Nice chapter. I feel like Kanao and Douma are the opposite side of one another. Kanao does feel but doesn't to express them. Douma on the other hand express a lot of emotions but doesn't feel them. And now in this fight Kanao express real anger for the first time while Douma might start to feel real anger for the first time.

I think Muzan probably used him specifically to pick off dangerous pillars. It's pretty clear that his encounter with Rengoku wasn't an accident, so it would make sense that Muzan told him to use the train demon as bait to lure out the pillar in that region. Daki and Gyuutarou were pretty low key and didn't seem to be trying to draw attention at all on the other hand.

Akaza lived to fight. I think he was Muzan's muscle for a long time, more so than Douma who has a more indirect type of strength.
That does beg the question why Kokushibou wasn't used. It would make sense of Kokushibou to never really be deployed and to always shadow/protect Muzan due to Muzan's cowardly character, but Muzan has been shown to be always solo thus far.

Tanjirou, on the other hand, was able to recognize him by scent from literally a mile away.

A special connection does not translate to slaughtering all of your descendants. The wounds are very nondescript - you couldn't really describe them as either sword wounds or claw marks. And there's absolutely no way Koukushibu would leave anyone alive unintentionally.

It might be just a mere coincidence. The whole theme surrounding the butterfly sisters seems to be empathy. Kanae empathised with the demons and wished to find a way for them to coexist. Shinobu feels resentment towards demons but desperately tries to understand her sister. Kanao was abused to badly as a child she eventually disabled her ability to feel emotions or care.

So it would only be poetry that their opponent would be someone who has no empathy

Irrelevant as in no longer the only character Tanjiro cares about but she's obviously relevant since the whole thing is about her. In Drum House, protecting her is how Zenitsu proves himself to have any merit and in Spider she's literally central to the entire family theme of the arc and is the only reason Tanjiro survives before the Pillars step in to save them. But Muzan isn't the obvious and straightforward answer at all. It's in fact a massive plot hole or based on total assumptions that have never been hinted at in the series. First of all, it is quite clear that whoever killed Tanjiro's family did so accidentally or without Muzan's knowledge that they were anyone special. If it's the former, it's probably a random demon like the ones that kill every other family and if it's without Muzan's knowledge of why they were killed it's probably Koku who is the only one right now with any hint he would know who they are.

Muzan lives multiple lives at once but they are lives with humans, he literally only creates demons to do work for him. It would be completely out of character for him to do things on his own like going into the mountains to kill a random family. He wasn't feeding on them so it's not like this is just how he survives every night or whatever.

I don't think the amount of holes means anything, it just shows who went down with a partner. We know tons of other people went in there that we didn't see fall including Genya, Kanao, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Yushiro and a bunch of fodder hunters. For all we know the entire hunter organization is down there apart from the ones guarding the new head and the people with Nezuko.

Someone needs to do a map like One Piece to show where everyone is. As far as I remember the current groupings are:

>Koku

>Nakime
>UM5

>Genya (maybe he already met up with Sanemi)
>Inosuke
>Tomioka + Tanjiro

I think the main question is who is UM5 and are they as weak as Kaigaku, because that says a lot about who will fight him. They will probably fight Inosuke just to show his growth or something. Nakime's death will presumambly trigger the end of the arc but probably Genya will encounter her (though I could see Genya and Inosuke being reversed in who they fight). That way each of the five new generation will face a different one of the five Upper Moons. And then Koku will face the rest as he hunts them down (Sanemi, Tokito, Himejima) apart from one of them bumping into Muzan + Tamayo (probably Iguro + Mitsuri because I don't think they have the personalities to be interesting against Koku unlike the other three who are all lone wolf types that might have to work together). I think plot armor will leave most of the Pillars with only injuries and not death but one or two of them might die. I think the only demons that will survive the arc are Muzan, Koku and MAYBE Douma but it will be because their encounters are interrupted when Nakime dies. I don't think any Pillars will step in with Nakime or UM5 because none of the Pillars are that weak. I think someone could step in with Douma but it's more likely he either survives or "Shinobu's spirit" helps Kanao. It's also totally possible some people don't encounter anyone but I think that would be disappointing. There's no reason to bring all the kids down unless they do something to prove themselves and there's no reason to bring down all the Pillars unless some of them die.

