I'm watching FMA, and some days ago a friend said to stop watching FMA and like watch FMAB instead.
Is FMAB that good?
watch both, finish FMA then watch FMAB
that way you can appreciate both
Yea Forums has irl friends?
Yes. They're inside their minds.
Both are trash, watch Mob Psycho 100 instead.
Watch fma 2003 then just read the fma manga
>stop watching FMA
Yeah, don't do that
...
nah watch both, definitely enjoy the original first
FMA (2003) is around 50 episodes (I haven't watched it since it was airing in Japan). The first half is kept up with the manga, but they caught up to the then fairly new manga and went off on their own direction. I remember it being pretty good.
Brotherhood is the manga animated, full stop. But they didn't want to redo the roughly 25 episodes they did years before, but they also had to animate them for all the people who hadn't seen the first anime or read the manga, so they just condensed everything into about 13 episodes, then did the rest of the story at a normal pace.
Pretty much this, finish the original (plus the movie if you feel like it) and then start FMAB
dropped FMAB at ep 18 or so. mediocre.
The original was great when it came out. I grew up with it and it was very popular. People were discussing it at school when I was young.
The thing you have to understand about original FMA is that it's very appealing if it exists in a vacuum without the context of the manga's ending. People tend to like FMAB better because it follows the manga more closely.
However, FMAB ends up with severe pacing issues and bizarre comic timing for its humorous movements that almost interrupt the story. This isn't an issue with original FMA and I think people forgive FMAB more because it's a direct adaptation of the manga.
Read the manga. Fma B is more close to the sory but miss the ambigious morality of it, the subtility and the maturity. A good example is the emancipation desire from King Bradley and his love for humanity/military forces of armestris. Witch the anime miss at some point. A lot of point are missed. Tho the first one is a abomination because it lack of all subtility about critics of the second world war. They litterally put nazi in it.
Watch both, but FMA first. The end of FMA isn't really bad (except the movie, which is trash), but FMAB is better.
/thread
except the fact that the second half of FMA 2003 is a dumpster fire even if you don't know about the canon events
I'm remembering back to my early teen years, but doesn't the original anime end with him in Nazi Germany or something?
watch both and make up your own fucking mind
Jews
We have to tell everyone that the nazis exist and were bad.
No seriously.
Chinese and middle easterners aren't having it though.
Conqueror of Shamballa is actually a pretty fun adventure, it just tends to sledgehammer you with parallels between the Amestrian military government and the Nazis that should have already been made clear in the 50 and some change episodes of the series.
your friend is a pleb FMA is kino and in a lot of ways did things better then the author
Still watch FMAB because of Ling
Watch both. I think they're both great I do prefer FMAB
LOL.
Is it possible to start with FMA and then switch to FMAB once it starts doing fanfiction? The pacing and jokes of the first few episodes of Brotherhood are awful.
Think of FMA as an alternate canon. The original's main villain is pretty much an Ann Rice character but it's honestly not bad.
Not really. FMA starts introducing its original plot points and changes in characterization very early. You'll just be confused.
Watch both, they are great. However, make sure you watch FMA03 and THEN move on to FMAB. Actual spoilers:The first series is a lot more somber and has a bittersweet ending, while the second series is more triumphant and gives the Elric brothers their happy ending. In other words, if you watch both shows, in release order, it will feel like Ed and Al suffered even more thanks to the trauma they experienced in FMA03, and thus the happy ending of FMAB will be more catharthic than if if you watch just FMAB.
