Yes, this is the last episode. Thank you for watching.

Impregnated her just once and didn't give her a cute daughteru.

Took 8 years to get waifu preggo

Nigga, do you not see the lip-gloss they're wearing?

This scene is arguably the reason why cat won

Is Cat the alpha Chad of this series?

damn takaya baited hard yuki x tohru at the beginning of the series

What a stupid game.

Why did they neuter his sass in the reboot

Attached: huh.webm (1280x720, 167K)

You might be gay

Jealousy over Tohru getting to live with two hot guys, you heard the way he called Yuki and Kyo hot, her cousin is an in the closet faggot.

How many and which chapters did they adapt?

Neuter him how?

If you mean by getting rid of all his pervy jokes, that was only exclusive to the 2001 anime and was one of the things Takaya hated most about it. Shigure in the manga ain't no pedo and is actually quite a bit serious.

Attached: fb-100-1.jpg (638x976, 314K)

It has all the rights to be this good and comfy if it keeps the quality it's gonna be the best remake ever made and easily aoty

>being attracted to a fine lady voiced by a woman is gay
It is, if you are a little girl.

Repent, sinner

One example is the food reheating scene with Kyo, not necessarily just the dirty old man jokes.

Do her cousins have any role in the story after this?

Yes.

Yamato 2199

So this is what gay people actually think. Interesting.

Naoko should honestly sell the rights to TMS studio if this remake is any indication.

I don't think trap lovers are the gay ones here user.

Its quite simple, one looks completely like a girl the other like a man.

If you're attracted on sight to the latter but not the former than you're probably homo.

Meanwhile plenty a man has been proved by a convincing trap, its perfectly for any straight guy to be attracted to them.

Oh yeah forgot about that one

I'm the rice ball too.

Your waifu a shit!

daddy shigure!

How could she look to him as a daddy replacement when he's so close to her age?

Would Shigure/Akito count as a daughter-waifu type ship?

How did he manage to get away with this?

If only Akira could've lived and seen what Shigure's intentions were for his daughter then maybe we could've seen him beat the shit out of him.

Attached: Akira_sohma-fruits_basket.jpg (221x247, 10K)

Boy they're going fucking slow with this. Not that I dislike an expanded adaptation, but if they're going to cover the whole story it's going to take forever.

Damn it all, Yea Forums, I don't think I'm prepared for all an entire feels trip later in the anime.

based grampa should be the mascot for all future fruits basket threads.
I think they planned something like 50 episodes

I don't even mind, let them take their time, Fruits Basket is something that needs to be properly experienced.

It's 136 chapters, it should be at least 130+ episodes long

75

Shigure did literally nothing wrong

this
daddy is perfect

Kyo, they have 3 kids together. Yuki ends up with this girl Machi who got kicked out of her family home because her parents thought she was trying to kill her baby brother

It's going to be two seasons at least and at this point we're doing a chapter an episode. I'm perfectly OK with it.

I honestly love Thoru's grandpa. We need more of him. But this version did this episode way better than the manga and the original anime did it. IT was an honest improvement.

It would have killed his sickly ass anyways. Akira ain't beating the shit out of no one.

Do you think he would have approved of Dog for his precious daughterfu?

Attached: Akito_and_father.png (240x254, 30K)

Dog is the Alpha Chad of Fruits Basket

Seeing how his wife is pretty shitty, yeah probably.

This loli loves older men.

Attached: doggy's waifu.png (500x500, 165K)

if shigure fucked someone while in dog form would that be bestiality

It's going to be around 39-48 episodes, screencap this.

I can't watch it yet, What did they change?

Dog is the biggest cuck in the series

Literally gets cucked by Beta Rooster

Attached: fruits-basket-459708.jpg (800x1307, 117K)

I have been wondering this since I was 11 and watched the series for the first time.

>Everyone ends up in a straight ship
>All the trannies go back to their birth genders
>Tons of older men/younger women age gap ships
>Has a loli lust over older man dick only

Is Takaya from /pol/?

