When you look at the bottom line then you'll notice that the anime hits much the same story beats as the manga does. Sure it lacks little highlights such a the manga's finish of Baba Yaga arc and the bone chilling little vignette that was A Simple Story About Killing a Person. But the anime has it's own cool high water marks and draws the same conclusion in the same clumsy way.

It literally just pulls friendship punch out of its ass halfway through the series. What it does cover is generally done pretty well but it's still missing half the story and I personally liked those chapters when I read them. That and you may hate the manga's ending but it was a million times better than the anime one imo.

The ending is way better in the manga even if they pull some of the same ideals. Rather than going on about "using the power of everyone" while isolated, they legit had assists from tons of characters in taking him down. It was an actual group effort and felt earned even if the ultimate answer was courage.
I feel a lot of people just think of the boob moon thing as being dumb and that taints their memory of it, but really I loved that shit.

I never finished the manga because I fell off before it finished. The anime ending was also bad enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth over the series. I know whether the manga ends better is in contention, but I really only have two questions: Does Maka end up unlocking last-minute weapon abilities? And does she end up fighting the final battle without Soul? That last one is the most important - having her solo the big bad is in opposition to basically everything the series had built up to.

It's been a couple of years so I'll have you remember that Death City, the entire city, turned into a giant robot to smack around the badguys.

The Table of Contents, Noah and the Clowns were lackluster as villains. Even though Arachne's end was absolutely kino in the manga, from a narratologicalmpersective it was definitly the better choice to keep her the main villain as the anime did if you're going to shaft medusa as both manga and anime did. Furthermore the anime took this Chernobyl-esk abandoned city and turned into a bloody theme-park. If I had to choose between that one episode and having the whole Book of Eibon arc animated. I'd have to pause to think about it. Also having Stein actually defect rather than pussyfooting around the issue and then not really doing anything with his character ... I stand by what I said. The anime orignial parts of Soul Eater are underrated.

But Maka and Soul are kind of inseparable in combat since he's her weapon. Even with how much he departed from what the first season was like I still think he was negatively affected by it needing to be Twin Peaks.
