Dragon ball and DBZ are the same story

At certain point DBZ lost the sense of childish sense of adventure that was the running theme of Dragonball. Maybe Toriyama got tired or maybe he was forced to write more for the fans, whatever the case, the spirit of Dragonball is dead in DBZ. Its certainly not there at all in Super.

Please rewatch it. No way you like it. I rewatched it recently, and its so bad. It has some kino moments, dont get me wrong, but theres only like 2 or 3 hype battles, and even then you can see how they use the same shots. Its painful to watch sometimes.
I rate it worse than Super, because even if Super sucks, it has some great battles, agaisnt Black, Jiren, etc.... GT has some good moments, but not good episodes.

I loved the black star dragonball arc. Might be my favorite of all of dragonball. Dragonball needed to evolve into that kind of formula. Rest of GT is not good.

It definitely has better character designs and all around aesthetic than Super. Paired with the ideas it had, it really feels more "dragonball" than super does. I just wish they made goku stay as an adult after he unlocked ssj4, as if to say ssj4 was so powerful, it overcame the pilaf's wish to keep him a kid so when he de-transforms at the end of the baby arc, he'd be like "whoa, I'm not a kid again!", so only the first arc would be like OG dragonball with Z bits and the rest would just be like Z.

I just wish they gave the other characters more spotlight and attention. Trunks and Pan were useless, they fucking nerfed them. And gotenks should've been used.
Gohan was decent against baby goten but he should've been more powerful against super 17. Majuub was fucking wasted too. Hyped up at the end of Z just to fuse with buu to be completely useless.

My headcanon is super never existed, trunks was slightly more like his future trunks self with a few differences because those characters should still be kept conceptually separate, he started using a sword. Pan goes ssj for the first time when sharing power with ssj 4 goku before he fights baby, maybe foreshadow her power through the first arc like they did with gohan in Z to ramp up to that point. Have goku and vegeta team up to fight super 17 after the rest of the Z fighters put up a slightly more decent fight than they did in the anime to act as foreshadowing to when they fuse against omega shenron in the shadow dragon saga, maybe make it so they could've almost beaten him but they only lost because they didn't realize he was absorbing their energy to grow more powerful until he surpassed them.

Then make the shadow dragon saga a bit more like young jijiii's AF manga where the Z fighters each fight a certain shadow dragon in but in small squads to make them less useless.

Oh yeah, and either don't kill piccolo, or at least give him some meaningful moments before he dies. He deserves a warrior's death.

As someone who never watched dragonball as a kid but read the manga I recently watched all of it apart from Super. GT was just not very good. First half is okay where they try to be more like the original dragonball but second half is just horrible, especially everything after baby.

Probably my biggest issue I had with the show was how it just seemed to make no sense a lot of the time power level wise. I get that they have to do something so everything doesn't just feel like a joke to beat but it just doesn't make sense why they so often fight without transforming. Goku sure you could make the argument that he wants a more fair fight, but it doesn't make sense for anything else.

Also it's hard to really believe that they really should struggle with beating most of the enemies they come across as surely most of them would not even be close to as strong as someone like Frieza, who himself would be an absolute joke to both Goku and trunks at this point.

I suppose that's an issue for dragon ball as a whole though, it's pretty hard to keep coming up with supposedly stronger enemies and make it believable. I mean the first tournaments in the original the characters could already move fast enough for normal people to not see them, first piccolo could already destroy a city in a single blast but somehow we are supposed to find Omega Shenron, supposedly the most powerful character in existance, doing a similar explosion impressive?

Not quite even where I'm even going with all this but yeah, I definitely don't think GT is good. If you want the adventure dragonball, watch the original, and if you want the planet at stake battles then Z up to and including the freeza arc.

But yeah how is super in regards to all this, just as stupid as GT or how is it? Just wondering if I should bother with it or not.

Super is just plain power levels fight. There's no sense of story or character progression (unless you count Vegeta/Gohan becoming a complete cuck)

Well, I can not lie when it comes to DB, user, it had a great impact in my life at the time, I loved DB when I first watched it, I liked DBZ too, not as much as DB but it was still very enjoyable, I've watched DB and DBZ many times, DB never fails to make me smile and DBZ is still very addictive, I can watch a bunch of episodes and lose the track of time.
I watched DBGT twice and I did not like it, I didn't like anything about it, music, animation, story, it was so disappointing but I gave it another chance but I wasn't able to enjoy it, that was my way to end my "relationship" with DB or at least with DBGT.
Dragon Ball Super was another huge disappointment, music, animation, all terrible compared with DB or DBZ, I kept watching it, I had to, hoping that the next episode or arc was the one where things would get better, and they did, slightly, but it wasn't enough, DBS became less terrible but it was still pretty bad, out of 131 episode only 3 or 4 were decent.
My conclusion about DBS is that I will not be revisiting it, I don't want to watch it again.

I don't think GT was all bad ideas. Some things were nice, some things were good ideas but poorly used. Even some of the worst arcs had good things about them (like Super 17). But since nothing was done really well, overall it will never be more than a bad show. Super is very close in that regard, the one advantage it has is it ended on a really high note.