All this manga needed was some shitting on blacks and Jews and it would've been completely based and rightwingpilled

No wonder I like this so much. This remake made anime great again.

also how does it work with trannies
is the transformation based on whether they have a dick/vagina, on chromosomes, on whether they are attracted to the zodiac person...?

the monster

Fruits Basket is Trump Approved

RItsu literally transforms as soon as he hugs Tohru, basically confirming that the curse BTFO trannies "identities" and only cares about biological reality.

Based.

hm
that means that the optimum relationship for a zodiac is homosexual, since its the most normal they can have

Oh boy, tumblr and twitter are going to have a field day with this series now that its in the limelight again kek

Tell me Yea Forums, if women are supposed to be the more progressive gender, why does shojo tend to be so right-winged, even more-so than your average harem or seinen series?

I mean just look at Usagi Drop

because Japanese women probably act the same as the West but seem to on some level want a more traditional marriage etc.
so in women-dominated series it comes out

if cat had kidnapped the cousin too it would have been the best remake

I only watched the original but I don't think we ever see them again. Or gramps for that matter.

I think gramps does show up at some point again in the manga
the original anime was only part of the manga and deviated in parts too

Reminder to the lolicon degenerates that this isn't an age gap ship

Attached: pic.png (256x368, 63K)

I see constant shitting on Shigure on every fruits basket thread, why? What did he do?

>ratboy turns everyone gay

He's a literal motherfucker

No really, I was about to bust a vein in my head if best grandpa did not intervene.

wow you want some cookie?

this episode is the FIRST one... that i maayyyybe prefer over the 2001 ver....

But you can NOT beat how in the 2001ver, that legendary opening song came on at the end along with Toru tearing up and Kyo being there. damn.

Why keep citing this awful adaptation?

The Japanese Cold is the most dead disease known to mankind.

For Fruits Basket is one of the best anime openings of all time. that song is probably was the original anime has over this one so far. I suspect that I am going to like this one more because the episode I disliked the most from the 2001 anime was the episode that was done today and this time it was much stronger.

>Ever liking the 2001 version

Outside of the OST its complete shit and the mangaka agrees that's why we even needed this reboot in the first place. It butchered not only the story but several characters motivations and personalities as well.

Daichi a hack!

> Ayame/Mine - OK Pairing
Honestly, that was the worst one for me. Ayame should have been left single so he could be your fabulous unmarried uncle to the other character's crotch dumplings.

The Best Pairing That Ended up Not Happening:
- Kazuma/Saki

Ritsu is shown in women's clothing when they talk about the curse being broken and Akito is only like 3-4 years younger then Shigure, I couldn't call that Loli Lusting over older man dick. And Akito fucks Kureno so she has her own agency in a sexual relationship and control over someone.

The only actual loli lusting after anyone is Kisa for Hiro but that wasn't lust it was just a sweet childish relationship.

It's why there should have been some kind of same-sex pairing. Like IDK pair off Haru with Ayame.

Also since Akito and God if she were to hug a cursed male would they transform?

Attached: d9d777257d5ee6b5be48601b5633fdba.png (500x327, 103K)

One has a penis and one has a vagina. If you have a penis and you like the one with the penis you're gay.

Secondary sex characteristics matter too not just genitals and with traps you never even know what's exactly under there, that's the point of them.

i don't know if you western fags grew up with english dub or some shit but the original japanese voice actors are far superiour.
i love Nakamura Yuiichi but he really doesn't suite the tone of Sigure that okiyayu ryotaro did.
both new Kyo and Yuki are good enough but seki tomokazu is seki tomokazu. you can't beat his acting

The new Yuki is a dramatic improvement, OG UK sounded too girly, it's like the actress playing him wasn't even trying to make herself sound more masculine.

They are unpleasent people

But man this was a great episode

So female cats can have mixed litters from multiple male cats... that's not happening here is it?

and i read in the 5ch thread that after the Drama CD, when anime was set to be made, the director wanted other Kyo because he'd thought Seki was too much of an idol (Weiß Kreuz) but the writer insisted on Seki to be continued to be kyo,

>Also since Akito and God if she were to hug a cursed male would they transform?

