I'm currently blitzkrieging my way through cowboy bebop, and something like 17 episodes into the show already. When does it finally get good?

Last two episodes.
It just has a lot of style, and the soundtrack is good.
Samurai Champloo has a lot the same but puts a goal to the journey that the characters are almost always headed towards but get distracted at every turn.

Let me let you in on a little secret user. It may blow your mind, so I'll spoiler it.
Turns out, you don't have to like things other people like. Turns out if you watch several episodes of something and you don't like it, maybe you should just stop. Turns out 'blitzkrieging' something does not make it more enjoyable. Turns out making threads like this is retarded. Turns out you should fuck off, it's a school night after all faggot.

I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop but the last episodes are the best imo.

SPIKE DIES!

>a goal to the journey
That's totally it. If there's no goal always present in the backs of the hero's (and our) mind, then it's rather hard to engage with them. What do now? What next? What if. There's virtually none of that in Bebop. Samurai did this so much better, starting with episode one, the plot was laid out, even if super cryptic, if not meaningless, but it still did the trick.

It doesn't. It's a 6.5/10 show that just happened to be released when everything else was 4s.

If you think not having a goal makes a character hard to engage with you must have lived a life profoundly devoid of anguish. Good for you.

Newsflash, real people aren't shounen protagonists with only one meaningful character trait. Bebop is about characters with more than that.

The show did not need an overarching plot. It is just like real life. Stuff happens to you every day, and you just need to get by. Sometimes your past comes to meet up with you.

Question: Why did they pick up that kid, Edward? It has been multiple episodes since, and Edward never does anything. There's literally just that one scene I remember Ed doing something, and it was him playing chess with some bum over the internet. And that's it. Kind of pointless introduction of a (main) character if you ask me.

Yeah, but this is about storytelling and not about boring real life. Are you seriously claiming this is supposed to be a character study? It's clearly not.
And don't get me wrong, having a goal doesn't have to be a single, permanent thing, you solve it and the show is over. No. It's rather a carrot infront of your head, giving you a sense of direction. That goal can change, just be a subgoal, another goal may be revealed. It doesn't matter. But if you don't have anything like this going on, anything can happen next, and that's not a good thing.

>Bebop is about characters with less than that.
Fixed.

>The show did not need an overarching plot.
But it really did, which is why Watanaba did exactly that in his next show.

>It is just like real life.
So it sucks?

>him

Does it even matter?

It gets good a decade after you've watched it when the whole thing sort of blends together and you only remember the good parts. I think it's the opposite of the sum of its parts; individual episodes and scenes can be really good but they have a hard time fitting together. And not just because it's episodic. There are plenty of episodic shows that can handle it well. But here character motivations and attitude can change wildly for no reason just because one episode decided to be extra moody and plot focused, in a way that's incongruous with their past behavior. The movie is probably the best to come out of it just because it encapsulates all elements of the TV series in one concise package.

>So life on the Bebop sucks?
For them yes, for me no.

It's all stand alone episodes until last 5 episodes.

last three, actually.
CALL ME, CAAAAAL ME

If you don't like it by the end of episode 6 drop it user. It's entirely fine if it's not your cup of tea

It's time for my yearly chest pounding. Glad this thread reminded me of it

ED the real folk blue is good while OP is not bad too

Movie is 10/10

Is it good?

ep5

That is a subjective ranking for sure, objectively cowboy bebop is an 8.5/10. Yes art/media has subjective and objective rankings. If you think star wars return of the jedi is better than a new hope you're objectively wrong, but since it is your feeling on the matter subjectively you're correct.

There's more to fiction than the hero's journey.
>But it really did
It didn't.

This. I don't think I fully enjoyed it that much the first time I watched it but I do look at it more fondly looking back now.

I hate plotfags so fucking much

I know I've seen this exact thread with the exact same screencap. What's your angle OP? You just want a Cowboy Bebop thread but want to keep it alive by pretending you don't like it to generate discussion?

>Are you seriously claiming this is supposed to be a character study? It's clearly not.
Why isn't it a character study? Base your argument.

