Because women are hateful creatures
Because Phos is raciss
Phos is a self insert of the author's highschool years in a Buddhist school
Year 1 was her genki Master Scholar self being broken in by realising 'the void' and nihilism, and trying to find herself a path beyond growing up
Year 2 was her encountering new ideas and concepts, some of which entirely replaced her existing ideas, transforming her into LaIchikawa
Year 3 was her attempt at reconciling everything under one unifying idea, only to watch it go tits up as her teachers were no longer an influence over her peers, who each took their own directions (which ends up inevitably with two conglomerated factions at odds with each other despite a common goal)
Graduation is Phos being broken up into little pieces (her classmates' memories of her), which are only let out on occasion. Despite this, things still happen without her - her peers may think that with her gone, her aim is stifled - little do they realise that her task was bigger than just herself
S-source?
>protag is a representation of them
>they hate themselves
People who hate themselfs scream for redeeming and want to be punished for things that sometimes are just silly and sometimes are really fucked up
>Has to paint himself white so he doesn't look like blackface
>themselfs
They've got some marvellous use of color in their work
I don't know how, but their blues and golds seem particularly punchy/juicy
they seem to only post on that site but their stuff is really good
This is just taking parallels with the journey of Phos' character with a normal high school experience of transitioning from teen shithead to adult perspective lol
I know many people who did something similar (but not in a 3 year framework) when they first experienced a close family death or first breakup or first philosophy book or psychology class or getting political online, this is just speculating what that looks like from that perspective under the assumption that the goal being sought after is in fact a noble one rather than yet another 'oh my god its meaningless' or 'why cant they see that X-ist Y-ism is the one true way to rule a nation'
The editor forced changes on them that they couldn't/wouldn't resist and ruined them in the mangaka's eyes. But they cant say no to the income and walk away.

Has the manga end? will there be another season?
Why/when did Ichikawa stop drawing the gembutts with huge gem butts?
no and yes no
No.
Maybe? The first season did well so probably. But it might take another few years since the studio is working on another anime right now.
idk but watching phis just ruin their life more and more is getting p hard
Imagine still rooting for Phos lmao glutton for punishment much?
GEM NIGGA
we close our eyes and Phos still genki and cute and wholesome, not a Frankensteinian abomination
>Frankensteinian abomination
>Post red gems
How many more chapters until Phos goes full Houseki Become Human?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I LOVE PHOS SO MUCH!!!
Someone post DONGmea before I start to sing Laybrinth.
But we all hate them?
here you go fampai
shit macro with the retarded reinforced text but I'll use it to post an eternal reminder that Red Dia never had to wear black clothing because that's supposed to be for mourning, it's definitely relevant that she wore all white
>DONGMEA
ALAS YOUR WERE TOO LATE.
>But down in the underground
Because suffering can be sexy character building, and that's exactly what Phos is.
"Pseudomorph of love" scanned pages in a rough TL by red-dia have surfaced online so I'm going to post them.
I might just be retarded but why do they call the uniforms they wear in spring “Summer Uniforms” instead of using that for the ones they actually wear in summer.
source?
Because they mostly use only two kinds of seasonal outdoors outfits, so it probably came down to naming them after the two main seasons. Also the weather could be a little extreme because of the island being the single landmass on the planet so it's possible that spring and fall are relatively shorter
user was probably guessing in a general sense rather than refering to houseki specifically.
One thing that these definitely confirm is that the weird 'bubbles' in Lapis' dream are supposed to be goethite. Goethite being famous for being 1. found at the bottom of the sea, reinforcing the watery imagery associated with gems and rebirth and 2. being a pseudomorph so it makes sense in the context of Phos acquiring new parts too
Thank. I own the book but I can't into moon so it's nice to actually read about Ichikawa's thoughts.
Thank the one who scanned it (spiffyrockpeople) and the one who translated it (already mentioned)
Very insightful. As an artist myself, I really admire Ichikawa while also being envious of her body of work. She also sounds really cute talking about her works.
I think I’ve seen someone post a page from that “prototype houseki” Ichikawa made. Does anyone here know if there somewhere it can be found?
>Ichikawa doesn't like my favourite cover.