You haven't read the manga in a while have you? As the God of the Zodiac Akito can embrace any male member freely she's seen multiple times hugging the male Zodiac.

No character development

She was shit at being a reverse trap anyways, amazing that the fandom was so shocked at her reveal, Haruhi Fujioka was more convincing.

Akito always acted like just a typical woman.

Redpill me on why Dog is such a controversial character and what exactly is it that makes him so evil?

Cause so far he seems like just a really chill guy

Attached: Shigure Sohma.jpg (250x141, 7K)

True chad

Wasn't his motivation just to break the curse? How is that a bad thing?

He's evil by tumblr standards, not actually evil. He does fuck Akito's mom because he was a jealous manchild though, that's the worst thing he did.

Without him, Yuki, Kyo and Tohru wouldn't have a healthy house to live their high school years, since he's a pretty chill guardian overall.

Why does tumblr find him evil, just because of the motherfucking?

First time watching but desu I'm surprised Kyo wins the bowl. Yuki seems to be pretty infatuated with Tohru.

His methods are not very orthodox, but he never hurt anyone directly if anything (his waifu did though, a bunch of times).
He wanted to break the curse because of his obsession with his waifu, dog's loyalty is too stronk.

Yuki doesn't need somebody with a savior complex

So he's literally just a waifufag?

When's Torus emo friend episode?

Actually it was exactly what he needed, he just couldn't see her as anything else

Next episode

Yeah.

What was his plan if Tohru actually left or hell, if Tohru never came into their lives at all?

That's soon. Time for the best episode.

>Chad
>Is the only man in the series to get literally cucked
>By a complete beta male yet

Yeah it has been a while since I last read the manga, thanks.

N word. Reported

Wait we're not allowed to say the N word anymore outside of /pol/? When did this happen?

Also I'm literally black

Oh man I remember reading this in the manga. Go gramps

How old do you all think Akito is? She's in her early to mid twenties so literally like 3-5 years younger then Shigure, which is normal by that age.

Same. But the girl he ends up with is fine. she is prone to violent outbursts which makes me think he may have a complex due to Akito's behavior towards him, but Maki's never violent towards people. Her cousin and his girlfriend are top tier though. Like if you want just a taste of them pic related.

>People relishing on a story that came out almost 20 years ago

newfags...

I reread the manga this week and it's funny how early the dynamic of the various relationships started really early on.
Yuki seeing Tohru as a mother figure is pretty obvious even by the second/third volume and Tohru naturally drifting toward Kyou is developed pretty well.
it's pretty consistent.

Tohru never cries or talk about her problems in front of Yuki for example, kisa's introduction is pretty telling as well with him thinking he and kisa are looking for something similar.

She's too young for him, that's all I know

Attached: 73129561_p0_master1200.jpg (1181x945, 417K)

Kyo is also from her childhood. So the childhood friend wins this time around.

Hatori and Mayu are pretty happy and their kid is gorgeous.
Shippers are fucking delusional.

Attached: sleepy kinu.png (1080x1512, 1.22M)

From chapter 30 on its apparent that Kyo is winning.

Yuki is more of a childhood friend, she never talked with Kyou as a kid

Kyo never meets Tohru when they're children

How was he cucked? I completely forget the story. Was it some memory loss shit?

Attached: x7 (3).jpg (818x1200, 205K)

Akito slept with rooster

What the fuck dude

The plot is just so convoluted

Wen Snek?

>says shipperfag is delusional when Akito and Shigure are literally shippingfaggotry: The Ship

Just because it’s canon doesn’t mean it’s good. Compared to Kyo/Tohru or Haru/Rin their relationship didn’t get any development or help develop them as individuals, it was literally put in there just for shipping bait.

