Is Sailor Moon worth getting into as an adult or has it aged badly? I remembered it being fun when I was a kid.

Should I watch the OG or that Crystal one. Is Crystal a new series or is it more like what Dragon Ball Z kai was for DBZ

Venus >/= Mars > Jupiter > Moon >>>>>>>>>>>>> Mercury

Aged like raw milk

I tried getting into it but it's really too dated. Just watch Cardcaptor Sakura or Doremi if you want to watch traditional mahou shoujos.

Crystal for maximum QUALITY.

Only literal underages have problem with a series being "too old". Their attention span is shitty, so they can't handle sitting through an entire episode.

Pathetic.

It's not about being old. Plenty of old shows still hold up. Sailor Moon just doesn't and was only good because it was the only thing people into this kind of anime watched.

This but it turned into smelly cheese

Crystal is the "canon" series because it follows the mangas plot.

OG is heavily relying on the nostalgia factor. Back then it was great because of the SoL elements and the fact you came home to watch it every afternoon after school. But it has way too many episodes and it makes them much more childish and with less development than in the manga.

It's cute and relaxing. It has enough funny situations to keep you watching.

It is not even that long for a mahou shoujo series

It was great at the time, but the mahou shoujo genera has been explored and twisted and deconstructed so many times that it doesn't really hold up these days.

Its only good as a resource citypop album-covers and music videos now

for me, it's the OG stuff that stands up really well, and then it tapers off hard.
also chubiusa a shit.

Sailor Moon holds up. I have fun rewatching random episodes all the time.

It's Crystal that's shit, and the manga is boring too by extension. Toei saved the series.

Dumb nigger, all those shows "parodying" and "deconstructing" Sailor Moon are a completely different demographic. You're comparing 5 hour late night comedy or drama shows to a 200+ episode SoL show for families. They're completely fucking different. Also, Sailor Moon is great and you zoomer niggers don't deserve something so fun and well drawn.

I didn't watch the original, but I can say that Crystal was objectively awful and outright disrespecful with a series that was so popular

It's my favorite TV show, but lots of people who've never watched it or only seen a few dubbed episodes like to run their mouths on Yea Forums.
You've never seen Sailor Moon. Stop watching dubbed anime.
>only good because it was the only thing people into this kind of anime watched
What? During Sailor Moon's run there were several other shoujo anime being produced. What are you even talking about retard?
>OG is heavily relying on the nostalgia factor.
I know several people who watched it first as adults and love the series.
>it has way too many episodes
I wish there were 100 more.
> the mahou shoujo genera has been explored and twisted and deconstructed so many times that it doesn't really hold up these days
Deconstructions usually suck, and Sailor Moon is a completely different type of show anyways. Or do you really think actual trash like Mahou Shoujo Site, Ikusei Keikaku, or Gen'ei Taiyou are better than Sailor Moon? If so, I pity you.

>What? During Sailor Moon's run there were several other shoujo anime being produced
It was still the only or one of the only ones a lot of people watched.

Nowadays it's just a waste of time. It doesn't have particularly great animation, well structured episodic plots with good drama or anything really beyond the aesthetic. If you don't already know all the girls from your childhood it's a real drag getting to the good stuff.
The only reason I could see new adult fans enjoying it if they don't know anything about the genre, are into the aesthetic that much or really like the idea of getting into Sailor Moon because of what it represents.

>It was still the only or one of the only ones a lot of people watched.
Just stupid Americans like you. Also, you never watched Sailor Moon, because the dub is a different show.
>It doesn't have particularly great animation
Like most anime.
>well structured episodic plots with good drama or anything really beyond the aesthetic
Blatantly false.
>If you don't already know all the girls from your childhood it's a real drag getting to the good stuff
They introduce all the girls, you don't need to know them. Really though, go back to Yea Forums, since it's clear you've never actually watched the show.

OP here. should I use a filler guide or something? because with did remember it being a monster/lesson of the week type format

surely not all of them are plot relevant

Mars was my favorite I think she gave me a foot fetish desu

I'm not even American, I've seen a little as a kid but barely remember anything. What I know about it is from trying to watch it subbed after wanting to get more into mahou shoujos. Most of the early episodes just outright suck and have the aforementioned issues and the later episodes I skimmed through didn't seem much better.
I'm not saying the show is terrible. But fans should realize the flaws of their series and don't blame everything on short attention span. CCS and Doremi are great from episode 1 and are beautifully structured. In comparison Sailor Moon just isn't worth it just because some oldfags say it got great stuff.

>trashing Gen'ei
I bet your nutbladder isn't even imploded.

If you're going to watch Sailor Moon for the plot, don't bother. I'm going through it for the first time now, and I love the OG series, but I love it because I enjoy watching the characters deal with their daily struggles.

>aged badly
Barely anything "ages badly". You just get bad shows and good shows the same with any decade. If it's bad now then it was bad back in the day, and if it's still good now then it was good then too.

I wouldn't say that time will make shows obsolete, but I do feel like a lot of old shows do lose some of their appeal because they were made with "catching it on TV once a week" in mind, while everything is now on-demand and preferrably "binge-watched", when the shows were made with a different viewing experience in mind
I've noticed that episodic shows don't bother me as much if watched seasonal, but if I have to catch up or if I'm watching something thats already completed, watching multiple episodes in a row will feel like a bit of a waste of time if not every episode advances the plot

>I'm not even American
You clearly are, dumb nigger.
>Most of the early episodes just outright suck and have the aforementioned issues and the later episodes I skimmed through didn't seem much better
So you don't actually like mahou shoujo anime at all? Doremi and CCS are no better than Sailor Moon with having silly episodic plots, and Doremi has even worse production values than Sailor Moon does, so it's laughable that you're using that as an example after criticizing SM for the same thing.
>Sailor Moon just isn't worth it just because some oldfags say it got great stuff.
Better than some newfag such as yourself with a bunch of non-arguments he read on YouTube instead of actually watching the show.

Why are Venus and Mars so perfect?

>OG
What is it? sorry if I'm being a retard but it's really my first time hearing that

og = original gangsta.
original series

>Crystal is “canon” series
>venus gets robbed of her victories and badassness again
When will Minako get the adaption she deserves?

watched it as a kid - loved it
tried watching it when i was 16 - hated it
watched it again when i was 25 - loved it

>Is Sailor Moon worth getting into as an adult or has it aged badly?
It's fantastic at every age, you gotta like both mahou shoujo/SoL shows and Ikuhara though.