Don’t worry user. It’s my favourite cover too.
Well I'd also like to thank you for posting them so yeah.
And the last one. Pc couldn't connect to the site for a while.
Ichikawa's saying that she lost of most it herself there, so I don't think there's much more to it than the few sketches that have already surfaced here and there. The only way to be sure would be asking nips on futaba or Twatter though.
What would that make the uniforms they wear in volume eight? I’m pretty sure it’s summer when they are wearing them, since the night raid takes place in the latter part of fall.
Thats a shame. It would have been interesting to read.
Oh, I have that one.
The new design for the "summer uniform" which is actually worn in spring and only early summer.
Thanks for dumping this user.
Oh that makes sense. I guess I am just retarded.
Also thank you for the images user, and to the translator on the very slim chance he sees this.
The seasons talk made me realize that even with the timeskips the manga always told the story through the seasons, even going as far as using them for storytelling purposes and having the covers consistently depict that (mixing it with the use of different lighting also going forwards through the day).
So vol 1 and 2 are fall, 3 is winter, 4 is spring, 5 is summer/early fall, 6 is fall/early winter, 7 is winter in the 102 years and then spring again, 8 is summer, 9 is fall.
Now it's winter and we have dead Phos, echoing how winter was the time of loss and suffering both in what happened with Antarc and Cairo waiting for Phos to wake up. So while this is already following the pattern, I guess it's going to be interesting to see what time of the year will Phos be reassembled, timeskip or not. Spring would mean a new beginning, winter would mean it's still time to suffer.
I think the next cover will have a black background.
I’m thinking white, given the wedding and all.
Enjoying their suffering =/= Hating them
Sometimes they overlap but other times some characters just tickle your sense of sadism that you want to see them suffer without much hatred involved in the process.
Probably both white and black, given the moon setting, but I'm betting on mostly black since the colour is relevant to Cairngorm and space, and darkness and suffering.
Also, white was already used for volume 1.
Maybe? Volume 9 broke the Shinsha tradition, so #10 could break the "no characters but gems on the front cover" one.
The shinsha tradition wasn't broken though.
I’m kind of curious what other gems she has to go on the cover if Ichikawa doesn’t break the tradition. Especially since we probable only have 4 more volumes to go (assuming 108 chapters) and I would bet money the the final cover will just be all Phos’s different designs.
>old goshe
>new goshe and new morga
>moonslut if ichikawa want’s to go with “she was reborn” symbolism
>red dia
>other restored gems like bluzo
>another newborn gem that shows up during a timeskip
I think she has enough to fill out the remaining volumes, even if she doesn’t start putting non gem characters like moonies, slugs, sensei and the proffesor on the front cover.
The final cover being all Phos' different designs is something I feel strongly certain of.
Or if anything, simply Phos alone.
It was though, Shinsha was on the back outside cover rather than the flap.
no he wasn't, the ones on the back outside cover were Yellow and Pad. I have all the volumes at home, so I'm certain of this..
Shitsha was where he always is.
What are you talking about user? He’s in the same place as always. The back cover was Pads, Yellow and Cringeworm, with Bowie on the back flap.
Ah fuck you're right, my bad.
I think Shinsha will be on the front cover in the final volume, so I could see the second last volume being all Phos' designs, and the final one just being Phos and Shinsha.
While we're on the subject of seasonal changes, another reason for the next chapter (and possibly the next few ones) to be still set in the winter would be the established relation with ideas of afterlife, with the ice floes being called 'sinners' and directly reminding of Buddhist hells and the purgatory both Cardigan and Phos had to go through for 102 years.
>Phos: 1 year
>Cairngorm: 102 years
>??? : 10000 years?
It's true that another long timeskip would also mean that they'd likely appoint someone to be in charge of winter stuff, even without the moon attacks. So far it looks like they're all doing it in turns like they did in volume 6 but we haven't gotten to the actual snow season yet.
I think that it could be more proof that the timeskip won't be longer than one year assuming there's going to be any at all, unless Ichikawa's planning to give some gem more depth or a character arc putting him in charge of winter. I really can't see any candidate to that though except maybe 33 or Zircon.
