I loved it and really don't understand why everyone calls it pretentious. The story is really simple, it just takes a while to get going so a lot of people drop it because they want more exposition.

NGE, because most people delude themselves that it is littered with allegories and visual language, when most things that you hear or see have no thematic relevance whatsoever. The sound directing is so laughably bad it brings me to tears.

A girl struggles with her identity as the internet merges with the real world. That's it plotwise.
It is a good show but mostly for the great atmosphere and aestethic. You may find the struggle the character goes through compelling but only so far as you find her interesting and relatable, and admittedly she can come off as pretty dull.

But Lain is much more about specific ideas or concepts than Texhnolyze. I always thought the latter's strongest characteristic was less about the story itself, and more about the prevailing atmosphere of dread that pervades the whole show.

There's only going to be 3 as far as I know. Pretty sure there were recent photos of Tomino working on them too. I don't know why you would think Sunrise wouldn't be working on summary movie cashgrabs. Though Tomino says he's happy to be working on them and wants to fix some of the issues the series had.

I didn't expect for them to actually happen given how poorly G-Reco performed by Gundam standards. At least IBO somehow managed to get the fans to buy copious amounts of Gunpla and meme Orga to Top3 on the alltime character rankings. But the response to G-Reco seemed pretty dry, so I wouldn't have expected for Sunrise to even think that there's any actual money to be made. Hence I expected the project to be on indefinite hold.

I'd say "fascinating" describes it best. The plot and storytelling itself isn't hard to follow, but it is pretty hard to actually understand and probably requires rewatches. I kept it at one watch but I still think about the show every now and then
