The longer they go on the more tiresome they become, since they are separated from rest of the story. Compare this to Uruka's studying abroad subplot that's an ongoing thing that exists on it's own and comes back from time to time to stir things a bit. All of the solo arc needed to introduce one off characters just to make the cast large enough to convey anything.

Medaka Box didn't get dick from its anime and that didn't stop it

Well, the thing is, their challenges are much deeper and were alluded to in earlier chapters. For fumino, it was peoples' doubts in her that she wouldnt be able to succeed in the field of astronomy or science, only compounded by her father "kicking her out" due to her insistence of pursuing mathematics/science.

Sensei's problem was that she felt that she failed in both aspects of her life, as a figure skater and as a teacher. As the memories of her figure skating days resurfaced, it became a great obstacle due to once again realizing how she gave up one huge part of her life on a whim.

Senpai's problem was... that... she kinda sucks at physics? She was told by her dad to give it up yet he still allows her to do what she says. Most of her chapters she's just happy go lucky and we never really see her confronting any issues, whether with herself or with others. It's only in this arc where her resolve gets challenged, and the solution was to realize that the true clinic was the friends we made along the way. And hell, she didn't even figure that out, it had to be pointed out to her that the kominami clinic is the place where dr kominami is, she doesnt have to feel attached to a location but to be surrounded and to help patients. This is likely the first time we ever see Asumi show any sign of character depth, and it was only informed. We were only told via narration that "ackchually" she was deep in despair and was only putting up a happy front when this was never seen and would never have been seen without the contrived problem from this arc. Then we're also informed that she's finally alright, as if she had any problems or was shown to have any problems before the arc even started. It's all just plain disappointing. It reinforced nothing, she was shown doubting herself just once before Nariyuki decided to inform her of the obvious solution that she can just open and continue her own kominami clinic. It's a pretty shitty way of renewing her resolve.

We've seen that she started making contact with her parents at the end of the arc and witnissed in chapter 106 that she's been moving forward even after her arc ended. If not for her arc she wouldn't have gathered the will to visit Nariyuki's home nor joined the skating team as a couch. Sensei's development wasn't limited to just her arc, it's also happening outside of it.
