Much of the source material for seasons 2 and 3 inherently defied adaptation into a visual medium. The former's wandering, tangential storylines and the latter's extreme dependence on inner monologue to work at all doomed its continuation from the start. Kadokawa giving them more than 10 cents for a budget wouldn't have fixed this, but the abysmal CGI was the thing people will end up remembering.
