Why are newbies so obsessed with this question? I see it on every anime forum I click on. There is no first anime for those of us who grew up with it. There was a lot on TV back in the day and we were very young then, very few of us will remember our first. Growing up there was no distinction in my mind between Japanese and American animation.

Actually I knew which one was American or Japanese. They kept the Japanese names so I always knew they were Japanese.

Heaven's Lost Property was probably my first ecchi, but unfortunately my first anime over all was...

It was in my early teens I was becoming mature enough and started noticing the differences in art styles and "oh these shows are from an entirely different culture, that's why they look different and have funny names." Before then shows like Cardcaptors and Pokemon was just more cartoons.

Anyone giving an answer besides DB/Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon or Speed Racer is either a liar or underage.

Or they don't count shows they saw on TV that they saw before they even knew what anime was.

I lived in Japan for a few years when I was really young so it's possible whatever I saw first was something airing on Japanese TV in the mid 90s.
Dylan Scott

Robert Evans
Vampire Hunter D (the original one). Yes I am a 30 year old boomer.
Elijah Kelly
I remember watching this every week after school. Also Fma, Naruto and all those dumb crayon shin-chan movies
Levi Brooks
Not really, I think there was some pretty obscure ones around too, I remember one about transforming and rainbow flowers really early at the morning.
And come on this question can pretty much translate to what anime you saw first out of TV(he´s my master for me I think), with pokemon still out there even young ones would have that to say that, and thats no fun

I was born in Okinawa so it was probably some baby show but the first anime that I took seriously was Naruto
