During the alliance meeting when they discuss attack on Unato castle Ikoma acted highly irritated (because of the fused colony influence) even outright agnry when he tried to present his findings and they didn't lock him up, that happened much later when he actually started to turn and attacked Mumei on the street in front of the guards.
Also Ayama and Kurusu reflected upon what happened during the meeting and went with Ikoma's suggestion much sooner than shit started happening.
Don't describe things in obtuse manner and out of order to pretend to have a point.

Ikoma should work on the kabane hivemind disruptor next. It really is hard to trust them as halfbreeds when it can seemingly remotely affect their actions

There are multiple tracks shown coming in and out of the capital in the rail network, it's far safer to blow one of the tracks up and readjust the transit to the other routes by having trains take detours than to risk everything.

Sure, in that time period, with most of Japan dead, and Mumei and Ikoma not even considered human anymore I don't expect any problems in universe. I just don't often see oniloli couples get any unambiguous physical displays of affections in anime.

Mumei is too tall for a loli (she's 160cm while the maximum loli height range is 145-150cm), she's just comparatively short to most of the main cast that is considered as tall freaks by Taisho era standards.

There's a two part novelization, a prequel novel and another novel which is supposed to take place after the TV series. The novelization is OK, it's written about the level of an average LN so the writing isn't great but it gives insight into what the characters are thinking and feeling and bridges the scenes in the anime with some extra scenes between. I'm not sure about their canonicity but I don't recall anything contradicting the anime.
The other two novels are written more like normal adult novels and have a different writer who works on the anime as one of the scenario writers who oversee the worldbuilding, so I think they're considered canon. I forgot to finish the last released novel but the prequel one is good. It's about Ikoma's life up to the events of the first episode of the anime, how he met Takumi and developed the steam piercing gun. I like Ikoma as a character so I enjoyed reading it.
