What's so good about anime anyway?

In general? Watching anime soothes me and makes me feel relaxed and comfortable.

Nothing. Anime sucks and it's only entertaining for double digit IQ zoomers and delusional self-hating neckbeards who relive their youth vicariously through the most bland, boring copy&paste protagonists they can find.

Cute girls and lack of jewish nonsense. Mostly cute girls. 3D women don't act like women anymore, so I need my fix.

Cute girls, better / more varied visuals than most western TV shows, and types of shows that wouldn't get off the ground here like SoL shows (Sitcoms ≠ SoL). Some of my favorite shows wouldn't (Code Geass, Hyouka, Girls' Last Tour, Oreimo) or couldn't (Monogatari, Gankutsuou) be down outside of anime.

Content-budget abstraction and linearity allows for a more vibrant market and in turn more interesting, niche and risky media creation. It does a brute force on the standard 90/10 rule, by simply increasing volume.

they tend to mix drama and comedy together better than western programming which only really achieves it in some rare films.
Anime compared to the west, especially in recent years is far more experimental with narratives. There will be a lot you don't like but there may be some stuff that you'd love and no one and no where else will put it to screen.
Once you get used to it top tier Japanese VA's are better actors and more convincingly expressive than almost anything on network TV.
There are bad things about anime
>while narrative ideas can be diverse plot beats and writing is some of the worst in entertainment. There will never be a "Deadwood" level of writing in Anime.
>very minimal content outside of the scope of the target demographic, namely High school.