Their sense of distance is really telling even early on
It's hard to believe people were shiiping yuki and tohru in the later volumes before the bomb dropped

Attached: 09_148.jpg (880x1400, 277K)

Jesus Christ, this was a 10/10 episode. I enjoyed it so much that had to rewatch the whole thing again.
Something to note is that I don't remember any of these scene from the original anime. I really loved this episode.

Did nobody care in the 80s?

Attached: x3 (2).png (724x1200, 108K)

The part where Yuki and Kyo are watching from the outside wasn't from the manga. That's the kind of anime additions I like. Originally they just sort of pop up in there

>So pathetic he dumps the woman his own age who's eager and willing
She only started dating him because she was feeling lonely and Shigure is one of Hatori's best friends.
She broke up with him herself and Shigure pushed her for the guy she truly loved, so everyone won.

It's worse than things like that. She obsessively connects everything right to the end

It’s Japan a country based on traditional values where women over 25 are considered Christmas Cakes

This is what family values looks like to them because they’re not libcucked like the West

Also notice how they’re homogenous society and none of their media shoves forced “diversity” down everyone’s throat like Western media does.

A stronk independent 30 something black single mother taking a poor chump for a ride is something only valued in Western libtard media

This chapter is extremely telling and it was only in volume 8
Tohru tries to talk to Yuki about what is troubling her but stop

Attached: 08_117.jpg (880x1400, 287K)

and then proceeds to have a cute heart to heart with Kyou instead

I remember people complaining it came out of nowhere but the foreshadowing is really impressive on a reread

Attached: 08_128.jpg (880x1400, 238K)

So why did he even start dating her to begin with if he never intended to fuck her?

Yet japan makes more progressive and inclusive things than most murrikan media.

Also, get the fuck out /pol/

It's easier to pick up on little things knowing she ends up with Cat.

i mean i expected a kyou ending since volume 1. Yuki is just such an archetypal Guy B.

Most of the things from the end series were foreshadowed before, sadly most people don't bother to reread it and end up shitting the threads with fanwank.

This is a /pol/ series though

I'm a little sad they updated the the ugly wardrobe.

To pass time, literally. He never ever bothered to kiss/fuck her, they probably just spent time talking or fooling together with the rest of the group (aka Ayame, Hatori and Kana)

>Yet japan makes more progressive and inclusive things than most murrikan media.

Not really, there's very little POC featured in anime and manga.

Sure Japan has yaoi and yuri but both of those are treated as just fetishes for straight men and women to consume rather than a civil rights issue.

So far the only really progressive anime I've seen come out of Japan as been that new Carole and Tuesday but that's literally it.

>Woman literally throws herself at him
>Doesn't take the opportunity

kek, he really is a beta cuck!

What guy wouldn't fuck a ready and willing woman?

There's literally a manga series for everything; disabled, mute, deaf, autism, POC, trans, etc etc. I am not mentioning anime for degenerage otaku like their oreimo shit. Way better than american comics/series with their forced diversity by the same 10 twats in the entire industry.

>POC manga

Never heard of or seen one.

Blacks aren’t favored too kindly over there

I am not going to spoonfeed newfags from /pol/ but here's an example

Attached: Blues01 - (029) copia.jpg (804x768, 236K)

She was too old for him, he’s into young, fresh meat

>Meet "God"
>"God" is abusive, has a traumatic complex about gender, and is obsessed with imprisoning the rebellious member of the family

Stealth fedora tipping anti-theism in this one

It's not a "progressive" thing. Japanese society is extremely homogeneous so as a result they don't have this existential anxiety over identity politics the way Americans do, with their multi-ethnic immigrant society. This is sort of liberating for Japanese artists, they can make stories and visual works about gays or other races and not have all this cultural baggage and guilt they feel obligated to tote along and which makes any American venture into these topics excruciatingly tedious and preachy.

Of course, Japan has its own bugbears and taboos, mostly related to the second World War. Notice the severe dearth of anime and manga that deal with Imperial Japan's wartime activities? Even if they do use the setting they're usually circumspect about the actual war. The only manga I've really read that doesn't skirt around things and deals directly with the Imperial Army was Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths which is basically babby's first literary manga.

