Honestly it's a miracle Judai can smile at all by the end of GX, what he went through has yet to be mirror'd by the other protagonists, it doesn't even come close, none of the other protagonists ever alienated all of their friends, started a genocide, then alienated all their friends further out of fear of what they are and fear that even if they wanted to be with them those friends wouldn't feel the same, which was confirmed for him that episode where Fubuki donned Darkness's deck, clothing and mask and begged him to duel him so he could control that power to try and defeat Fujiwara and bring him back to his senses and all of the friends immediately assumed Judai was the one responsible for it and he was dragging them into another mess again, Asuka even slapped him for it.

I'll be honest for once. i had hopes VRAINS could at the very least be enjoyable like Zexal or ARC-V but instead what i got was the most painfully boring Yu-Gi-Oh! ever. First of all the cast, the cast is incredibly small and at the beginning i thought this could be a good thing since it would mean everyone would get their good moments and development. Oh, how wrong I was. The development is rushed even by Yu-Gi-Oh! standards, the characters do shit nothing and die without the viewers feeling a thing only to get revived and die again. I won't say anything about the duels writing cause that depends in the taste but personally, I've found them really boring too. The villains, probably the worst part of VRAINS. We have characters like Bohman with a personality of a rock, Lightning who was evil just because and Haru who can't even be considered a character. I think the only ones who could be considered to be ok are Revolver because memes even if they are forced and Soulburner to some degree but even they are boring at the end of the day. Don't make me start with the main girl who might as well not exist. As for Yusaku, he is easily one of the worst design wise and personality wise. Like, at least make me feel something for the guy be it annoyance or happiness. No, Yusaku is your generic MC with autism and the same stoic face 99% of the time. You can tell how rushed these last episodes have been with how the writers have tried to make us believe Yusaku was always this Nakama kind of guy. And lastly, the plot, the plot is the safest piece of shit I've seen in any Yu-Gi-Oh!. Like some have said already there are no ups and downs because nothing exciting or interesting ever happens. And the worst part is we have to endure these lazy ass low budget Openings and Endings for MONTHS until they are chnaged. I can't wait for Season 3 but at this point the damage is already done. VRAINS will most likely end as the "Oh yeah that happened" of the franchise.

VRAINS is extremely generic. It's okay if you like it, it's not bad, but it's like a 6/10 show and that's okay. Everybody likes Yugioh for different reasons. For me nothing in the past two decades of this franchise has been able to top the time Kaiba had a existential crisis and sacrificed God in order to exert his agency and manifest his own destiny. Personally, I liked Lightning and Bohman. I think they both could have been handled better, but I'll still take them over Darkness, Doctor Faker, or Don Thousand. The duel writing has its moments, but it can be pretty inconsistent. I feel the main problem is that it has things to convey, but chooses to do it in the worst ways.

Yu-Gi-Oh was fucking dead on Yea Forums through Zexal's run. You'd get a thread maybe every few months and it'd usually die before bump limit. It didn't help that it was an extremely low priority for subbers, so subs were often a couple weeks behind.
Then we get Arc-V, and people are hooked the first episode. We get Mono doing quick subs, we get people who hadn't touched the series since DM checking it out then branching out to the other ones, we get people scrambling to find a livestream because they keep hitting the viewer cap.

Zexal I was such an amazing thing to watch. I picked up Ygo because of it back in 2011. Had it not been because of Zexal I wouldn't have become a ygo fan so I'll always love it. And if it helps and I'm honest, the hate for ZEXAL is both real and as you say, a lame joke. At first I really didn't like ZEXAL, but with the time I learned to appreciate it. It seems ZEXAL is a season that you may end like it with the time, aka it grows on you. I admit that watching it for the first time wasn't really fun save for a lot of other things, but then after rewatching it the season was really fun and develops well. But currently the hate for ZEXAL is a lame joke just as hating 5Ds for "CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES". Other than that, some people really don't like childish setting or colorful stuff.

Windy is my partner from now on as for skipping Playmakers school Duel I was sick so evil Windy Booger was cured and redeemed for my past grudges against Soulburners and Playmakers Flame.
