Yo, I was thinking: Oda's been very clear on limiting One Piece's technology, right? Most of it works on snails, the phones and cameras and dials and so on, or else is driven by something similarly weird like Franky's cola-powered stuff. Vegapunk made lasers but they're derived from how Kizaru's devil fruit works, apparently.

There's no electricity-based tech in widespread use. Oda's really gone out of his way to establish that. We see stuff that looks like it would be electricity-based sometimes, wires and so on, but that's mostly in the anime. In the manga, from all I can remember, it's always left open that things could work in some weird non-electrical way. Gas lights, steam, et cetera. The only place we've seen electrical tech is on the moon. Where, apparently, they lost the ability to generate the stuff a long time ago, like hundreds of years, and had to abandon it. Assuming they didn't rely on the one convenient devil fruit that could do it, where would they have gotten electricity? Given that most tech in One Piece comes from an organic source? What creatures generate electricity, and have some weird ancient connection to the moon?

I present to you, Yea Forums, that at some point in the past the minks were enslaved to produce electricity on a large scale. The sulong transformation is a way of getting more power out of them at night, when it's needed most, and they have this idea in their culture of "looking forward to the dawn" because that's when they'd be allowed relax a little. If this is true, then the strawhat crew are probably eventually going to run into technology that needs electricity to function, on some ancient ruin or when they go to space or something. And they'll need to have a mink with them.

Other thing that makes me doubt Pedro's is actually what happened later. It did hit people, Carrot gained some resolve thanks to that, and there was a little moment for her and Sanji at the end of the arc... but before this chapter even ended we were back to usual shenanigans. And everyone was goofying around the next chapter/day as if nothing happened. If Oda really meant it as something big, I think it should be a bit more of a life-changing event, at least for Carrot. I mean, how did everyone else (SH or not) react to their mentor's sacrifice? It devastated them and set the course of their lives from there on.

Because they did act competently in the Water 7. Oda set up something different. Just like Doffy acting like Bond's villain or worse after explicitly saying he won't underestimate SHs (and actually not doing it at the start of the arc). Even Crocodile took them more seriously. The same thing happened again with Katakuri (it only got saved by merienda chapter being legit funny). When Oda keeps dumbing down his antagonists (or having them go for "let's have some fun" excuse) to give protagonist a chance, it's hard not to see it as a major flaw.

The problem isn't that they aren't "edgy" in EL you brainless ESL. The problem is that they were serious assassins in W7 and the Sea Train, and then did a complete 180 during EL. They might as well have been completely different characters.
And it's not like they have the excuse of going from their undercover personas to their real one.

That being said I didn't hate Fishman, I just felt like there wasn't enough twists in it to keep me engaged.

When you think about it, Doffy was kind of a shitter considering how grandiose his ambitions were. Like Bounce Man mopped the floor with him, if Luffy didn’t have a time limit, Doffy would have been fucked and Dressrosa could have been a shorter arc. Then one mini arc later, the Cracker is able to outlast and injure Bounce Man, Big Mom slaps it aside, and Katakuri, while injured by it when he was flustered, when he was calm he was able to deal with it easy.

Vivi finally ending the war.
Luffy ringing the bell.
Luffy smashing Nami's room.
These storyline peaks had proper climaxes in which every single theme the arc has picked up clash together and are properly resolved. It all comes full circle, strengthening the solidity of the arc as a whole. And while it had emotional moments, Enies Lobby lacked an emotional direction. Robin wants to join back before the fights begin, Robin gets saved before the final fight, the fights lacked the nuance and meaning they used to carry in previous iterations, it has a definite lack of themes and cohesion.
Overall, definitely one of the worst One Piece arcs.

Lucci just felt like a hurdle more than anything. Before he was even defeated, everything had already been resolved and everyone was just waiting for Luffy to move on. It wasn't a proper peak on the level of say Skypeia, where by Luffy beating Enel AND ringing the bell at the same time, he is chaining all events and themes brought up during the entire arc.
Plus, he didn't even stand for anything anyway, as Lucci admitted he just followed orders to kill people and not because he had a sense of justice himself.

They still had to escape and had no way to do so, just because Robin was out of the cuffs doesn't mean the arc was over. Merry saving them is the climax, Lucci is just the gong bell showing off that the climax was about to begin.

Their whole bit was proving to Robin that they would and could take on the entire world to keep her, and Lucci and Enies Lobby represented (well not represented, they literally were) the weight of that promise. Up until Merry's rescue (where Usopp literally yells out how it's part of the crew and just as willing to sacrifice itself and protect them, hey what was a big thing in Water 7), they were in hell without any way to keep the promise they had made to her.

Hahaha no. the emotional climax was when Luffy asked Sogeking to burn the WG's flag and thus showing Robin that they would take on the whole world for her. Anything happening after is just hurdle.

The main reason behind Robin's actions in W7/El was her being afraid of the crew abandonning her once she became too much of a burden to carry. Once Luffy declared the war to the whole world for her sake that fear ended.
Main reason behind Vivi's actions was to prevent the civil war from happening or at least stop it, which didn't happen before the end of the arc.
