Nah, the detail can be extensive but the manga uses its shading and level of detail very well to invoke atmosphere and emotion. Color isn't necessary to get anything out of the world that it doesn't already do in black and white.

The difference is that the WHA artist knows that there needs to be a balance between areas of high detail and low detail. In the middle panel of this page there's a lot of detail in the sky and hills, letting the less-detailed castle stand out better. It's all about contrast, and the lack of contrast is why something like is hard to read visually

Have some standards, he didn't convey the sense of bigness he intended, the designs are way too simple, you can argue that the lack of focus is inviting viewers to explore the image but it falls flat as a cheap attempt to do so, and in the end that's just an excuse for it's messines. Of course you can value the time and effort put into making this but that alone doesn't make it good.
