I personally really liked it but I can see why fans of the original didn't.
The characterization is better, but less attention is given to the fights at the start so some considered it too slice of life.
However, it's a solid era once it finds its footing.

I've been really interested in what marketing looks like at Bushi. You can tell it's more than just some drunk fish throwing darts on a board, their ads with google way back in the day lined up too perfectly with one of the low points in yugioh, early Zexal. The entire reason why I gave this a shot was because I was just getting tired of the back to back fuckery from the meta lists, I absolutely hated dino-rabbit, inzektors, and chaos dragons.

They also announced EX soon after Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution and put out a trailer first.

There was 2 beach episodes and a beach artwork during the OG series and he wasn’t shirtless in any of them and he hasn’t been shirtless in the reboot either so far in comparison to Chrono who got a lot over the years.

There's good and important episodes even within the weaker parts of G.
Outside of GZ, it's a show that builds on itself with mostly(fucking Miguel) consistent and long running character arcs

And there are bad and unimportant episodes within the stronger parts of G.

What would semi-auto mean?

Some stuff is automated and some isn't. Basically it means that your opponent can very quickly do random shit and cheat if you aren't paying attention.

The game tells you what stuff is and isn't automated and it's very easy to tell if something's wrong.
You can also just ask them and if they refuse to explain, just leave.

VG gets to that point, but it's a bit of a build up before SERIOUS BUSINESS no matter what season you watch. Like the OG show doesn't start getting more serious until like ~30 episodes in.

It's a complete story but also goes in on the card game the hardest out of all of the entries.

It's a re(imagining/boot/make) that's based on the manga. Currently 53 episodes and is going into completely original content.

Even if you aren't into the card game, both starting points will provide information on how to play the game at the start so you won't lose track.
Just note that a lot of changes were made recently so if you ever want to check out the game, the 2018 anime has a way more updated "tutorial" portion

I could see that happening. Aichi and Misaki are off dealing with the major plot/Kourin stuff and Naoki carries the rest of the losers and his girlfriend Maki to victory

Leon's role is probably going to be really minor as he isn't even able to compete in the Koshien and has no relation to the background plot

I guess. He does have PSYqualia though and we don't know anything of his backstory in this iteration. He could still be of some relevance to the plot.

Its not about whether or not it panders to OG or G, its that it gives up on the longevity.

Longevity isn't a positive thing when the power creep becomes so ridiculous. You would need a successor series that isn't connected in any way to the previous without making it awkward, and a reboot is just easier to deal with.

The power creep was because of the reboot
The massive jump caused by GBT13 was because they had it in mind and went all in knowing they would reboot the game

That seems more like a case of power creep being a problem far earlier than GBT13. It wouldn't make sense to reboot if everything was going fine.

In October there was an article about how Kidani went to America earlier and looked at the stuff they were doing with their TCGs and how they rotated.
November hits, and suddenly Ultimate Stride comes out and the rapid creep that was faster than anything before hits

It doesn't make sense if they were always going to have Premium format though. If they were going to discard all pre-V cards that's fine but you're still shooting yourself in the foot by supporting a format with all these extremely powerful borderline broken cards and that leads to the mess that is current Premium.

Premium may have been a last minute decision
All we know is that the rotation was clearly in the cards and a relatively sudden decision considering all the clear rewrites and dropped plot points in GZ.
Bushiroad is also prone to making incredibly risky decisions, seen most recently with introducing crossover series to Buddyfight

Bermuda is just shameless otaku pandering of the worst kind and I absolutely despise it. I don't really have a problem with other waifu clans because they have a more refined aesthetic and theme to them than "moe idols". Idol culture is disgusting. The worst part is there is 0 need to make Bermuda absurdly strong because it will sell regardless. There's nothing more embarrassing for me in this game than losing to those kinds of cards and I refuse to play that kind of deck no matter what. All I appreciate for Bermuda is that it helps the game sell but that's about it. Bushi does not need to make them broken every damn time, playable is fine.

There's a huge difference between being strong and making it so only 2/24 clans are playable.

Because they tend to be really fucking strong. Standard is a mess right now because of how good they are. The trial deck alone is better than a solid 3/4ths of the clans. They get cards that absolutely break conventions of the game, like Liselotte being completely free advantage and being able to be called as a grade 1, or having access to potential 8 G guard enablers because 4 heal 4 Sandy, or being able to first stride even if they ride to G3 first because of Trois for nothing more than 1 CB, or having rear guards that attack for 28k+ for zero cost other than having 5 rear guards.
There is nothing wrong with clans being good, but almost every time a new bermuda set drops they dominate the game. It's doesn't lead to healthy formats with how hard they get pushed, because in order for clans to compete with them, that's now the bar that's set. I say this as someone who runs Raindear and Coral and unironically liked Colorful Pastrale (until the end at least).