I don't think there's going to be a very long timeskip either, but if there was I would guess that a new gem might be born to take the winter role. Ichikawa could develop any character, really, except for Nepti since being mysterious is the entire point of that character
I’m still wondering what that “new tehnology” Aechmea was talking about will be. I have the feeling it can’t be something good.
It’s been almost a year since cairngorm first became moonslut.
The timeskip would have to be like REALLY long since nuMorga is 70 and treated like a primary school kid, so I can't really see another gem being just a century or two old taking over such an important responsibility.
I think a lot of people fell in love with the idea of a Phos 2.0 and headcanon from that, but we have some internal reasonings that would point toward a short timeskip (a few weeks to < 4 years):
>story poetically taking up 108 years
>the whole arc referencing the Japanese funeral rites numerology, with Phos failing to be "reborn" on Earth as a gem again, being effectively "dead" and needing a proper rebirth now
>Aechmea feeling a sense of urgency that Karen admittedly couldn't subdue
>Aechmea's plan B involving too
>whatever Yellow wants to do
>no timeskip would probably be long enough for the gems to stop keeping watch for the moonies just in case
test
Jesus it looks terrible with the downscaling.
That Ned Flanders looking butt is kinda weird looking. Rest of the image is very nice
So when exactly does sensei says the "the best medicine for questioning ones place in life is hard work" quote? Rutile is the one that says it in chapter 2 of the manga but i recall kongo saying it in the anime
I don’t think he says that exact quote but he says something similar when talking to Phos about shinsha and the night patrol.
is this better?
Unless Cairn got some implants I don't think their butt is that spherical or pronounced. Imagine what it looks like from a profile view and compare it to Euclase on the vol 9 cover.
I think you might be mixing up two quotes, one is from Rutile in chapter 2 and the other is Adamant talking about Shinsha in chapter 7. The translation of Rutile's might be a bit different so the two might sound similar but I don't think he was referencing Rutile
But what if I want to draw a big round butt, even though it might not be the correct butt to draw?
Just do what you like in that case
I think drawanon's experienced enough with drawing that two opposite tendencies are clashing: the desire to be manga design-accurate and the itch in the back of your brain telling you that's not how spines work.
The second's more accurate, but the gems' early design has the spine end in a slightly more acute angle (due their lack of meat) so the butt is more prominent. At the same time it's very round while being fairly small in sheer size, so it looks very off unless one comes very close to Ichikawa's own style.
If I had to offer actual criticism, I'd say the problem with is that Crinkle's legs are too far apart, resulting in a big butt with a fatter left cheek instead of what should look like wider hips. The neck should be slightly longer or connecting at a higher point too.
t. gembutt pro
What are you going to arrest me for?
Thanks this actually makes a lot of sense. I'll try to fix it at some point after I'm done with my homework.
>tfw I'll never be as pro at gembutts as this user
how much would weight 160cm(5'3) tall person with gem's body shape?
I wish I had melty gold alloy arms and a super brittle gem body
>hate
Nah... Suffering is a constant, exciting, stimulating feeling. Ichikawa sees Phos as her lovechild.
Is this how gems are born?
If made of meat, weight range is between 51.2 to 64.0 kg
If made of gem, from 300 to 600 kg
>Is this how gems are born?
Miroku Nyorai how horrifying
Still I doubt we're going to learn much about the actual process that ends up spawning gems from that single cliff, at least unless the early gem formation lore is going to be touched upon in the Sea Arc to explain what happened in the sea after the 6th impact

This is perfectly provocative, but now I want another one that emphasizes Phos alone. Please, in the future?
We already know how gems can get pregnant...

This image is giving me thoughts
Real talk: what the fuck was Aechmea going to tell Karen before he backed out?
Also Karen totally called him out on his bullshit twice in the same line ("you didn't tell me what you were originally going to and you never expanded on the implausible thing you told me on our wedding night") proving she's only pretended to be retarded.
If he was going to say some last words before disappearing but then didn't because Prayerbot stopped working, why didn't he just tell her so?
Jesus, I wish I was Cairnslut right now in this pic.
>tfw no Phos gf
>that subtle transparency
I didn't know I had this fetish.
Damn it drawanon, and just as I was getting ready to sleep for the night. Now I've become the hardest diamond.