What is with Japan and their complete hateboner for religion?

This is a common plot in JRPGs as well

In the original anime he makes several jokes that are probably not really jokes about wanting to fuck teenagers

Afro Samurai, Bobobobobo (or whatever it's called), etc. want a word.

There's also a manga about a black weeaboo who lives in Japan and has to deal with racism from his Japanese friends but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

I’ve mostly seen only his manga self get hate though and he’s not a pedo there

In Japan people ask gods for favors but they don't have the same kind of automatically revered status as "God" in Judeo-Christian, Islamic, and Hindu cultures. Praying to kami is seen as more like a business transaction, so Japanese culture can be much edgier about divinities without consequence.

What things were foreshadowed other than Cat winning?

It's more that Christianity is till pretty exotic to them, and when it first arrived they probably found the idea of a single omnipotent god that controls everything to be presumptuous. Japan is the land of 8 million kami, there's gods in every rock and stream, in household objects, some of them are powerful, fearsome deities, but they don't demand exclusive worship and the renouncement of all other gods. The way the priests described him (and remember these were Catholic priests from the 16th century) probably made him sound like a petty, insecure tyrant, and that image has stuck in the Japanese consciousness for centuries.

What a greasy fuck. Somebody needs to punch him.

Gods are generally due respect in Japan, but it's a far step down from total, unconditional reverence and devotion that Christianity expects. Early Christian missionaries actually had a hard time getting genuine conversions out of the Japanese. They'd seemingly "convert" an entire province only to find out their congregation was still visiting Shinto shrines to pray to kami or get charms or going to Buddhist temples for funerals and weddings. It baffled them because they didn't understand the Japanese mindset toward gods, where the Christian god was just one more god among the millions already in Japan. They weren't being hypocrites, they didn't see it as "tricking" the priests, they genuinely were honoring God the best way they knew how. It just wasn't the way priests understood worship.

>The cap
>Tohru's discomfort when the subject is her father
>Yuki's inability to see Tohru in a romantic light (he even tries)
>Kyo's weird reactions whenever Kyoko was mentioned
>Shigure's obsession with Akito
>Akito's gender (some things are easier to pick up if you're japanese)
>Kakeru's awkwardness around Tohru

On the top of my head these come to mind

>Almost all the people outside of the main cast and main secondary cast are genuine scumbags
I forgot how 90s/early 2000s this felt.

It's kinda refreshing. Lots of shows like this these days seem to be built around feel good nice ensemble casts with only one real bad apple or at most a small group that are obvious outliers.

In taking on a male role, Akito behaves as a woman abused by male family and authority figures would expect men to act.

In doing so, Akito takes on the role of a gothic villain comparable to Walpole's Manfred. In this genre archetype, the male villain inverts the male gaze by representing an omnipotent, and violently predatory, male presence, seen through the eyes of an entrapped victim, typically female and with a male savior.

In this case, the genders are inverted. Kyo takes on the role of a male counterpart to the gothic heroine, threatened with lifelong entrapment by Akito, who has taken on an emotionally unstable, archetypically male role, as a result of past traumatic abuse. In thiss, Tohru represents a female counterpart to the "knight in shining armor" archetype found in such a genre, who must liberate and confront the heroine-victim from the villain's clutches. As with the archetypal knight in shining armor hero, Tohru remains something of a cipher, primarily a device to establish a promise of liberation by a more benevolent and unassuming presence while the gothic heroine (Kyo) is left to explore their own troubled thoughts under the shadow of the villain's presence, here established as masculine although projected by a female character.

We can thus conclude that Fruits Basket maintains the basic plot structure of the gothic novel, consciously noting the genre's conception of a predatory, toxic masculinity as an overarching presence - an archetype consciously created by Akito, a character who imitates her own conceptions of masculinity informed by psychological trauma.

>Shigure’s obsession with Akito

No that only surfaced once her gender was revealed.

