There is no consensus on Monster except maybe that Anna is a 10/10

overrated shit

That if you don't watch it you're a faggot. If you watch it, you could've spent that time more wisely. If you watch it and liked it, you're an edgy faggot.

And if you watched it and didn't like it then why the fuck did you continue watching it, you stupid faggot?

I finished this yesterday, I loved it until the ending.

Ending hit me like Twin Peaks season 3 but without the impact entirely.

"Why the fuck is it ending on this note?"

Lungen ended up being such a good part of the story, he just wanted to share a beer with someone in the end.

20 eps in, why is this an anime and not a live action tv show?

Pretty much this for me as well. There were also some unsolved plot points that bother me. Like why was Johan dressed as Anna as a child? It was never explained really, and it only serves to deceive the viewer into thinking that it was Johan who got taken into the red rose mansion. I'm a bit unsure about my opinion of it as a whole, but I do think it's a good show regardless of its flaws.

ITT: Overrated shit

His mother dressed him like a girl to make people think she only had a girl and not two children

Oh, makes more sense then

Anime Kino

I only read the manga. Don't know why anyone would sit through 70 episodes of bullshit rather than reading the manga, which is almost certainly quicker. Going off chapter length it averages a little over 2 chapters per episode, which seems like too little. That being said I don't remember much about it at all.

Because it's based on a manga and they wanted to make an anime of it.

Loved it, gets memed on a lot but does seem to get genuine hate at times

Open borders propaganda, it's trash.

great characters, but the pacing is oddly slow at times and the plot takes so many twists and turns that it detracts from the overall message

it's still good and worth a watch, just not the flawless masterpiece many hype it up to be

Overrated shit

propaganda's pretty extreme lol, it's more about the crazy as fucking blonde kid killing everyone i thought.

Are there things of the similar genre that aren't overrated? Genuinely curious as I need more things to watch now that I'm done with this show.

Fuck the only part I remember was Dr tenma saying

>tomorrow will be a good day
Maybe he is right.

Personally I'm just really slow at reading manga so for me watching the anime is quicker. And I also enjoy the voice acting and soundtrack, which are not present in the manga.

>le poor turks only want to live in germoney
>muh racism

had some of the basic bitch shit you'll expect from media. I could've sworn the Kinderheim shit was a communist endeavor in the show, yet I constantly see it called a "nazi-experiment"

youtube.com/watch?v=mUuUoJyeklo

This is the best scene in the anime, prove me wrong.

>looks like tenma
>voice acted by tenma
>has the same personality as tenma
>is a Doctor like tenma
>has a warm heart as tenma

You can't make this shit up.

salright. it's kinda slow

grimmer and lunge are the best characters

>english Dub
I couldn't last more than a minute. Mr Grimmer does not sound like a bad Keanu Reeves impression. Fuck these hacks

It's not really what the story is centered around. That's more so what The Baby and the 4 dudes were about if you ask me. And they had maybe 30-40% appearance time throughout this whole thing.

That dude attempting to assassinate Peter Capek, now if that's what you're referencing I still can't really call that propaganda inducing.

He was personal with Peter Capek, it was deeper than race issues.

>And I also enjoy the voice acting and soundtrack, which are not present in the manga.
Not an insult specifically to you but I fucking hate this line of reasoning and people bring it up every time there's something where people are discussing anime vs manga. It immediately makes me stop taking the person who posted it seriously.

What would you say is the overall message? To me it seemed like Johann was justifying his crimes by his perceived upbringing and then ended up with an identity crisis upon learning he'd been deceiving himself.

My only problem with that is how they stated so much times that he's a impossibly charismatic and brilliant person but in the end he's just an autistic faggot wanting to see the world burn.

I didn't saw any charisma or cleverness in his speeches.

what anime

I'm not saying that those two are things that make the anime superior to the manga, I'm only saying that those are part of the reason I chose the anime over the manga. I haven't read the manga so I can't really say which of them is better anyway, so I won't go into that argument.