But, see, that's not a big round butt, that's just a ball that got lost in the picture and that you accidentally colored.
Cute
Assuming he really did think they were going to vanish right there and wasn't playing some 5D chess again, it must've been something that would only be best said as some last words.
A reveal maybe?
Imagine
"You're not the first one."
I love Drawanon
I can't picture the prince being so overly petty that he'd call her just to say that unless he had some reason. It probably wasn't about the ships, the cityand the reconstructing because Ame and the others are in charge of that. Also Karen wouldn't care.
Something about Ghost maybe?
A secret he knows about the gems or humanity (something about the particle)?
The moonies not being what he said they are?
Personally I'd go with leaving her in charge of something that would be needed at that point and no one else could do. Maybe Sensei actually praying purifies moonies but destroyes the Earth except the moonies had a shutdown button all along.
So now we know what those rocks are and they look like skin lesions from an STD. Nice.
Well, Lapis is kinda an STD
I wonder if there's an actual symbolic decoding system to the two dream sequences. Especially the first one, but the second too in how the cloud of dead gems in the sky seemingly forms the sea with its own shadow.
When i think of stds I think of warts and spots and chubby people's FUPAs, not some fucked-a-cancer-tumour-then-BBQd-it look
God DAMN that rock has some buns
ichikawa, please take inspiration from this
That's a pretty bodacious rock.
>the black rocks are found at seabeds
>no water
>the sea is dead
>dead gems forming a new sea
this seems fairly important but I can't figure out how
The dreamscape seems to be made of three elements:
>pseudomorphic goethite "bubbles"
>the ground (apparently containing memories on the edges)
>the empty void
In Phos and Lapis' dream, the bubbles are overwhelming and scattered, the ground has holes and the void is sparse, leaving holes here and there. Also Aculeatus' shell is visible in the distance. In Laphos' dream, the bubbles are organized nice and clean, the ground has a single clear cut, forming a beach-like line on the void, which seems to be a reflection of a previously unseen floating cloud. The six moons and what looks like a circle with the shattered gems' bodies can be seen in the sky.
Is Goethite meant to be a further hint/reference? Goethe wrote Faust, after all, and he's had a big influence on literature and philosophy that some Yea Forums nuts would be able to better explain
Then there's the obvious visual hint in the same chapter 48 where Phos sees the cloud (I'm not sure it's the lunarian saucer dissolving) and is reminded of his dream, except it's the cloud that's black. Instead of trying to reach for the gems in the sky, Phos goes down in the sea, where he'll find the missing piece to his story, understanding what Lapis meant.
Even leaving aside that Phos probably "sees" lots of gems in his dream that he didn't personally know, there seems to be some moons-sea-clouds connection.
Goethe wrote a hell of a lot more than Faust.
I'm willing to bet it isn't. If this was written by say Urobuchi it'd be definitely worth it to explore that angle, but
1. there are no proper Faustian pacts in houseki and the one made with Lapis especially isn't one
2. there is no case of a gem's IRL reference name being thematically relevant to the character aside from Ghost Quartz
3. it's not like Goethe only wrote the Faust
4. every interpretation is obviously cool but I don't think the series' lore has ever had demonstrably referenced anything but Buddhism
I'm wondering if the void might be the holes in memory left from the various traumas. Especially if the edges of the ground contain memories.
I can't wait to reread with good scans and translations. I should probably buy the physicals too.
buy the physicals and make good scans yourself
>good translation
Very arguable
Please don’t buy the physicals unless they are the raws.
Seems like the obvious connection.
Now I'm hoping to see how fucked up it gets if Phos loses another major part of his body.
>I can't wait to reread with good scans and translations.
What's stopping you?
Definitely. It would also make sense of how the main thing Phos couldn't remember ended up being the sea.
Why are her drawings so fucking erotic?
I wonder what colour that floor stuff is? It looks like it has small pyrite flecks, as if it's made of Lapis, but if it represents Phos' memories then it wouldn't make sense.
I love Alex.

This reminds me of something: can anyone who reads moonrunes tell what pronoun is nuMorga using? I'm not sure he used any in his first appearance, while we know nuGoshe (wherever he might be) uses boku.