This. The arc literally had to make an excuse to have him survive already, it wouldn't make sense to then kill him later. He's surviving to the end of the manga though he'll possibly retire.

Tanjiro didn't recognize Muzan's smell as the murderers, Muzan was shocked that the breath of the sun users were still around when he sees Tanjiro's earrings, every time we've seen Muzan he's hiding out with some wealthy or "normal" family and doesn't seem the type to just off into the mountains of bumfuck nowhere, we are specifically not shown the demon who killed his family, Kokushibou has a connection to Tanjiro's family as a breath of the sun user, and we have actually been shown that Kokushibou can use Muzans blood inside him to turn people into demons.

Its either Kokushibou or someone who hasn't been introduced yet. It being Muzan himself just doesn't fit right at this point in the series.

I feel like even you acknowledge he would never do anything himself, because that's literally his entire character. As for the knowledge thing, it's pretty fucking obvious. Nobody would know who they are because they weren't special, killing them accomplished nothing. It would have made more sense to hunt and kill a family like Rengoku's and they never even did that. The demon who killed Tokito's family didn't know who they were either. Muzan could have killed them in a drunken stupor as he was going for a walk, but it would have to be coincidence. He doesn't know that a demon killed them or who they are. He still doesn't know who Tanjiro or Nezuko are. The great tragedy of the family death is clearly that it was either just random or more likely because of how he's being set up, that it was Koku. Koku would potentially know about Sumiyoshi's family based on clearly having ties to the original Breath of the Sun user but he also seems like a type who just does what he wants. The blue spider lily is in the Kamado memories and is probably tied to Nezuko being special so it's just as likely he was looking for that and killed them along the way. The way they were killed suggests it wasn't an assassination, otherwise they would have just made sure they were dead like ripping them in half or whatever and they wouldn't have left Tanjiro alive. Hell, they would have been hunting down all of Tanjiro's aunts and uncles and cousins and all that shit too.

Not only Tanjirou recognized the scent, but Muzan didn't notice the earrings since those were covered.

Muzan's scent would be in every demon and stronger with the more blood of his you have. Koku would have the most of his blood. Also, in that same chapter we see that Muzan simply scratching a person instantly turns them into a demon. If he is the one who killed the Kamado family, they would all be demons and not have been laying there for hours before turning.

He never relates him to the Sun Breath user as a relative, he just recognizes the earring style and doesn't like it because it reminds him of the guy who humiliated him in the past. He would have had the same reaction to Inosuke if he was wearing those earrings. Nobody who was killed at the household was wearing those earrings and as we know, the Sun Breath guy is not Tanjiro's ancestor. So if they were on the hunt for anything, it would be the wearer of those earrings which means they would be hunting Tanjiro in Chapter 1, not his family. Muzan would have been thinking, oh, "there's the guy we were looking for" not be surprised that he existed.

Kimetsu is the only anime I watch since I prefer manga but the guy who voices Tanjiro from my perspective looking in is clearly the most popular thing about the anime. So, unless other voice actors are as popular, I could totally see that boosting the votes. Also, the chart says it's about trending not overall popularity.

Yeah, I'm annoyed in retrospect that the series was struggling in the beginning because it ruins the covers. Muzan shouldn't have been on Vol. 2 and the other characters shouldn't have had to share a cover for the first 4 volumes (also would have been nice if nobody got the cover twice).

I think this will (and should) be the end of the story of Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Muzan. But I'd be game for another series set in the same universe(maybe an ancient past demon thing in China or primitive Japan?)

Personally I'd prefer continuous batches of gaiden chapters by artists like the guy who did the Tomioka one while Wani gets to start a new series more confidently from the beginning. I think there's a whole lot of interesting stuff this manga presents but doesn't actually develop including the history of these characters that are hundreds of years old and just the adventures of some of the present-day characters that aren't really focused on but I think other artists can explore that.
