because you don't need it to be isekai to have average highschooler pilot mechas, and that's all sci-fi is for Japan.

They're usually classified like 3 or 4 levels like "Beginner/Mid/Advanced magic"which is pretty boring.
I really liked the system in Soul Land/Douluo Dalu where you get one main power and you level it up via monsters traits and you usually get 1 skill depending on said monster.
I also really like "Only 1 element" trope where people can only use 1 type of element for their magics, it restricts them so they have to make a better use of their main element, this goes to shit with MCs that have all elements though.
On my headcanon im making an MC who uses both light magic, using it to mainly create barriers to protect but can be used quite gory like locking someone with a barrier then expanding a new barrier withing said barrier crushing everything inside, or just shrinking it.
Also making barrier walls that can be thin enough to cut if thrown. Always liked the idea of using a defense based system to attack.

Yeah wolfie is really fucking the readers over. Every single time he's given a deadline for the last few years he's missed it, usually by weeks. Right now he's like 6 days into a "1-2 day break". He's given up posting on his blog so he doesn't have to edit and he STILL isn't actually releasing any chapters.
I really like the story but christ the translators fucking me at every turn. The only consolation is that I don't care about the other series he's translating which is in an even worse state.

Hell I think the only reason I picked it up was cause I was on vacation and nostalgia took over after I went on that ride at Universal. Depends on the MTL and the novel. The most important thing of course is to not really care too much about quality and only needing the gist of it. If that matches, then it's okay. Basically it's like a manga panda summary, so you best pick a novel where you're not taking it very seriously and just want shits and giggles which is what I sought. You also gotta binge it, cause then your brain starts picking up patterns and you start 'translating' on your own. I'm not sure what this phenomenon is called, but it's like how you can get used to playing non-eng games simply due to memorizing the buttons/menu/etc. I definitely would never recommend it to anyone but I can't deny that perhaps the broken English sometimes gave me pic related vibes which made reading through it much more tolerable.