>it’s scary so the farthest place, at the beach of begginings
Still no personal pronoun
I wonder if the next few chapters will have a callback to the first one with the other gems running around on the grass whilst Phos is buried underground.
the one with the side-pony? doesn't use a pronoun in that page
>after burial, Phos is now trapped underground, split in 16 parts
>Jigoku literally means 'earth prison' and there are in fact sixteen hells
I think this is only more evidence that Phos' release from his punishment is going to happen after a meaningful number of days or years that's tied to the trials where the hell-trapped spirit can appeal to a buddhistic Hell King.
>hoped for a decent non-QUALITY shot of NuMorga that chapter
>that's what I get
thanks Ichikawa
Depends if there's a timeskip or not as winter wouldn't feel too appropriate for that kind of shit. Chapter 46 did that already.
I see, it was worth a try.
It’s ichikawa, if it isn’t a full-page panel it’s some degree of QUALITY.
Who's the gem farthest to the right?
Sphene?
Looks like Peridot. Going by the braid, Sphene is just outside the picture on the left side too.
no I mean this one.
Sphene is up in front (our left) together with Bortz.
Drawnanon must draw Phos's butt at some point, one way or another.
He did draw Phos' butt once, but it was obscured by cloth.
Well, the fact that it's "days" and not "centuries" makes me feel a little bit better.
>Real talk: what the fuck was Aechmea going to tell Karen before he backed out?
"eat the human particle and I'll see you in nirvana"

If I am correct it could come to some weeks to 2 or 3 years. Even the farthest memorial "only" goes up to 33 years anyway.
Then there's the possibility that we're going to see the ice floes nowhere to go youtube.com
Has there been any concrete explanation/speculation on the ice floes?
I remember one theory where the inclusions from good remnants of humanity eventually became gems, while the sinners' inclusions became the floes.
PHHOOOOSSUUUU
Still don't understand why ice floes look like Lunarian ships so much.
>Ice floes are sinners
>Lunarians can't go to the afterlife because they are also sinners
Ice floes are the physical remains while lunarians are the spiritual remains doomed to roam forever for their sins
But dont quote me on it im just throwing wild guesses

Are the licensed translations good? I want to buy physical but I'm conflicted.
They aren't very good. Lots of wierdly worded text, annoying attempts and dodging pronouns and just generally inferior in quality to the japanese version.
Better than the fansubs, worth it for the art if you don't know moonrunes but still want to be able to read them
here's the currently translated volumes, if you want to see if they're worth your money

Oh god.
Where do I find all the covers in full?
I mean, Antarc says it in that page himself that there's a purely physical explanation and a more "spiritual" interpretation.
If humanity died in the sea (or went into the sea to die) and the bodies were dissolved by those 25hours vacation thingies, it means that biological remnants of human memories, makeup and behaviour are to be found at random among the water. Being so sparse and untied though, even when they're given solid, organized form in the ice they don't have enough sentience to assume human form, but can only resemble human voices and forms probably based on the agony and need for salvation that the last humans experienced during/after the last catastrophe.
This is probably the reason why they have a tendency to solidify in the form invoking the Amida Raigo - faint memories of humans striving for deliverance to the pure land.
>all the covers in full
Most of those can be found here imgur.com
Oh YES
Its beautiful.
On the subject of winter: why do anons seem to think that the gold-platinum alloy incorporates both the treasures of gold and silver?
Rutile, Sensei and Phos himself, when they don't refer to it as the alloy, always call it just gold. The crystallizations in this page are clearly gold's and nothing like platinum's, and nothing in Japanese suggests a particular vicinity of the two (silver -gin- and platinum -hakkin- are each akin to gold but only separately).
Plus each treasure was acquired in a particular moment that symbolized character growth, with silver standing for virtue or morality. Phos is many things, but not really a paragon of virtue yet.
Also, quite a few silver minerals have weird, cool designs or interesting properties en.wikipedia.org
In the end, I maintain that Phos still misses two treasures, not just the red one.
What's the point of it being an alloy in the first place, then? Something more directly relating to silver might come along, which at the moment the only candidate is Cinnabar because of mercury's old name as quicksilver, but for the time being we don't really know how closely Ichikawa will adhere to the seven treasures and their meanings.
