The only thing that CCA highlighted is how bad of a pilot Char is compared to Amuro. The psychoframe thing just drives it to the ground. Only then the homo stuff makes sense because Char seems to only like people who is better than him, first Lalah then Amuro.

But that doesn't mean that one scene where the robot bird fucks off to meet Arslan who's just outside the base, resulting in Kira and Arslan meeting properly for the first time in years, wasn't teenage drama kino. I still like rewatching it every once in a while.
But yeah dynamics wise, they're the most boring.
