Sun and Moon may be the worst in terms of art direction by a thousand kilometers, but it does its side characters better than any of the previous seasons. Lilie is still the waifu pandering character, but she's got a pokemon, has actually fought villains, and tries to help out when the time comes. Lana, despite being a gag character in the games and predominantly in the show, has a clear goal in mind and does her best to work towards it. Hell, she fucking "caught" Kyogre for a while and released it. Mallow is a chef above all else, and learns all sorts of cooking stuff throughout the adventures that end up being what she cooks for the islands in her famous cafe. Everyone gets some kind of love in this show, and that's a really nice thing. Even Team Rocket's lovable dumbass trio gets exciting episodes, and they actually beat Ash twice in actual fair 1v1 battles with a crushing defeat both times. Shame that comical stuffed Bewear had to take them away when they were winning, but it can't be argued that they didn't objectively kick Ash' ass twice this time.

It may not look the best (and it definitely doesn't), but it sure is the best season so far.

I feel jealous for all those little kids nutting for their first time to Lillie.

I like the Bear, if only for the fact that it can pull Team Rocket out of the plot while they're winning. In past seasons, they HAD to be beaten in every episode so the story could wrap up (outside of very, very rare exceptions). It's still bullshit, but it allows Team Rocket to come across as more competent.

They've been as fun as the original cast. It will definitely hurt to not have them anymore, but they've gotten so much development that they will likely have a good sendoff.
