Tell me about your favorite weird apocalypse manga, anons. It really is its own genre in manga, I think. You have shit like Kami Sama no Iutoori, Green Worldz, Mad Chimera World, Magical Girl Apocalypse, Biomeat, ect.

I'm currently reading a newish one called Tokyo Dragons. It isn't exactly stellar but I like the monster designs and I'm wondering where they'll go from there.

Oh, and Pygmalion too. Only on chapter 1 but it's fucking whack. Maybe moreso because mascots creep me out already.

Higanjima

Not an end of the world story since the events are contained in a town but Jinmen is a good read and the monsters creepy faces makes even cute animals scary.

Huh, this seems a lot crazier than the usual vampire stuff.

I'm intrigued

I read and like HIVE

>Biomeat
It's been a while since I saw that title. Biomeat was a fun one.

Is jinmen in hiatus or just no one translating it? Last thing I remember from it came back in february.

Dolly kill kill

I read some Gofun Go no Sekai lately. It features destructo Buddhas. The art is familiar but I don't think I read the mangaka's other stuff. Maybe it just reminds me of Douman Seiman.

Apocalypse no Toride was a silly one. Can't say I remember my manga well enough to have a favorite apocalypse one. I guess Blame is one in a way--and Biomega and Sidonia.

The group translating it apparently closed.
The manga is still ongoing and the raws are up to chapter 109.

>that arm & blood splatter

reminds me of "I am a Hero"

Well fuck. What are the chances a different team picks it up? Is that common among translators?

I'd also really like it if it was just what I expected

Pygmalion was surprisingly wholesome.

I fell in love with Astra Lost In Space when I first started reading it, but the apocalypse part came as a surprise. The apocalypse part is a fuckhuge spoiler, so if you had any interest, don't read the spoiler.

The "Earth" that Humanity lives on is a second planet rapidly colonized in the time prior to real Earth's impending impact with a massive meteor that threatened to end all life permanently. The Human race quickly devised warp technology, and colonized a planet that was safe to live on with a damn near perfect atmosphere. They altered history en masse so that their newer generations would never know war or strife, and had a perfect utopia. Only after the teen crew rescues a lost Russian in cryostasis do they find out that there's a strange 1200 gap in history between them, and it quickly spirals out of sanity as everything falls into place.

Also, it's getting an anime soon, so I can't be any happier to experience the wild ride again.

This thread is a godsend. I literally just finished alice in borderland And hakaiju and need my monster/horror fix

I feel like a lot of these are just kind of the same, with cheap shock value to keep people reading. There's also always that one character who is obviously an evil douchebag but you have to watch the main cast be oblivious to him. It's worse if the author just gives them tons of plot armor so you have to watch the douchebag survive constantly because otherwise the story wouldn't have as much conflict.

That said, I think Apocalypse no Toride is probably my favorite. It kind of just ditches the gore, fanservice and cheap shock moments in favor of having a group of bros just hang out while killing zombies. Deaths actually feel like they mean something because you actually give a shit about the characters and their relationship.

NANI?

also does pic/related count as apocalyptic or alien invasion?

same thing that happened with HandXRed ;_;

I really like Higanjima and 48 days later despite it being pretty shit
it's honestly one of the easiest seinen to read from raws even with only a basic knowledge of japaese

It's made by Korean but it's good enough for me. Dogman is the best.

Magical Girl Apocalypse was wack but a fun ride

>Apocalypse no Toride was a silly one. Can't say I remember my manga well enough to have a favorite apocalypse one.
Basically this. I eventually didn't bother to keep up with it but it was amusing while it lasted. I don't really think I've read much apocalypse manga either, and certainly none that stick in my mind as much as that did. If you just want something goofy and weird for a fun read, you could do worse.

Oh goddamit.

The promised neverland and biomeat néctar. NGE and Gantz are also great.

>hakaiju

What? I thought the translations stopped.

that's because 90% of the pages is Akira chopping things in half

Hotarubi no tomo koro ni, its about a family that gets trapped in Buddhist hell so they have to fight off the weirdest buddhist demons. It's also written by the guy who did Umineko I think

What's this?

Conceptually World's End Harem.
It's just the author is a piece of shit who couldn't execute Marie Antoinette if Charles Hansen told him how and it ended up a political piece about how sex is bad m'kay?

Walking the Void was good.

unironically attack on cock

o-oh

I mean, I don't exactly read these for the plot. I read this sort of thing for the same reason I watch movies like Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre, i.e. to watch a bunch of people die in amusing ways and see just how ridiculous the plot gets.

I like how MC spent the first part of the manga with his dick out. Assert dominance

He's got a very fuckable ass

>with cheap shock value to keep people reading
These stories are usually the manga equivalent to an Exploitative B-Movie. It's all about the grindhouse appeal of tits, blood, and gore with a monster Garnish. And authors usually don't make the cast likeable as everyone is either a backstabbing cunt, trying to be in charge when clearly one person is better at leading than the rest, it's a story where nobody gets out alive in the end, or any number of reasons to keep the body count high.

>alice in borderland
I don't know if it would be a weird apocalypse manga, but it was a solid death game manga which is rare. Had an actual ending and didn't drop the ball like so many others by being all about unlikeable characters dying pointless deaths like so many other entries in the genre.

Gotta say loved how she had such a 180 in character went from slut who'd fuck her way to getting what she wanted, to a hero who sacrificed her life to let everyone escape.

>Gotta say loved how she had such a 180 in character went from slut who'd fuck her way to getting what she wanted
Same
> to a hero who sacrificed her life to let everyone escape.
We never saw the body and there is a sequel, I'm hoping she's still alive.
