Regardless whether you're shitposting or not, Asahi was literally introduced as an NTR character in order to push Soma x Erina. I agree with most things you said. MGS and KH are different to me in the sense that they‘re games and don't have the luxury to set up stuff for the next story because the developers don't know if they can continue the franchise or not.

Take the series. Now imagine if the chef advisor goes on maternity leave so no one is coming up with interesting dishes for the manga anymore. Now imagine that souma has a super secret evil twin brother but not exactly and he easily defeats Soma's dad offscreen. Now imagine that there are dark evil chef's who cook with things like chainsaws. Now imagine that the author retconned things like the god tongue into being basically a known super power and the evil twin dude has the power of being able to learn and use the cooking style of any chef he defeats in a dual just by holding their knife.

Because he thought that as standards kept going up, so did his wife suffering, similar to how it happened with Joy, but with the difference that instead of being burned out, the overuse of Mana's ability made it so that as she kept trying more and more dishes, she came to be unable to taste food. So, if he thought that he kept things to a standard, then Mana would be able to enjoy more food as less people would be increasing the standards.

So sometime around Souma's match versus the spice dude? Okay. Souma wins his match vs Hayama with the bear meat. Everyone else except Megumi and Takumi loses their matches vs the elite ten and are going to be expelled. So Souma's dad Joushows up to help bail them out, and Erina's dad Azami being a big fanboy of Jou from back in their school days is willing to agree to to Jou's propose to decide everything with elimination tournment. We get some back story on why Jou quick school(burned out by trying to meet the expectations of people who didn't know how much work he had to do to develop new dishes) and he trains Souma, Erina, Megumi, and Takumi, and they recruit the elite 10 ousted by Azami for the match. The next ~50 chapters are the match with most of the side characters reduced to spectators, but it's not too bad overall, and Erina's ends up being the last one standing who wins it for the good guys. That's when things start going downhill. Instead of more or less a return to the status quo, they make Erina the headmaster and Souma becomes 1st seat of the elite ten, and we get a time skip to them being 2nd years. Headmaster Erina sends 1st Seat Souma and 10th Seat Megumi to a hot springs town to investigate inns suddenly closing down. It turns out to be some dude appropriating the concept of the Shokugeki is a fault, Megumi defeats him, and he turns out to be one of several "dark chefs" which Erina has been sending the elite ten to deal with.

Meanwhile while this is going on a new teacher has been attempting to woo Erina. He even has a match with Souma and wrecks Souma. The new teacher whose real name is ultimately revealed to be the leader of the dark chefs when he has his minions kidnap Erina. His real name is Saiba Asahi, having won the right to use the Saiba name after defeating Jou 5-0 in a Shokugeki. He did so because Jou mentored him for several years when he was an orphan kid, and he came to think of Jou as his father. He resents Souma because Jou left him as teenager when Souma's mom died and Jou had to go back home and raise Souma. his purpose in having Erina kidnapped was to challenge her to a match where if he wins, she'll marry him. Erina, irked by his attitude, accepts his challenge without demanding anything in return. Asahi then clarifies he wants the match to take place at the upcoming international tournament name BLUE. Meanwhile no one notices Erina was kidnapped, Jou tells Souma about Asahi and that he lost to him, and Souma gets his own invitation to BLUE, as do Megumi, Takumi, and the former 1st seat Tsukasa.

So to BLUE the story goes, and in the process abandons all the minor characters for a couple dozen chapters. Instead of the tournament being filled with past Tootsuki graduates like you might expect, it's filled with "dark chefs" this year as the "light chefs" have proven inadequate to the mysterious person running the tournament. Said dark chefs look like weird cosplayers and uses illogical gimmicks as cooking tools such as the chick who uses a fancy chainsaw to fine cut and season meat. They go through the preliminaries with a minimum of cooking or showing of dishes, and the resolution of the final preliminary is skipped to go straight to Souma's first match vs the chainsaw chick. She uses her chainsaw as a mixer and explosives in the oven to somehow produce a delicious delicate cake. Naturally Souma beats her, and we begin racing through the tournament. Erina accompanied Asahi to the tournament, and despite being under no threats or restrictions of her movement declines to tell anyone that she was kidnapped or that she agree to marry Asahi if he defeats her in a match. She even avoids Souma without a word when she bumps into him after witness Asahi display his "super human talent" Cross Knives.

Really goes to show how much they fucked up the manga by doubling down on the stupid family drama they had a chance to escape from.

Eh, I feel the NTR is what killed the interest and discussion. The family stuff would've been more tolerable if Asahi didn't exist but there has to be some drama to lead up to the family issue with Erina.

I count Asahi's existence and antagonism as family drama, he might not be related to Souma but he considers himself a son of Saiba and that just made the whole thing reek of bad south american telenovela drama.

Cross Knives lets Asahi copy the cooking skills of a chef if they give him their knife, or if he wins it from the in a match. Using the knives of two chefs lets him multiply their power. He uses it to defeat Tsukasa 5-0 and get his knife, we don't even see what dish Tsukasa made, it's over in less than a chapter. The mysterious head of the organization running BLUE turns out to be Erina's mother Mana. Who has the same god's tongue as Erina and regards it as curse as it's sensitivity reached the point where she can't eat normal food and has to get nutrients by IV. That's why she left home when Erina was a little kid, and she hate both her own god's tongue, and Erina's as well. As such she makes Erina's bracket a gauntlet where Erina has to defeat everyone else. Takumi defeats one dark chef in a match with Souma's support, and we get a flashback of him getting his fancy knife back from Souma. Erina trash talks Takumi and knocks him out of the tournament. Megumi notices that Asahi is bugging Erina and tries to get him to stop but loses her match with him and gets knocked out of the tournament. After witness Asahi defeat Megumi using the knives of two chefs Megumi had defeated previously, Erina finally tells Souma and Megumi about the marriage bet with Asahi. However despite their apparent bad relationship, Erina wants to save her mother from her condition. Which she thinks she can't do as both of them have the god's tongue and Mana hasn't been able to satisfy herself with it, so food Erina creates using it wouldn't do either. Instead after seeing Asahi's power, she's beginning to think he's the only one who could save her mother, and maybe she should just throw the match to that end, even if it means marrying Asahi. Souma for his part doesn't care about that and is mainly annoyed that Erina thinks he can't beat Asahi. After that was skip to the semi-finals one of which is Souma vs Asahi.

That more or less brings us to the present. The side characters have finally reappeared to be spectators. They dragged Azami in as this is something he should be around for, but he thinks Asahi will win. He also uses the "curse" of the god's tongue to justify his past actions. Asahi's present his dish to good reception including from Mana, and now it's Souma's turn.