Because Takaya wanted to hashtag-NoHomo the series

Not really. By all accounts Christianity grew fairly rapidly as the missionaries actually adopted both Japanese methods of preaching and a number of their customs. It was cracked down however later on due to a Christian revolt and Christianity being seen as a threat by e.g. Tokugawa Ieyasu to ther power. Notably here only the very basics of Christianity (e.g. creation and crucifixion and such) had been taught due to how many tried to convert- not enough priests.

"Hidden Christians" who survived the persecutions then tended to syncretize their beliefs with Shinto and Buddhist beliefs - this influence likely plays a role in how many animes nuns for instance are sometimes basically just rebranded Mikos and how Catholic/Christian priests are more or less just Shinto priests that wear a cross- the syncretism of these are probably more known than the fire and brimstone, honestly.

The reference to Akito being god is arguably a mistranslation meant to make the story more understandable to Westerners- the figure being referred to is the one who called the banquet in the actual Zodiac story: the Jade Emperor, who was the traditional Chinese "first god"- not meaning sole god or omnipotent god however.

I suspect the Christianity thing does play a certain role however: the Chinese belief system had the Jade Emperor play a key role in creation. The Japanese author, not knowing much about Christianity, therefore likely identified the figure of Jade Emperor with our God due to that. I guess in a way its similar to how Romans understood foreign gods as different names for their own.

>Akito behaves as a woman abused by male family and authority figures would expect men to act.

She was abused by a woman though, her own mother her father didn't want to raise her as a boy and just went along with it so that she wouldn't get aborted

>Akito
>Villain
No it was actually Ren all along, she made a bet with Akito that the Zodiac will eventually betray her and if they do she'd have to bow and give up the Sohma to her, Akito was acting the way she did out of desperation over being thrown out.

Incidentally, Ren's true villain reveal coincides with Akito's gender reveal, they were meant to be the two big plot twists of the series as Takaya took a nu-Disney approach and made Akito a red herring villain in the beginning while Ren was the true "twist villain."

>Yuki's inability to see Tohru in a romantic light (he even tries)
Wait he doesnt see her romantically granted this is my first time with the series but it seems romantic. If that's not the case I'm sure it'll become clearer later.

Shigure and Hatori used very gender neutral pronouns while talking about her.

Some other small noticeable things:
-Compared to other male characters Akito had noticeable lashes, big nails etc. -In book 13 or 14 (I don't remember very clearly) Tohru is almost caught by Ren at the Sohma garden and shits herself because she thought it was Akito (voiced sounded just like hers) but turns out it a "random" lady (who happens to be Akito's mother)

No, Christianity is kept at bay by the gov with propaganda and other nations.
The Tokugawa shogunate killed Christians because they feared their loyalty to Jesus and God while the firebombing and nukes in ww2 targeted the most populace pro Christian places.

That fade in to the ED every episode with the piano gets me every time. What a comfy ED.

There is bait to feed readers, but once you're presented to people who actually have romantic interest towards Tohru it's easy to notice how the Yuki/Tohru dynamic is not pointing to that.

I like the first adaption's take on this episode, should have focused more on how lonely she felt without them and highlight how different their relationship would have become. The scene with the weird uncle was nice, always felt like he was a perv who would have snuck into tohru's room at night to lick the sweat off her in her sleep.

>If that's not the case I'm sure it'll become clearer later.
Stop now while you're ahead

>Stop now while you're ahead
So it doesnt become clear? Well I now know that its not romantic so I wont be mistaking it for such.

Every shoujo since 2005 has ripped it off Tohru's dtf emotional-slut personality.

It doesn't just become clear he straight up says he sees her like a mom which killed my boner for the ship, don't be like me and steer clear

I guess you're focusing on the emotional slut part, but really I was surprised when I branched out to other shoujo just how much more sexual they usually are. Fruits basket eventually has its share of sexual situations, but they're a lot less common and a lot more in the background of the story that some others I've seen.

There's usually not much penetration but its sure as hell more satisfying than a shounen romcom that has 0. I like it when couples behave like people with normal sex drives not bottlenecked by sperging.

