What I never understood was how they didn't defuse right after powering up to LSSJ level. Vegetto was in Blue for less than 3 minutes and only fired off a Final Kamehameha. Kefla was shitting lasers everywhere for a good 2 minutes.
I know, it's because there would be no tension otherwise. Caulifla wasn't very strong and Kale was wrecked by Jiren.
The rules were revised a few times because the Zen-ohs thought "it was cool".
- Can't bring any items into the fight: Master Roshi brings the jars to do the Mafuba, Caulifla/Kale bring the earrings. Zen-oh says the items weren't used for an attack, so it doesn't count.
- Jiren attacked the spectators and wasn't punished. Although they never stated that was a rule, the opposite was true (spectators can't attack the fighters).
- Getting help from outside: the spectators helped Goku create the Spirit Bomb.
