If we put that among the toy leak and the extra space it's pretty obvious that we'll get a sixth Red Cure. Cosmo is scheduled to join the cures around episode 20~22 per usual so having the 6th at 32~34 is pretty normal. Normally we would start having sings of someone filling that gap in a few episodes UNLESS they go by either E1 or Sakurako. A new girl out of nowhere would look too hamfistied.

Not really, a gaijin actually helped to create that episode, there's a guy that went to visit Toei for a few months during the Smile Precure year, he wrote an academic research about "how multimedia franchises mix fiction and real life" or something along these lines, I wouldn't take everything that he wrote there as truth (a lot feels like a bunch of words just saying the same thing) but there's some interesting stuff about how Toei makes Precure, and also how he participated in the creation of the Brian episode.

But that's just temporary, also we get to see principal Riko and that's a pretty important part for her character if you ask me.
Overall yeah, I agree that the penultimate episode is the true finale/climax, but I don't think the last one diminishes my experience, it kinda feels like a post-series OVA and I'm liking this new concept in Precure, KiraKira and Hugtto also did epilogue episodes and I think giving a bit more room to breath after the finale is nice.

I'd be lying through my teeth if I said the overarching story mattered more to me personally than the "characters, premises, and world settings" but I think they matter to a degree. If nothing else, the ending needs to feel satisfying. My main gripe with Smile and why I don't think as fondly as I should on it despite enjoying 99% of it isn't that it has no story, it's that the final episode really leaves it on a sour note because it's just 24 minutes of crying and then the reason for said crying is undone in the last second anyway.

With the intent of making it viable for the little girls to get their parents to buy them + Bandai being able to mass produce, the prices get really good. In Japan, you can get an individual figure for usually 500 yen plus tax.
