Its the most unremarkable YGO series ever. Just because the writers hasn't decided to let us know about Yusaku's family it doesn't mean he didn't have anybody help him go through his trauma. So far the only one who was all alone was Specter and unless the writers tell us Yusaku is an orphan we can say he has a family. So losing many times during the incident like the other kids did is not a very convincing argument for him to win all the duels. He wins all the duels because he is the MC.
