Not as bad as that JJBA episode where a thrown scissor sliced off a foot.

Except that longsword is completey rigidly fixed and backed by the table.
To make this test fair they'd first have had to tie a plank to the Katana too.

That said, of course some European sword designs are suprior in many respects, and so is the quality of metal.
In the end a Katana is just a light saber.
They had their reasons for carrying two or three blades.

>In the end a Katana is just a light saber
It's actually pretty heavy for its size.

Yeah, it wasn't the best choice of words.
It's "light" in the sense of thin (for a saber).
The blades are pretty long, though, especially if you consider the dudes using those were all manlets.

They are also not very thin. Quite thick actually, more so on the backside.
>The blades are pretty long
Depending on what type of katana we are talking about, but for a two-handed sword they were relatively short. Although often intended to be used with one hand as well.

*based on the actual history of Japan

Isn't she worried someone could find the treasure and steal it before they come back? Traps and bombs along the way, you never know.

werent katanas mostly just for show? ive heard real samurais basically never used them and preferred spears and shit instead. katanas were just good for making all fancy to show off status

doesnt matter which one was fixed, you'd get the same result the other way around. theres still space below for it to bend if it was weaker

Guess I keep making the same mistake; thin in terms of width of the blade, not thickness.
Most sabers are wider and less thick.
Guess that is because they didn't use homogenous steel with differential hardening but that sandwich stuff (obviously still dfferentially hardened).

In regards to weapon length.. always depends on the wielders size. They definitely are a good length for 150-160xm manlets.
Overall it's average for a saber, but long in proportion.

No, that's dumb. On the battlefield the spear and the bow, later guns, were the primary weapons, but the katana was always the side weapon of choice. Some troops fought primarily with the katana. It was also used for personal self-defense, in duels and in fights were you didn't have enough room for spears, like inside of buildings or on ships.
The fulfilled the same role as the medieval sword. The idea that it was just for show comes from a time when japan was in general much more peaceful. But the weapon itself was always used.

They were archers first and foremost, and when fighting on horseback would use yari or naginata or similar weapons.
The katana really was a backup of sorts, for duelling, as a status symbol and for carrying in public for self defense.

"space" as in a quarter inch maybe.
Inverting the test (other than the difficulty of making a table match the katanas curvature) would have different results, although they'd probably both be damaged severely then.
Of course a broadsword is more robust in that dimension, though the nick the katana leaves is severe and the sword would probably have to be discarded or reforged afterwards.
Edge on edge contact always destroyes a sword eventually.

>his country doesn't have enormous crab demons
Aren't you embarrassed to post here, user?

its not like it bent down and hit the table though. i dont deny that both swords should be damaged from this, but the broadsword is significantly more durable and would win both ways round

Katanas were always two handed swords baka! They kept more than two swords because the blades would break easily due to their inferior metallurgy, so that they could always switch to the sub weapons which were nothing but another katanas

asianfag here
why are westerners so butthurted over our katana
it's hilarious

its not the metallurgy that was inferior, the metal itself was just shit. they did their best to get over that but you just cant beat good materials

Why do people always compare longswords and katana to each other when the longsword is a primary weapon with a 100-140cm blade and the katana is a secondary weapon with a 60-70cm blade?
A proper match up would be a longsword and a long tachi or odachi.

If that was the case, samurai would have carried multiple katana instead of only a wakizashi for backup.

>Giant enemy crabs!

The katana started as a side-sword for horse archers. IThe standard katana can be used with both hands, but there also exists two-handed and shorter one-handed versions.

Fun fact. Japan has very little iron to make steel and nearly all swords were made with iron mined in Korea and China

should have just made swords out of silver

katana were heavily used in Edo period(after Sengoku) since assassination and urban combat happens a lot.

Got the part where he swings the longsword and breaks the katana in half?

who was in the wrong here? can women really not understand politics?

Doppio was probably augmenting his throw with KC's strength, which is enough to punch a 6-inch hole in someone's torso like it's nothing.

>1000 years have passed
>women still don't understand politics
how

In that historical and social context it's a true statement.
Even if a woman was so lucky to be given an education and/or marry a lord's wife, I guess she would have never been allowed to take part in the political life. You can't understand when you lack experience and awareness.

and/or become a lord's wife*
fuck

Glorious nippon steel that cuts legbones like butter

>In that historical and social context
Nigger, it's true TODAY. Just look at any given election and how women vote.

The Sacred Blacksmith is an excellent anime that really know it's stuff.

The steel used to forge that katana was saturated with spirit energy emitted by a huge demonic dragon sealed inside of a volcano, of course it would have supernatural sharpness.

>can sever legs when thrown
>cant cut a piece of wood when two handed
