Having a friend over tomorrow who works in the animation sector (2d) and I want to showcase some good stuff. I set some aside already: >Cencoroll >Robot Carnival >Wings of Honneamise >Millenium Actress >The Tatami Galaxi >Tokyo Godfather >Tekkonkinkreet >Ergo Proxy >Planetes >Perfect Blue
Among those, which one would be the most interesting to an animator? Talking as a novice here. Pic related.
If he's a professional animator, why wouldn't he know most of thsoe? Better show some really obscure hentai only found on a VHS copy acquired in a garage sale
Dominic Baker
Forgot to mention, I selected some I didn't see. Redline is a good idea though, definitely watchable again, thanks.
I don't know why, but while she has read a lot of manga she hasn't watched most classics. Plus, most hentai animation sucks.
Jack Allen
Then show her Perfect Blue
Brandon Sanchez
Is it for the rape scene or genuine advice? Sounds solid though, thanks. I was very much impressed with Paprika, animation wise.
Levi Anderson
>anime that doesn't look like anime = good >anime that looks western = extra good Why are these charts always like this?
Have you actually seen any of them? Most look exactly like anime, and the only one that "looks western" would be Big O but that is because it intentionally draws from the batman animated show.
Dominic Foster
No, more than half of them distinctly don't look like the typical anime's art style. A lot of them are good shows, granted, but a lot of them are probably selected because their art style doesn't look like your average anime. Also in terms of genres it vastly overrepresents serious dramas to the exclusion of other genres.
Julian Ramirez
I actually did, also > the only one that "looks western" would be Big O
Last Exile's second half is basically an exemple of how NOT to animate. Too bad, first half was good.
Ian Rodriguez
*serious dramas and action shows
Ryder Flores
AKA Toonamishit
Gavin Reyes
The only anime on that list that don't look like anime would be >Ergo Proxy >The Big O >Genius Party >Jin Roh >Kaiba >katanagatari >Kemonozume >mononoke >tekkon Kinkreet >Tokyo Godfahters The rest looks like anime.
Hudson White
>she
Thread discarded. Women don't know shit about shit. Your most gifted and brilliant woman operates on the intellectual level of a dead possum. Throw her in the garbage.
Jeremiah Sanchez
Most of the show you listed look like anime. Just because anime aesthetic has changed with time doesn't mean they don't look like anime. I would only agree with Ergo Proxy and Tokyo Godfather, don't follow the typical anime aesthetic. And neither of them look western. I have no idea what kind of western shows you are watching.
Sebastian Campbell
Eureka Seven definitely have some high animation standard.
Grayson Nelson
Sorry, you missed a bunch like Monster, Black Lagoon, Baccano, and basically every Kon work on there (seriously, why is everything he did on there?) If people commonly compare an anime to a live-action show or wonder why it was even animated at all since it would probably work better in live-action, it's not representative.
Jace Phillips
How exactly does Monster not look like anime. Here is the second picture on Google after searching "Monster anime" It looks like an anime made in the 00s but it still look like anime.
The exact same is true for Baccano and Black Lagoon. Exactly how do they not look like anime? What exactly looks like anime too you if these don't?
Anime is just japanese animation no matter how it looks.
Jaxson Kelly
Obviously but there is a overall shared aesthetic within the medium, even if not every anime follows it, that while it have changed with time is still recognizable, especially when it comes to character design. There is a big difference in how for example Gundam 0079 looks compared to like Haruhi, but you can still see how something like Haruhi could be derived from the design of Gundam
Zachary Lee
Just look at Carole & Tuesday
Benjamin Kelly
I am not sure if you are agreeing or not. But I would say that Carole and Tuesday, while obviously has it own style, still looks anime more than anything else.
Joshua Rodriguez
No, solid advice. Perfect Blue is almost perfect storywise, animation, music, everything
Luis Garcia
Everything (Or at least most of) Shinichiro Watanabe's or Satoshi Kon's stuff is western styled, which is one of the reasons i'm not a big fan of them, so what's your point? Also, i understand western media going so much to shit that even people who liked it are coming to anime so it makes sense having western style stuff to appeal to this group, but fuck, if i'm watching anime i want to watch something that looks like anime (And that's a pretty broad thing), otherwise i would be watching normieflix or something.
William Davis
Thanks user.
I was still trying to decide between the one I chose though.
Thanks again then! I've been meaning to watch it for the longest time.
Perfect blue it will be then, good night Yea Forums, you've been good to me.
Austin Brown
>normie
Grayson Reyes
Yeah this guy is probably a underaged weeb that think anime is the ultimate form of art.