It's overrated shit

The story was about Johan trying to turn Tenma(the most pure person he had met) into a killer and prove that his nihilistic outlook is indeed correct and there is no hope for continuing life trying to be a virtuous and kind human.

It's pretty great

>What would you say is the overall message?
Everyone has a monster inside of them, some have a greater monster than others and it's the job of adults to repress the monsters inside the yonger generation the most possible through love

Guillermo Del Toro wanted to make an HBO adaptation but it never got off the ground

This, but for every show.

that's the meme

Why are you on a thread you don't like?

One of my favorites. It's not perfect, there are some plot coincidences and some silly stuff Johan perfectly imitating Anna{/spoiler] but considering how long it is, it's pretty impressive how consistently good it stays.

Don't like the extra book he wrote after. I think it takes away from the ending of the anime which I think is pretty fantastic. Never read the manga but it's on my list.

That's just Peter, user. He hates every thread, but not as much as he hates himself.

Ahh. Yeah. I didn't realise it was so simple, though it feels a bit illogical to me.

This seems like a pretty interesting interpretation, and I could see it buried under there, though I never quite picked it myself.

What did you like about the ending?

texhnolyze has "monster", the thing that drives humans doing bad things

But the book doesn't really add anything important that would ruin the ending. We still don't know shit about where Johan fucked off.
I did kind of shit myself at the end though.

His charisma comes from him understanding the mental flaws of people and exploiting them. He doesn't have a strong manly charisma. It's a cold charisma.
When he doesn't silver tongue people his speeches just make him sound like a completely mentally ill man.

Urasawa seems to have a general problem with endings. To 20th Century Boys he wrote a few extra chapters as 21st Century Boys since the original was so fucking unstatisfying. Billy Bats ending shouldn't have been 3 chapters but three volumes. He always keeps on adding new characters and plot points without really resolving the rest. That said Monsters ending was better then the other ones, but it still seems as if something is missing.

Everything. but of course mostly the fact we never find out Johan's real name, the fact Tenma saves him once more and the fact he just leaves the hospital. The open endedness leaves so much room for interpretation which I think is the strongest part of this show.

I might be wrong but I think the book says that he eventually integrates with society and even gets a job which I don't really like. I much prefers the open endedness of the anime ending.

>Anna is a 10/10
She's for cuddles only, she went trough enough.

The fuck ? Don't remember that

Tenma saving him is what makes the show so great, that eerie atmosphere that never leaves the show, not even at the end.

Hell the last time we see Tenma is when he leaves Johan's room and walks out into this empty and kinda darkish hospital hallway. Nothing is heard but his footsteps. Pretty eerie.

The part where she befriend that young mother just to hear her bring drowned to death was fucking dark.

It's definitely up there

Orelmo tier garbage.

Literally where does this rumor that Another Monster says Johan is living a good normal life come from? Every thread someone mentions this. Please share this edition of the book with me.

20CB is better

bump

room temperature IQ: the post

I always loved Monster's ending myself, mostly because the characters get wraped up with Johan's fate being left to be decided by the viewer, of the three possibilitites (continued killing, stopped killing, commited suicide) all seeming well within his character

Kinderheim 511 is never called a "nazi experiment", you're probably confusing it with the shit Capek and Bonaparta did

Fuck off Lang

boring shit for pretentious people

Whatever one thinks about the quality of the show, at least Madhouse adapted the full manga and gave it enough episodes. Who even does that nowadays except SHAFT?

>nowadays
Monster aired from 2004 to 2005.

Clorox

Do I read or watch this?

I've been watching Monster recently, but for a while I've put off watching the last couple episodes.
I don't think the series needed to be as long as it was, I've struggled to remain invested in the plot because I just don't think Johan was as intelligent and charismatic a villain as they made him out to be.

Overrated shit. Episode 39 is laughably bad

I love Urasawa for Manben and I like his art, but I don't like any of his manga.

It is...