Never. It gets praised because a generation of anons watched it in their formative years.

the main strengths of that show is its audiovisuals, it's just your average adventure series otherwise

Sounds like the first 4 pokemon seasons

It's been awhile since I've watched the show but I'm pretty sure it's an episodic character drama. The through line is that they are bounty hunters and so they hunt bounties. I guess the overall goal is to make money. I remember most episodes being some kind of monster of the week bounty with the occasional twist into one of the characters backstory or some other such plot point.

There, does that help with your enjoyment? No? I guess One Piece is probably more your pace then. Maybe try Naruto.

The six core PLOT episodes are all great, and much of the stuff in between is fun, action-based procedural drama mixed with comedy

It has one good episode about shrooms. Everything else is just average

>cramming an episodic show
user not only is it not for you, but you're a fucking retard

>Not enjoying the backstory/gangster drama episodes

What is your problem?

Better yet, what’s OP’s problem? What gold standard is he holding this show to?

Ep 24 is the best.

Time to eat some eggs.

I'm watching it at present (E8) and I think it's good but perhaps overpraised.

It seems mostly concerned with mood rather than plot, and that's something that's hard to enjoy if you're sitting there all tense saying "When is my life going to change!?" every five seconds.

above average, with more western appeal than most anime. i feel like the character driven stuff is fine for what it is, but i found a majority of the characters hashed together and uninteresting. runs like a ps1 jrpg where people announce their own intentions and past or have contrived reasoning for it becoming exposed in the show. basically a gay anime. i assumed the creator was gay, and i'll kind of just assume that forever and never correct it. overall the shows a 7/10, like another user said "characters on a journey" is done better in champloo. shows slow as fuck for episodic.

That explains why i didnt like bebop but loved champloo

it doesnt really get good it just looks good and has comfy music

From episode 1 you should know there's nothing else like it out there.

He just wants to talk about guns in CB.

Around episode 2, when you notice it's actually a unpretentious hijinks show.

it liked all of it except for the finale ngl

VICIOUS DIES!

is there a word filter on marathon

>I'm currently blitzkrieging
and that's is your problem

/Thread

I guess that also means Evangelion is also overrated going by the opinions in these threads. Zoomers have zero tastes.

Bebop is shit

Eva is straight up hack shit admitted by Ano himself. Debating this is moot

JET LIVES!

>Why did they pick up that kid, Edward?
You've already stated that you're speedwatching, but they don't have a choice.
Ed just hacked the Bebop and brought it to herself.

But you literally posted the exact moment

it doesnt

I loved it by the end of the first episode. Maybe it's not for you. Also, I'm sick of seeing these threads trying to make Bebop look bad. There's nothing wrong with disinterest, but there's a reason why this show is celebrated 20 years later.

Fuck you OP and the people who do this shit. "hurr when does it get good XD"

ED LEAVES!

>but they don't have a choice.
Sure, from the characters pov. But the question was probably more aimed toward the writer. Why write Ed into this show if Ed ends up doing nothing at all?

The main storyline of Bebop isn't really that good; it is the friends we made along the way.

>the friends we made along the way
you mean like Ed who just ends up as neet on a spaceship?

FAYE LIVES!

Seething shitbop cuck

>not appreciating the sheer AESTHETIC of the background art, the mood, the music, the quiet moments punctuated by well animated action

Wow this post is a mess. As expected of a pseudo intellectual

It gets better as you get older and you understand a lot of situations and dialogue first hand. It's meant to be entertaining for people who likes movies like No Country for Old Men and alike not your average Naruto/One piece audience which it's OK to like but people has different tastes.

cowboy bebop is absolutely nothing like No Country for Old Men

Imagine being so much of a brainlet you can't understand a 3 words sentence.

Not saying that cowboy bebop it's like that movie, I'm saying that some people might find it slow but it's a really good movie you need to actually take your time to understand and enjoy, same with Bebop.

Imagine stringing together buzzwords and think that is an insult

I´d give it a 7.5/10.

it wont for you. some of the best episodes happen before ep 17 so if you already disliked the anime, dont even bother for the rest.