Because mangaka is based.
Theres the theory that the platinum hasn't been "activated" as a treasure yet, and only will be aftef getting amalgamated with mercury.
>What's the point of it being an alloy in the first place, then?
That is indeed the main point against my argument, but it's still a negative one since it proves nothing. I could see it as one of two reasons (or even both); a mineralogy one, since gold alone would've been too soft and would've been unlikely to find as a pure element anyway, or Ichikawa had that as a plan B to in fact use it as an expy for silver in case the manga was canned or cut short since I bet she had plans for a shorter and a longer version of the plot (Phos gets the arms shortly after the legs, but then three full volumes pass before a new piece).
>Something more directly relating to silver might come along, which at the moment the only candidate is Cinnabar because of mercury's old name as quicksilver,
Doubt that since it only makes sense in English and Shinsha is ironically the only gem who doesn't have an English name. Why couldn't it be just a silver mineral?
>but for the time being we don't really know how closely Ichikawa will adhere to the seven treasures and their meanings.
So far it's been basically 1:1 as per both the treasures and their meaning. Sure a twist could come in the future, but her interest seems to be in showing a world abiding by Amidist rules except there is no Amida and therefore no real Pure land.
I know, but platinum is platinum and silver is silver -at the end of the day, they are two different elements. That would also mean that 1. the gold would be lost so Phos would be short a treasure anyway and 2. the implication that the treasure was already with Phos, undermining the theme that has him push forward to choices and territories he didn't think he could reach. That's why it's new bodyparts -for something to be truly gained, something has to be truly lost, so that even through all the suffering the sum is greater than before.
Most of the Phos’s treasures are just things similar to the actual treasures rather than being exact matches anyway.
Just noticed thats one of the hotel ladies.
>Most of the Phos’s treasures are just things similar to the actual treasures rather than being exact matches anyway.
This discussion has been done to death already (a good summary's in pic related), but I think it's worth noting that some conclusions could be drawn -even if they can't be ultimately confirmed 100%. It's hard to tell what actual materials make up the list because that comes from Sanskrit texts translated to early medieval Chinese. Still, the most reasonable grouping that keeps it the closest to the texts and the plot would be (can't be assed to copypaste the actual spellings)
>Sphatika = Crystal
The original phosphophyllite. Treasure of selflessness, Phos starts out by wanting to help Shinsha at all costs.
>Musaragalva = Agate
The legs. Treasure of listening, Phos alone listens to the slugs' plight and feels compassion for them.
>Suvarna = gold
The arms. Treasure of self-conviction, Phos overcomes his doubt in the cube and reveals his inner strength.
>Vaidurya = lapislazuli
The head. Treasure of knowledge, Phos learns from Lapis being knowingly crazy smart and attentive.
>Ashmagarbha = pearl
The eye. Treasure of wisdom, Phos finally learns the truth of their world and changes his behavior accordingly.
These matches would be consistent with most of the listings' translations and do in fact makes sense in terms of the plot. Treasures still missing: silver and [red whatever]. Seems sound to me.
Thankyou for finding the relevant compilation, I get a bit overwhelmed when I look back for the right ones
What if the peak with the crazy geometry where we see Sensei drop his pieces from and the 'if you just said you wanted to team up' dialogue is set is actually supposed to be filled with Dyscrasite (or more correctly, silver after dyscrasite) and that's where Phos will get the silver from? It looks a lot like that and it'd invoke lots of pottery.
Cursed ship. I love it.
If you don't mind the everypony stuff, then buy them.
Barbata for the love of GOD
Next volume is where that shit is bound to spectacularly fail anyway because of Karen's feminization
I just realised that 25-hour vacation is a plausible prequel to Houseki no Kuni.
The pearl lady could be the professor. Sensei could be modelled after her brother.
If I remember correctly, an user explained that if Phos arms were to interact with mercury, only the outermost layer of the gold would amalgamate, turning a silver colour, while the innermost layer and all the gold on the inside would stay gold, because it would be protected by the platinum. So Phos would not have lost a treasure.
Is this Alex or Phos
Look at the neck, user...
Why does he have an ahoge? And no doritos. And his eyes look more like Alex' eyes.
