He was calm and cool because he realized being sad and complaining over his bad circumstances of satellite and an orphan wouldn't get him anywhere. He resolved himself to fight for his future and against the invisible fear of having none. He's just roughed up for where he grew up. It's more or less the same for yusaku after being traumatized. Yusei being like that only makes the moments where he's happy even more impactful.

The writing definitely is different for DM than the other series. The decks have a sort of personality, and since they don't swap out cards outside of antes in the tournament arcs, it's fun to see them come together. Kaiser was before a very respectful and nice duelist, like Go, but unlike him, we saw him dueling a lot, being a strict yet also gentle and caring brother for Sho, specially the duel against Camula, his Ceremonial duel against Judai, and a lot of stuff. Go never had this level of development, so when he joined SOL the feeling wasn't impactful as Kaiser, that after becoming obssesed with victory, he throw away all that respect for power. In Kaiser case, we hated it, but also hoped that he could change for good again, something that ended happening, and although melancholic, he being himself again at the end was something that make me and others smile. Go on the other hand, he barely got the same level of attention, and instead of trying to develop him just a little more, they turn him into a sore loser, so now his character is ruined.

I'm basing it on my experience. Zexal was the shittiest ygo I've watched and I never finished it because of that. It took too long for me to find it interesting and that's a sing of a shit anime. I'm really curious about this. He eneded up as a hobo, but somehow ended up in Europe or something for BBT. Shame the hobo ending means we wouldn't get to see any other GX characters like best boy even if we did get it.
Yusei gave up dueling at the end of 5D's if I remember correctly, so that really wouldn't work.

If we went the anime route, instead of what the manga does, then we could see the cast as a few years older. We could have Asuka teaching, Manjoume as a pro duelist and other such things. Alternatively, we could get a movie that takes place between Season 3 and 4 with Judai's journey through the other dimensions.
What I'd really like to see is Masked HERO on the big screen and maybe Edo using the new D-HERO cards.
