It makes sense from in-universe perspective, but from narrative standpoint it was a pretty shitty twist. Especially after we saw that Lower Moon 5 was actually pretty strong. We were hyped to see what other Lower Moons will show us, but then 4 of them are killed off at once.

They were hyped because they were strong in comparison to regular demons. But we already saw a former Lower Moon so we knew they weren't THAT strong but just had broken powers. The reason the Lower Moons all had to be killed is Wani wanted to bring the Pillars into the story and the Spider arc established that while the Lower Moons were threats to our heroes, they were fodder to Pillars. The story is already suffering extremely from Tanjiro delivering the killing blow to way too many high-tier enemies, if he also had to take out the other four Lower Moons, things would get way too repetitive.

In fairness, no one actually defeat Hantengu Hate clone. They just stall it while Tanjirou go for the real body.

Upper Moons 4-6 literally only lost because the story demanded it, they were given totally unjustified stupidity to explain how they lost. So far only Zenitsu's friend who doesn't really count as an Upper Moon was actually overpowered. All the others had to choose to lose.

Hantengu is a fucking monster he has the best destruction feats currently in the manga.

He beat Tokitou effortlessly, then proceeded to pretend he couldn't hear Kotetsu rescuing him all so that Tokitou could get a random power-up and then stomp him for some bizarre reason even though his power meant he could have escaped at any time. His death was never confirmed unlike all the other demons and the story has deliberately gone out of its way to confirm UM4 and UM6 were replaced but hasn't shown an UM5 so right now the debate is whether he survived or not. Even if he did die, we are clearly meant to think maybe he didn't.

There's no such thing as actual evil. Hantengu was less evil than the others if anything because they all willingly committed evil acts for hundreds of years while he seemed to just have a complete mental breakdown. In a legal world, he'd get sent to an insane asylum while all the other Upper Moons got the chair.

Excluding the dozens of pillars they killed in the past:

The only UMs that didn't take multiple on one to defeat was potfish where mist pillar who beat him is supposed to be a super genius from a legendary bloodline and even with bloodmark upgrades he nearly died, and Zenitsu's Sempai which I will grant is a jobber and in series its even said he only got into the UM to fill empty space.

The only reason Pillars lose is because they are human if they had demon physical traits they would be fucking monsters.

Yeah that point is brought up multiple times over the series that while breaths give them physical abilities similar to a demons their stamina is still only human. UM1 is going to be an absolute BEAST though given that he has both the original breath of the sun, the fire mark, and theoretically has the most of Muzan's blood of any of the moons.

From this season only Kimetsu and Senko-san managed to get 90%+ rating in all episodes until now.