What is a Thing Saver?

As someone that's been going through G the past few months and working on the final arc Z now, I think it's pretty good and okay. It seems to struggle on whether or not their demographic is children or adolescence, because one season is slice of life card fights then the next has the main character see somebody die right before his eyes, swearing, violence, and so on. But then I wouldn't consider myself a good judge on anime either and mostly turn my brain off to the plot or else I would've stopped watching this long ago.

Also Shion's voice actor is better when he's being a spoiled, self absorbed rich boy instead of a goody two shoes.

Like, Standard Cecilia is basically her Captain Stride with complete loss of the same name call and Shirayuki gained the ability to recover its copies after its attack fails to hit. Then you got Alfred becoming a Blaster Blade whore which really only started with his strides.

I noticed that each one was about 7 sentences each with a very clear structure.
It felt as if I was also throwing in filler or things from outside the episode as well as my weird early obsession with how the battle scenes are shown. (G still wins in in this regard somewhat)
Maybe I'd just do a small summary and then "the good and the bad" of the episode
I don't know and maybe option 3 would be for the best as it might get more anons involved

Messiah isn't simply "strong" right now it is flat out busted and a full league ahead of any other standard deck. Even taking LOLMONEY into account there is no excuse for the damn thing to be as stupid as it is as the set already had a titular Vanguard card making an emergence.
And +15k is cancerous enough to not be warrented to something swept under the rug. That's 2 heal triggers and when combined with Force Markers it only gets fucking worse. Especially beforehand you have to get hard baited out by the 23-ish power rears and the Vanguard who inevitably will have all things put on it when you don't guard that will be followed up by those 30+ power rears.

Messiah is literally everything the Force gift should not have gotten as it just makes the whole gift into a better Accel.

Ah there's our new protect marker! So Aichi will coach the inexperienced StuCo and help them prep for the fight. Well that's nice, it helps even the playing field a bit while also simultaneously giving the club some practice in a real setting. And they'll be introducing the new gift markers in the next episode in what looks to be a good old fashioned TUTORIAL EPISODE. Overall, really great start to the season!

What's with G's overall tone inconsistency, or is it the dub's doing? First two seasons were slice of life, then Stride Gate had everybody swearing and implied dying, G Next dialed it back only for Z to embrace full edge. Also if the queen of Megacolony offered you an opportunity get 'eaten by her' and bring about a bunch of new children, would you?

The plot of GZ hinged on Chrono forgetting how to play against/with Link Joker when he already figured out optimal strategies last season.
He just randomly forgot how to juggle Lock then turns around and plays Messiah like a pro 10 episodes later

It's not just the dub. G's tone is on a curve because at the end of the day, everybody in the cast just wants to have fun but jerks keep ruining that possibility

Is there a path to upgrading a budget deck or is it a case of having either a full VR deck or a budget deck with no in between? I'm interested in GP a whole lot but I can't really afford 4x of each Ezel currently

GP has a budget Garmore build that can be pretty decent.

Ezel doesn't really have an inbetween since the entire G3 lineup and a good chunk of the G2 lineup outside of Vivanne is dedicated to the Ezels.
Best to just build Garmore

Kourin almost screwed the club over in OG though because she told Misaki to fuck off. Despite at that point in the series Misaki competing and winning in both Nats against Asaka and getting to the finals of the Asia Circuit. And yet Kourin treats her like a novice who doesn't care about the game.

Yeah, and when Misaki stopped being hesitant and decided to join, Kourin still told her to go away, saying that she was getting off on people needing her, driving Misaki off yet again, and giving Aichi an ultimatum that if he asks Misaki again, she bails.
It all just makes Kourin look like a massive bitch.

The manga/reboot handled this issue so much better.
It made sense that Kourin was being a bitch because it was Aichi chasing after an in-universe literal who this time.
Misaki was never shown to be strong or even play the game so of course everyone else considered it a bad endeavor.

Itou is just the guy who came up with the story for this season. The guy actually scripting all of it is the Gao-era Buddyfight guy.

This is still very suspicious to me. Just a month earlier we got an announcement saying Koshien runs until March 2020. Now they're pulling this on us. I really don't know what to believe right now. And I really don't want a new protagonist right now either. They need to make this series as long as the original/G before moving on.

They didn't exactly say it was running until March 2020, only that year two would go until March 2020.
Few people remember that they actually showed off a placeholder for a second poster on the year two calendar next to the current season.

I think it's more or less implied that the 2019 season encompasses the current anime arc. They even changed the labeling of it to Project Vanguard 2019 to differentiate from season 1.

But general guidelines are that you want cards from the current V-series sets(V-BT02 and V-BT04 for Palemoon)
