I can't see someone that read FSN and then watches FZ think the latter is great.
It not only downgrades the reoccurring characters. But the things you hear about the 4th holy grail war in FSN sounds a lot more interesting than what we saw. Especially Kiritsugu and his interaction with Kirei.
Watching it made it feel a lot more inconsequential and almost pointless. I believe that it is a story better left untold.

The thing about Kotomine is that he truly is a devout man of the cloth, and genuinely believes in the teachings of the Catholic Church. His lifestyle and his ways truly do adhere to the teachings. The problem is he also enjoys seeing people suffer. He can't help himself. He's only happy when those around him are in pain.

To be fair, he turbofucked Kerry almost immediately after the fight started. He wouldn't have even been able to speed up enough to keep up had he not had Avalon, which was the whole reason he got back up to begin with. He's "keeping up" in that he's mostly just running away for most of the fight. And Kirei kicked all kinds of ass in Zero. He had Kerry dead to rights for the majority of their fight.

The concept does exist, but only as a 2nd party description of something. It‘s not an actual trait that people can have. People can be sadistic, selfish, greedy etc. and their actions (and so they as a person) can be perceived as evil.