Shonen romances tend to be comedies since they're aimed at boys who don't really take relationships seriously.

Also they're written by people who have most certainly never been in a relationship.

Ohhh okay. Gotcha. I'm still surprised it goes that way but i like Kyo and Yuki. Seems like overall people didn't like that development?

Not really, Kyo/Tohru is pretty well established and liked. The ones who still sperg about non canon ships are stuck in 2004 or something.

Ah okay good to know. I do prefer the Kyo and Tohru pairing so good to know it goes that way. Glad Yuki finds some happiness as well.

You find out Yuki's love for Tohru was never romantic. What kind of love it is, well, you'll have to watch and find out.

What are these things?
Ive seen them a lot but never figured it out.

I want a daughter like Tohru so badly, but I fear what she may become if she attends public schooling in a diverse population.

She'll become a slut Stacy or a bullied to death type of girl in private schools. Pick your american only poison.

I wouldn't want a daughter like Tohru, though. Tohru would get bullied to hell in public schools; she was lucky to find a group of friends to look out for her, but that rarely happens.

No, the optimum is incest with your fellow cursed cousin of the opposition gender, as depicted by four (and a half) ships in the manga.

>Kakeru/His gf
Was it just the bad Translation, or why did it seem totally deranged that Kakeru hated Tohru and also blamed her mother for the lethal accident? Kyoko was literally just standing at a traffic light.

Silly, Kyoko. Tohru is pure waifu material.

What is an emotional-slut?

I still don't know how Mikan didn't have people falling in love with her left and right.

So should a boomer like myself watch this re-make?

Does it have anything that beats "What comes after the snow melt" ?

I'm a literal Boomer (I'm 60, was 39 when the manga started) and love this remake.

Alrright I'll take a look then. I still have the preview music from the original anime (think the track was called Fruits Basket in Waltz) downloaded and its on my phone after all this years.

The manga you are thinking of is Peepo-chu, it was written by an Argentinian.

Watching this new adaptation of Fruits basket after years after having read the manga, it makes me really see how the first anime adaptation wasn't really that good, the original anime didn't balance the comedy and drama as effectively.
I also remember that those scenes with the hat weren't in the original anime.

I liked how this episode did the dual perspective thing.

Jesus christ almighty Tohru is gorgeous .

Old of curiosity, why are you on Yea Forums's anime board?

Serenade and For fruits basket still make me cry. RIP Ritsuko Okazaki

I remember like 4 scenes of the original anime

You forgot about Ritsu/Shigure's editor
Just imagine how neurotic that kid is going to be

I really like Sora-iro which I think didn't actually play in the anime but was included in the disk. The new anime ED sounds nice but if you understand any Japanese it's pretty clear it doesn't have much meaning to it other than repeating cliche phrases, while Ritsuko's songs for furuba all had the same "hang it there" theme that always keep me coming back to them when I'm feeling down.

No, he was supposed to come off as deranged in that scene. His girlfriend lost her shit on him when he told her what he did and he wasn't able to understand why since his upbringing had completely broken him emotionally.

>its your fault for not being born a few years earlier

Fun curiosity:
The "let's stay together itsumo(aka forever)" part could refer to the Sohma bind which is basically a curse for everyone. The Juunishi don't need to stay together forever anymore, they need their own lifes.

>his

Everybody uses gender neutral when referring to Akito. Akito mannerisms are feminine when she is not aware of it. She also stopped growing and Yuki and Kyo quickly outgrown her

For Fruits Basket is perfect. I really hope they use it as an insert song in the New Year's episode

>old
The Freudian slip!

She gets over it as the series goes, but she once saw him as "villain" who wanted to take mother with him (will be elaborated better later on too), not to mention 99% of his family fucking hated Kyoko and treated her like dirt, once he died they thought she commited adultery because Tohru "didn't look like him" so she started imitating some of his mannerisms to make herself feel less insecure (and to comfort her mom)

Everybody thought she was a bastard, so Tohru tried to act like him a little although she secretly resents her father for almost taking her mother away from her.

