I'll post a summary of the first chapter
>Meng jui ge is just some dude who proclaims he has nine lives as a kid, Jiǔ is the chinese character for the number 9. Later in life he encounters a homeless man who cliams to know all about him and the future. He gives chase after the man steals an old ladies purse until he ends up under and bridge where he see's the nine lives symbol. The old man's killed by a car before he can spill the beans. Back at home he searches for references to the symbol, he finds a book but doesn't remember when he first bought it. Reading the first page he encounters a cryptic message on the books contents.

>hearing his doorbell ring, he opens the door and is greeted by two masked figures that knock him out. He awakens to when doves cry by prince because reasons. The two seem to hint that he should know who they are and that "he's the guy" who can stop them somehow. Time's up, they shoot him and the city explodes. We are then shown flashes of pole dancers (his sister? wife?) and him having an out of body experience. Who are the masked figures and why have these events happened are unclear at this point. His memories enter the prisoners head in the second chapter after he sees the symbol