The weird human-dissolving alien creatures could definitely fit well as a prequel, but going by Aechmea's words and by the fact that I don't see us creating a fully sapient Buddhist railgun robot soon the professor lived during the last generations of humans in the impossibly far future.
Still, neither mercury nor platinum are silver. Lapis' doritos are famously gold-colored pyrite, yet they don't qualify as gold, do they?
I'd really like to know if the silver lead could go somewhere now, any mineralogy user could identify these bizarre formations? If the blobs were goethite all along, maybe the cliff is an actual mineral too.
He lost track.
The pearl lady could have been extremely long lived, considering she became a shell, so the timeline isn't much of an issue.
Reminder that Barbata is now in charge with the moon gems, Aleki included.
It would make sense though for Phos to lose his conviction(gold) and gain virtue(silver) after being attacked by Shinsha. It's been pointed out that Phos hasn't been considering the feelings of others, only himself. He's been acting out of conviction that he was doing the right thing, ignoring how he was hurting everyone by doing it. Recently he's been losing confidence in himself and his plan, and starting to understand the consequences of his actions, and it looks like he's about to get a lot of time to think it over.
The mercury would absorb all the gold and penetrate into phos's body, rendering him comatose and unable to act, virtuous, but with no conviction. Then eventually he'd regain his conviction, his inclusions would adapt, and he'd gain control over the mercury, separating it from the gold and having both at once.
It also says something about Shinsha, she's all virtue(silver) and nothing else. She's doesn't have enough confidence, wisdom, knowledge, selflessness, or generosity, and she won't listen to anyone else, so all she can do is try to avoid doing any harm.
With Lapis being intelligent to an extreme, the snails being very curious and obsessed with listening to stories, sensei being totally selfless and subservient, and the moonies being wise and learned to the detriment of everything else, I think we can see a pattern emerging. The treasure don't just work for Phos, he's just the only one gathering all of them into one place.

That was fun
Sorry, I wasnt home. Someone posted it already. Glad anons like it, it was a wonderful job from Degen.
Truly spoilers for next chapter. The idea of the commision was based on that thing they said about operating on Alex to get a lunarian source of light inside of her to turn her into Red Alex. So there it goes. Barbata being there was a detail from the artist, really nice.

I'm still not sure this could actually happen given that it's a scenario that only applies with a specific amount of mercury that should also only touch the gold and nothing else. Too much mercury and Phos "loses" the gold, the mercury touches the rocky parts and he gets Parappa'd with the poison seeping into the non-gold parts, too few and he's left with a failed amalgamation of three metals.
Also the story already has Phos get mercuried, it's literally how this whole journey started since cinnabar is a primary catalist for change in Eastern alchemy: a second mercurying would be less of circle closing and more of a thematic inconsistency. Not to mention it's more likely that Phos gets solid minerals from now on given that the merging's result would be an unviable (AuPt + AuHg) with the mercury ultimately adding nothing -Shinsha can use it to create endless clones but Phos couldn't. If being silver-colored would be enough to qualify as silver and therefore virtue, why doesn't >Benito qualify as Lapis therefore being smart? They're both blue after all.
Phos escaped the latest encounter with Cinnabar without getting mercuried, so that's likely going to be something saved for the end of the series if at all, although I don't think Ichikawa would miss out on having amalgamation happen at least once.
This to be honest, it's a huge point that Phos DIDN'T get mercuried, to the point that Parappa's character was completely hijacked to ensure that he wouldn't.
They seem to have separated Phos from the gold, I wonder where they put it. It could be buried somewhere else, like the shards, or maybe they just left it somewhere? We might get an abomination chapter where Phos' gold play the thing in a gem horror story, trying to dig up his pieces.
>gold forms a slime-mould-like network connecting all the Phos shard boxes together just under the surface of the planet
What happened is that Phos got sucker-whipped and saw in half. Shinsha went to hide that one while the conscious half (with some gold attached to it still) was brought before Sensei. When Phos was shattered, both halves' pieces were divided among the sixteen gems. So there couldn't be a piece that's just gold.
>I wonder where they put it
Antarc's old container
Goddamn I hate shinsha so much.
