The Madoka characters are not even that interesting, especially when we compare to the girls of Hidamarisou. If they had more screentime (seriously, Madoka feels very short even for a 12 episode anime), more people would perceive this.

I don't wanna get pretentious, but there's no other way if I want to be precise. This was the series that knocked ＷＩＤＥ open my intuition while I was struggling with the nature of impermanence, duty, and their relationship to beauty. Inspired simplicity, of which Hidamari is a perfect example, has a way of cutting through your own internal prevarication and deceit if you allow it. I wouldn't say it was directly causative to my attaining some semblance of felicity, but it was a friend pushing me in the right direction. I think lots of anons who fall in love with SoL in general are also struggling with these same issues and their closing in and falling away from some sort of epiphany are some of what you see in these threads, in the form of wistfulness, daydreaming, and almost worshipful behavior.
