So far my feelings are mixed. On one hand it has the stuff you expect from Hayashida, on the other hand so far it feels like another uninspired and predicable sci fantasy with quirky designs for sake of quirkyness. The thing is, in Dorohedoro the rules were easy to understand formthe start, but I am yet to figure out how the world of Dai Dark actually works.

I am afraid she will follow the footsteps of Nihei, never being able to replicate the greatness of the first (in her case second) work while slowly fading to obscurity untill one day her son will tell her she should draw less boring manga.

Its not terrible but so far the series lacks something to get you hooked. Neither of the main characters are specially funny or amusing, so that could be it. And the premise of a magical kid with unknown powers running away from everyone else isnt a big selling point so far.

Its easy to forget but Dorohedoro ran during a shitton of years, and authors tend to degrade over long period of years. Maybe Hayashida doesnt have it in her to do a good manga anymore

How many chapters are out?

3

It definitely lacks the hook that Dorohedoro had at the start, but she could just be taking it slow now that she is famous and doesnt have to worry about cancelation.

It feels like Hayashida ran out of steam. It's exactly the same problem as late Dorohedoro, it's just borderline randumb for the sake of randumb but without any serious investment into the characters, mystery or the world. Dorohedoro was an enigma. It had a weird setting, sure, but it also had really good interactions and chemistry between the characters and it was hooking you up on the mystery of Kaiman's head since the very beginning. Dai Dark lacks in that aspect completely and after Hayashida's refusal to develop Dorohedoro's main cast in any meaningful way i doubt anything good will come out of this work too.

Hayashida should have just gone for the rom com she so obviously want to write.

>predictable
Okay, predict what will happen next because it seems like anything could happen to me.

I blame the inability to draw titties.

I'm pretty sure the part near the end of Dorohedoro with Nikaido's tits out was in this same magazine. It had already switched over by that point. There's no female characters in this manga so far.

>Only 3 chapters out
>"Oh man I dunno guys she's just making shit up as she goes"

Did you read Dorohedoro? The first few volumes were basically SOL because of Q's slow and meandering story telling. Judging it based on the first few chapters is stupid

Can’t she use porn for reference like everybody else?

>Did you read Dorohedoro? The first few volumes were basically SOL
And that bizarro ass SOL was fucking amazing, with great world building and some mysteries already existing in the story.
Shit, the first Dorohedoro's chapter hooked me up already.

>follow the footsteps of Nihei

You mean making cult classic blame! and then moving on to smash hit Knight of Sidonia? You could honestly have picked a better example.

You gotta remember that everyone read the first 3 chapters of dorohedoro back to back then continued to read the first volumes within a day. Everyone forgets what its like to follow shit monthly and only remember how everything went fast when they ate through all the chapters they could. I really don't get what everyones problem is though, theres quite a bit of mystery already and the two main characters are a lot of fun.

>tfw most of your favorite manga are all monthly.
This is true hell

Like others are saying, it's still way too early to make judgments. The best parts of Dorohedoro were the world and the characters, and we haven't seen very much of either yet

>on the other hand so far it feels like another uninspired and predicable sci fantasy with quirky designs for sake of quirkiness
How many good scifi mangas are there now? Maybe in pre 2000s but now barely anyone makes sci fi now. Also how the fuck is it uninspired and predicable?

>with great world building and some mysteries already existing in the story
Dai Dark's doing this better than Dorohedoro did in it's first three chapters so far imo The actual issue with Dai Dark is that we hardly have much of a cast to grasp onto at the moment.

>after Hayashida's refusal to develop Dorohedoro's main cast in any meaningful way
They did develop though, everyone resolved all their issues and found the place they felt they belonged. We both know what you're actually complaining about not happening.

> It's exactly the same problem as late Dorohedoro, it's just borderline randumb for the sake of randumb
Literally everything in late Dorohedoro was heavily foreshadowed ages in advance and not "randumb for the sake of randumb" though.

When reading Dai Dark I had a feeling Yea Forums would dislike it though because there's no perceivable romance aspect in there, which is all people here actually care about (in general not just with Dorohedoro) as hard as you guys deny it

Dorohedoro had no romance, just Hayashida's retarded baiting that existed for literally zero reason and never went anywhere, i seriously prefer the story to be clear of it rather than to lead nowhere.

>Nihei, never being able to replicate the greatness of the first (in her case second) work while slowly fading to obscurity untill one day her son will tell her she should draw less boring manga.
Did that actually happened?

Dorohedoro's first few chapters were all slow and boring too.

>we hardly have much of a cast to grasp onto at the moment
We have Avakian and Spaghetti and Meatballs though. Avakian kinda comes off as a parental figure, but needs more development. Mabespa feels like dude version of Devil Nikaido so far.

> I had a feeling Yea Forums would dislike it though because there's no perceivable romance aspect
What made Dorohedoro endearing was the characters and Q's ability to make horrific situations light hearted and funny. Obviously the characters needs time to be fleshed out, but Q's signature humor is front and center in Dai Dark so that's what's keeping me interested.

>just Hayashida's retarded baiting
What aspects of Dorohedoro felt like bait to you?

Nikaido only followed Kaiman around at first so she could see his face, blushing at the moment when she thought he finally got it back.
There's a few other vaguely romantic moments between them like when says farewell to her and she sees his human face for the first time.

Then I guess that bait was far too weak for me. In my eyes those two only ever saw each other as really close friends.

I don't mind there not being an kissing in the manga. Kaiman and Nikaido/Shin and Noi can have a romantic relationship without having to get down and dirty. It's all about the emotion

I'm one of the people who was hoping for a hard confirmation of romance towards the end
to be honest, Dorohedoro's ending didn't really bug me as much as it seemed to for a lot of people here, the characters basically ended up how I hoped they would in that regard even without formally being stated to be in pairs or whatever. Typical manga/anime romance is this crappy melodramatic overly nervous shit between two characters where it's often hard to believe are together at all. "Romance" between the closest of friends is way more endearing in my opinion, hell it's more believable too since we're talking about two people who are exclusively stuck with each other. Dorohedoro moreorless delivered on that for me.

I thought everyone's main problem with the ending was the gyoza magic powers.

I really liked the ending. Maybe people wanted something a little more circular but to me it felt like the aftermath of an apocalyptic event. Most of the dead stayed dead, Kaimen was on neutral terms with En's family as appose to being buddy buddies. Everyone had to deal with the consequences of the story and their actions. It was a fitting ending

I'm more hurt that Dokuga ended like THAT.

Those guys all getting a bad end was unexpected

I like monthly manga better than weekly. It's the perfect gap in releases imo. The problem for me is it take's forever for a series to finish if it's long, not the gap in releases. That being said I keep forgetting I'm reading Dai Dark until I see someone on Yea Forums mention the new chapter's out.

It would be pretty hard to top the first chapter of Dorohedoro.

It was manga about dealing with life in unfair and disgusting world ruled by actively malicious God (basicaly just like the real one except with cool magic and monsters), what did you expect?

male nikaido is cute

I was thinking Shin if his childhood hadn't been so fucked up.

ah yeah, he does look like a genki shin.
