Darling in the FranXX is a time flop. It sold well, but its fanbase is dead, and people don't even remember it anymore. It was generic, melodramatic, and boring. It was a corporate project (it was also shilled by its producers A1 and CR) that represented how you can play it safe to make sure your show sells.

There are shows (such as Evangelion, Madoka Magica, etc.) that can be considered timeless successes because not only were they successful, but they still have a sizable fanbase, and people still remember them as one of the masterpieces of anime. FranXX has none of these things.

Because I felt pranked watching it, and it's one of very few shows where I want my time back. It didn't even shit the bed halfway through. It was like explosive, volatile diarrhea that somehow grew in power until the end.

"Time flop" makes no sense. Less than 1% of all franchises are remembered a decade after ending and of those still remembered less than 1% keep making money.

Also nearly none of those franchises were made with the aim of being something that will keep selling merch and getting references forever.

The problem is the final episode itself is directed horrendously. Like episode 13 and 15 this should have been a Hiro and Zero Two episode. Instead the majority of the episode is spent following how wonderful the peanut gallery's lives are, at this point the most worthless part of the show. Hiro and Zero Two barely feature in the final episode, except for a badly animated low budget action sequence where they both die. While everyone gets an elaborate epilogue, Hir02 just get a teaser that maybe their sudden bittersweet end may not be so bad, but it's weightless. It's completely egregious that a show revolving on a love story ends like this.

Hachi is paired with her because he is familiar with her original personality and can alert the Doctor if she breaks the conditioning a second time. Papa and the organization spent an indeterminate amount of time hellbent on trying to make humans not interested in reproducing and Nana was the first to awaken from the programming, Squad 13th was rolled out as a testing group to see if these instinctual urges would manifest on their own en mass or if they had to be programmed back in. Franxx was looking towards a future where he got rid of APE and wanted society to repopulate itself on its own, having the population WANT to grow is essential to that goal.

They were introduced solely to show how much of a dead end the original human population was. The old woman could barely maintain a conversation without nearly dying from the stress of thinking for herself and the old man was in the next dimension with his dopamine machine. It showcases that the adult population isn't some font of knowledge for the parasites to exploit or rely on, they're extinct but they're not 6 feet under yet. The Parasites will have to trail blaze their own ethics and values.

That's the specific definition, but there's a broader connotation that's the subjective feeling of someone being "stolen" which includes crushes and even family members. DITF makes obvious allusions to relationshit with the piloting, it's no coincidence most of the main characters end up piloting with the person they had feelings for or would end up with. MitsuKoko also isn't the girls' pairing for nothing because it's reminiscent of chick stories. A good girl, sweet and meek, stuck in an amicable but unsatisfying relationship, finds someone she's actually interested in, may involve her doing something taboo as part of development. Just those stories might involve actual cheating because there's an actual romantic relationship, while Kokoro is "unfaithful" for breaking a stupid childish promise to a guy she wasn't in a romantic relationship with.
