How art thou like your Westerners and especially foreigners in anime? Plus is it me or does Anime seemingly has a super huge soft spot for Europeans? Specifically UK, France and Germans.

Sports manga usually get Americans right, Baby Steps, Eyeshield 21, etc, and westaboo artists too. There's usually a good mix of people, and everyone isn't a supermodel or built like a refrigerator. I think the blonde hair thing is just because it's a noticeably foreign trait or it's might be exotic to them.

How are Americans depicted and or represented in anime these days? As far as I can remember back in the Old Days™. Americans would be as stereotypical as possible, be it Bandit Keith-tier stereotype or not, Murricans were in the stereotype level, at least as far as I can remember. But what about today or in the "current days and year(s)"? Sure America and Americans are mentioned but when ever Westerners and or Anglos would appear in an anime it's almost always bound to be Brits, Frics, and Krauts. And rarely would I personally see an American, not even a stereotypical Cletus or Billy from Kansas and Arkansas. Not even a loud chubby tourist who keeps snapping photos.
Also I sometimes personally think if there'd be an anime that would at least reference the United States it would probably be a fictional and alternate setting. In which it may or may not be a similar current modern day 21st century setting and not!America would be at best case scenario be depicted as the land where big, loud and boisterous people live and come from and having alot of guns. Or at worst, not!America is depicted as the "evil empire" or a Police State/Military Junta in which it's government, military and leadership are massive Wilsonians enforcing foreign policy on the underdog countries and or characters and possibly having expansionist agendas to boot. All as some jab at "Americans bad and meany, Japan is good and human boys!"
But anywho. Are there any cases of anime actually depicting Americans, whether as stereotypes or as characters? Especially if such anime does features Westerners who are not just Euros that Japs seem to have a softer side for to the point of fetishising and wanking off to. (Especially in the case of Germany)
There's one just this season I'm pretty sure Carole and Tuesday is supposed to be set in space notAmerica.

I wonder though. By any chance if an anime's setting so happens to be in Okinawa or atleast an episode of an anime that takes place in Okinawa what are the chances of US military bases and the American Soldiers stationed there make an appearance or at least mentioned.
I frankly don't know any anime or manga that's done that. But my guess is a representation of Murricans can be Burger Troopers stationed in Okinawa. I mean that is a common and well known thing about Okinawa after all, the American Military bases and personnel in there.
And headcanon of mine that I just thought of thanks to this thread:
Usually in Isekai it's Commercial Trucks or Truck-kun that runs over hapless schmucks the transport them to a different world. But in Okinawa, while Truck-kun is present there's faulty US Airforce helicopters and V-22 Osprey VTOLs that're crash landing that also help send any unfortunate Joe-schmoe to be Isekai to a different realm.
But yeah, assuming an anime so happens to have Okinawa in an episode. Maybe it could feature some US Troopers from the military bases there to make an appearance or so.
Military themed stuff is where you'll probably see actual references to various countries in the first place. Generally, if it's not a show based on politics or the military, they probably won't even bother to distinguish where a character comes from, beyond generally "Foreign", if any at all. Maybe I'm just not remembering very well, but the only real time something like that comes up that I recall would be a Finnish side-character that only shows up once in the LNs of Hataraku Maou-sama, who was based off of a Finnish guy the author met. On the other hand, I can think of anime such as Asobi Asobase where there's a "Foreign" character, but isn't actually foreign at all, or the blonde chick from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, who was living at an exchange student in an unspecified made-up country.
There are a lot of slavs with blonde hair you retard

Continuing: However, if I had to make a generalization of how Americans are portrayed in anime based on what I've seen, not counting the times when said Americans are either guns or battleships, it would probably be on the sidelines and something the MC and Co probably doesn't want to get involved. For example, MCs on some dumb risky ploy to stop the bad guy, but if they fuck up some really bad things are going to happen, at which point the US Military will be forced to intervene, such as in Ajin and as a looming possibility in GATE.
>Okinawa what are the chances of US military bases and the American Soldiers stationed there make an appearance or at least mentioned. If you haven't seen Blood, almost entirety of the film is set on a US base in Okinawa in the 1960s – they even have American voice-actors speak English. The series, on the other hand, takes place partly in the US, but everyone speaks Japanese; it's also set in the early 2000s and isn't as good.
And headcanon of mine that I just thought of thanks to this thread:
>Usually in Isekai it's Commercial Trucks or Truck-kun that runs over hapless schmucks the transport them to a different world. Kek. Is that still a thing that plagues Okinawa and the US Military Complexes there? I know and am aware user:s referencing the news of USAF aircraft that have crashed or crash landed due to faulty mechanics and maintenance issues.
Though yeah, if some anime Isekai protagonist Main Character who originates from Okinawa did get crushed and squashed by some crash landing USAF aircraft from the nearby US bases. What dimension or world would said Okinawan MC end up in?
Truck-kun often Isekai an anime protags in generally medeival worlds and settings. But what alternate world would Crash Landing USAF Aircraft-chan Isekai an anime protagC to? The late Renaissance period? The earlier industrial era? A WW1 type setting and era?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen at all (I mean, come on, even some unlucky Japanese are naturally blonde), but it's definitely something that's largely increasing in number as you go north and to the east (whereas it's brown or ginger hair in the northwestern regions of Europe).