I see! Thanks for explaining.

It felt like the camera focused on this girl a lot. But her name isn't Souma so I doubt she's going to show up again.

They probably wanted the viewers to pay attention behind her. You can see Kyo and Yuki there even before the POV shift.

>didn't notice it
I blame them for making her face to cute

too*

It's honne, user.

Imagine this Tohru voice by Horie Yui

shes so cute, that scene made me sad and angry because I really like her

I'm expecting it turns out way better than both versions at the very end of the last season.

I wish I had dog's nose to enjoy Tohru's invisible scents all day

The manga version wrapped things too quickly with Yuki and Kyo coming out of nowhere with no explanation on how they stole the adress from Shigure. The 2001 version spent 10 minutes of Shigure making fun of the guys because they didn't stop Tohru (and tons of "comedy" with him sniffing her towel, what the heck) and once more no explanation on how Kyo and Yuki got Tohru's address.

This episode was perfect because the characters remained true to their original selves and connected the missing dots from the manga.

Attached: what the fuck deen.png (1427x1074, 852K)

new toru's voice really doesn't suit the chracter.
Horie Yui's Toru sounds almost too pure to a slight mental retardation which is perfect
new Toru sounds like she knows her stuff and is just kind and nice.
that is not enough. toru needs to sound a little bit challenged. that innocence

How weird is it that Tohru fell in love with Kyou because he resembles her mom?

I didn't like Horie because she made no effort in trying to sound different from other characters she voiced back then. I'm not happy at all with Iwami's high pitched voice either in this remake, but she makes Tohru's sweetness sounds natural.

Did anyone solely watch the 2001 anime dubbed (and preferred it) as a young person but can't watch this one dubbed (despite the most important characters having the same voice actors)? I tried watching the first episode in english but it was way too weird and unfitting.

VERY.

>new Toru sounds like she knows her stuff and is just kind and nice.
Well that's exactly what Tohru is.
She's been through a lot of shit. She lived in a TENT.

>I tried watching [...] in english but it was way too weird and unfitting.
That's every single anime, not only FB.

yeah I agree but I was expecting to be hit with nostalgia and not cringe.

I feel like you might appreciate the drama more now, as an experience connoisseur of Yea Forums media, considering how it's not nearly as infuriating as the base level of drama in most anime series, much less shoujo specifically.

>the anime won't become ass ugly looking after a certain point like the manga eventually did
I'd take the early noodle/big eyed shoujo looking designs over what the mangaka's art evolved to

Yeah but all the little things the first half has is completely gone when we go beyond volume 12 or so.
I remember the shoujo drama was mixed with humor and loveable character moments, only to devolve into abuse stories.
But I really want to see Yuki getting into the student council so badly (was it the student council or a club? can't remember)

it'd probably maintain the level of quality that this already has
they changed the designs to reflect the late art of the manga, but not shitty

thank god for that

There were always something special in her songs that make me also come back. That hum at the start of For Fruits Basket gives me goosebumps and calms my soul at the same time.
Man, I really wish Ritsuko Okazaki was still alive and making songs. I miss her so badly.

those are the most early 00s pants ever

wow.. i never read manga but what even is that?

I pretty sure the mangaka broke the wrist of her drawing hand partway through and it fucked everything up

Mangaka had a hand surgery during the second half of the run.
But the art was never really any good to be honest.

she also never knew anything about anatomy and proportions

that's true but at least the characters looked somewhat attractive early on. they became all wide/fat looking and the guys got harder to tell apart from what I remember

>was it the student council or a club?
It was the Student Council. And I was just about to bring up the comedy in that group in relation to that. I recently reread the manga, though honestly I couldn't tell you much about it specifically. I'm not good at retaining my emotional memories about things. I didn't find the shift terribly jarring, though. I enjoyed the whole thing throughout.

It's not my favorite manga, probably not even my favorite shoujo. But I do appreciate it a lot for what it does, and doesn't, do.