>tfw we will never get more lapis
damn...
Lapis is Phos and Phos is Lapis, it's just the Phos:Lapis ratio that's tilted out of your favour.
maybe but Phos' haircut is ugly! UGLY!
user has no taste! NO TASTE!
I want a Lapis and Ghost spinoff.
Phos hair is probably going to change next time we see him.
How do you think that will work?
melon is stupid, how can she do that to his friend?
same I hate how Ichikawa killed Ghost so fast, it was way too sudden
I mean, it could really go any way. Curly, longer, etc. Remember that gold gem thing Phos made in the shiro fight? Some people have been speculating that that Phos' final form will resemble it.
If we take into account that Rutile probably crushed her piece of Phos to irrecoverable dust, Phos is probably going to need a new bodypart/treasure soon.
Whether that will affect his hair style or not isn't something we can predict though.
The most straightforward way for that to happen would be for a part of Phos' head to not get recovered and then something else has to be put in, but do you still think it's going to be Pads as has been speculated for a while now?
No, because I refuse to acknowledge the possibility that Phos might get RED FUCKING HAIR.
PHOS WILL GET RED HAIR AND YOU'RE GOING TO LIKE IT
YAMETE
Gingercurser pls go
The reason why it isn't refered to constantly as the gold platinum alloy, is because it looks like gold, so even, though it isn't just gold, it is easier to refer to it by the cardinal color it primarily shows.
Some might also argue that phos doesn't truly have the treasure of wisdom and because the Pearl that Phos has right now is artificial, it will end up being replaced. (with the most accepted theory that the piece of herself that Phos gave to Varigeteus will turn into a pearl and end up becoming the true treasure of wisdom.
Phos wouldn't lose all of the gold in their arms. See pic related. (although don't respond to the other stuff in the image, just focus on the diagram.)
>would absorb all the gold
Again this doesn't work, it will only absorb the outer most layer, and Platinum has a low solubility in mercury.
See:
Ahh, that's the post I was referencing. Thank you kind user.
I remember some people speculating that Sensei had a Cintamani and that was what the lunarians really wanted. Or, maybe you could say that he is one.
because buddhism
god what a amazing cover
Probably going to be Pads' torso and Rutile will self destruct in anger. Padpa probably got fucked beyond repair when Cinnabar pissed everywhere and she's one of the few that is truly on Phos' side
Regardless of the plot, do you have any actual evidence that a gold-platinum-mercury amalgam will act like that? I think the mercury will act like nitric acid, moving through the gold and around the platinum until it invades the whole mass. The platinum could protect the mercury if it was a solid shell, but it's more like a porous sponge or piece of wood when mixed so evenly with the gold.
Don't forget also that phos' gold isn't solid, it's a constantly moving fluid, every time he changes shape the mercury will mix in deeper, so even if he was only coated on the outside, he'd have to either slough off the outer surface of his arms or keep them immobile in order to avoid further contamination.
Post cancerous gems!!
The logic is that the top layer will react with the mercury, forming the amalgam, but the amalgam can't react further with the platinum (remember that technically there's equal amounts of gold and platinum), so you end up with just the platinum as a top shell.
I think it depends on the proportions what happens. Just like nitric acid, if there's enough gold(few enough impurities) the gold will dissolve entirely, and the rest will be left behind, breaking apart. If there's not enough gold(too many impurities), only the outer layer will dissolve.
Mercury works kinda the opposite of acid, but I think the principle applies. The amalgam might even force it's way though some barriers by increasing in volume and cracking the platinum like rust jacking.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I LOVE PHOSSU
>no pic
disappointing
>that picture
see for reasons why that probably won't fly
Mercury doesn't amalgam with Platinum. By that very nature, Phos is protected.
The mercury does add something. It adds by subtraction. It purifies the platinum, leaving behind two separate and distinct minerals. Platinum on the outside, while the AuPt amalgam on the inside. (The ichor of the gods is also gold in color.)
The newest chapter makes me want to die. I can't relate to any of these characters anymore except for one who was buried alive
Phos will be alright next chapter, right bros?
Is it possible Cinnabar actually wants to help Phos? Why not just destroy him with mercury instead of burying them
That's not how it works at all lmao