I don't know with you user but that somehow sounds a but specific. Then again I guess people would tell me a fictional United States of America that so happens to be a Police State and ruled by a military junta would not be too far fetched. Because the real life United States has the FBI, CIA and NSA which gives off the Police State vibes. While the military junta part comes from the fact that the IRL United States has the most powerful military in the world.
And yeah I guess if there was a fictional setting (anime or not) that features a not!United States that is a Police State ruled by a military dictatorship. It might be an okay thing, especially if they're depicted as somewhat bad guys but with a powerful and formidable military and firepower.
>are massive Wilsonians enforcing foreign policy on the underdog countries and or characters and possibly having expansionist agendas to boot.
Though this part I don't get very well. I know the whole foreign policy part but what the hell is "Wilsonian?" Is it an American history thing? Non American here...
>Or at worst, not!America is depicted as the "evil empire" or a Police State/Military Junta in which it's government, military and leadership are massive Wilsonians enforcing foreign policy on the underdog countries and or characters and possibly having expansionist agendas to boot. >Western Anglo Foreigners in anime >Always bound to have blonde hair and blue eyes >Yet there are already characters in anime who're Japanese who are have blonde hair, blue eyes and look like Anglo Westerners >Even Eastern Europeans and or Slavs may be depicted with blonde hair and blue eyes
Honestly I'm somewhat with OP on this one.
If there were to be an anime that does feature Westerners as part of the cast or as Characters. I'd wish that said Western foreigners would not just be Blondy blue eyes but would have a more "diverse" appearance wise. And no, I'm not talking about like blacks or non-whites, specifically what I mean is they'd have the same slight appearances as anime Characters. Like some Murrican or European boy(s) who're tourists or transfer students have the similar type of blue-ish hair or Ashen grey/silver hair that alot of anime boys and guys have. And maybe some Western girls being depicted having pinkish hair, not because they're Sakuras but simply character-wise they're the quirky and or eccentric or wacky types. Basically make them Westerner Characters have the similar type of bright pastel colored hair that anime Characters have and not just blonde while having the recognizable mannerisms of Westerners. Considering alot of anime Characters who're Japanese are apparently natural blondes.
Though I guess realistically, Nips would probably make the effort having Westerners in anime also be atleast redheads with freckles or have a different shade of brown hair that is present with Western Euros and Americans.
I'll never get over this guy's epitaph. Here's the shortened version >Here lies the Cardinal de Richelieu >The good he did, he did wrong. The wrongs he did, he did well
Allow me to be extra clear and specific when I said representation of Murricans can be Burger Troopers stationed in Okinawa.
What I meant by that is when an episode of an anime so happens to have the characters take a vacation break and do some obligatory Beach Episode. There'd be some US Soldiers appearing in be seen in the background as side or background Characters. And no they wouldn't be in combat gear or have their guns, not at all as they'd just be wearing plain army combat uniforms (ACUs) without any of the combat battle gear. As in they'd just be there in the background in like a restaurant scene or as backdrop/background scenes taking where the characters take strolls for the scenery.
Or hey maybe for anime logic humor and tomfoolery. As part of the Beach Episode shenanigans the characters for some reason end up almost being this close to the premises of an (unnamed and unspecified) American military base. Only to be stopped by some Burger Trooper pretty much yelling at them:
>"Hey you snot nosed brats! This is restricted area! You're not supposed to be in here!
All of which in comedic fashion. But hey as retarded as it sounds, that's just my thoughts to be clear.

It comes from the president of the United States Woodrow Wilson in world war 1. He was very internationalist and was the first American president to espouse something similar to the "liberal international order" concept. Wilsonians believe that America should be at the forefront of world politics and intervening everywhere possible to support "democracy". It's not cynical imperialism masked in democratic language, it's just naive idealism. The Bush administration was very Wilsonian as an example.
Ethan Mitchell
Not him, but I would disagree. What happened in the Congo is far more well known than what the other Europeans did because it was disgusting even by the standards of the day. There's also an old Circassian folktale about a tree that grows magic apples that are half-red and half-white and infertile women who eat them give birth to white haired sons or daughters, depending which side they eat.
But that's probably too obscure and they just think it looks cool because they see Russian models with platinum blond hair.
The Dutch were definitely relevant as the only foreigners Japan could legally trade with until the Meiji Restoration (although you still got isolated encounters with British and Russian ships), but after the restoration I guess their place in Japan's eyes was taken over by the French and Germans and British as the supposedly most intellectually advanced nations of Europe.
Levi Diaz

It's not trying to be accurate it's just a way of making it obvious the characters are caucasion because there's no way of telling otherwise. A lot of anime artstyles don't rely on facial features for race.
It's uncute for them, but then again they don't portray themselves with slanted eyes, wall faced, short or with small breasts in anime either.
